  1. Review titled The Journey Ahead

Rated 5 stars out of 5

by Anonymous - Posted on 04 June 2024

I posted a review on the 11th March about my first experience at attending Wythenshawe Hospital, as someone on the autism spectrum, and I wanted to follow up on my recent experiences. All I can say, is thank you, your hospital has been superb, caring, efficient, and so informative every step of the way of my ongoing journey. I was lucky, perhaps that is not the right word to use, to meet a surgeon who agreed to remove my gallbladder regardless of my BMI, my own local hospital made excuses. Blood tests and scans followed, sadly the scan showed up something unexpected elsewhere, and so I have had further scans, tests, and an appointment with the Rapid Lung Diagnostic Clinic Team and this is ongoing with further tests planned until we get a definite diagnosis. It is a scary time, but had I not got my appointment back in March at Wythenshawe Hospital to begin this journey, who knows what might have happened for me. For now, I am happy and feeling optimistic that being cared for by staff at Wythenshawe Hospital has helped me immensely, from the admin staff, HCA’s, Nurses, Consultants, and the Macmillan Team both in the clinic I attended and the main drop in center. The journey ahead doesn’t feel as frightening and scary thanks to the staff I have encountered. I eventually got the travel costs issue I mentioned previously sorted out with a lovely helpful cashier at Wythenshawe.

Dear Anonymous, Thank you so much for sharing such a poignant and inspiring experience, and we are sorry to read that you are still having to undergo further treatment. Your description of the emotional and practical challenges that you have faced throughout your patient journey, with an autism diagnosis, and how they have been overcome through your collaboration with our staff is very rewarding to read. I can assure you that we have passed on your thoughts to the Heads of Nursing and Clinical Leads for the divisions involved on your care, who will share your comments with the staff involved. Yours sincerely, Patient Experience Team Wythenshawe Hospital

  2. Review titled Fabulous care!

Rated 5 stars out of 5

by Debbie Smith - Posted on 19 June 2024

My 90 year old mum was really anxious to have a pacemaker inserted on the 18th June, but from start to finish all staff on F2,theatre/cath lab staff were incredibly caring. There was an understanding of all mums needs and a kindness shown from all. The proceedure was carried out to a high standard by the team and she came back to the ward to be greeted with not only attentive observation but genuine care and a much needed cup of tea and toast! Grateful thanks to all the team you are all fantastic! Debbie

  4. Review titled Just amazing.

Rated 5 stars out of 5

I’ve been under investigations with cardiology for a while now but today I experienced such brilliant care. I can’t say enough how wonderful each member of staff has been. They are just amazing. It’s been such a scary time but I have felt supported every step of the way. The NHS gets such a bad reputation but the true reflection is in the work, care and commitment these wonderful staff members put in every day under the most difficult of circumstances. Thank you from the bottom of my dodgy heart!!

My extra large grandson was born by c section on 24/05/25 and there was a large team that helped deliver him and keep my daughter safe. The level of care and compassion given by every single person in the team was astounding. They reassured her every step of the way and i am very grateful. I feel so privileged to have had this team looking after her and my grandson they were truly amazing. Thank you so much to everyone on the day. You are amazing at your work, but more so, very caring and compassionate individuals.

  9. Review titled An angel in respiratory reception

Rated 4 stars out of 5

    by G. Gibson - Posted on 08 May 2024

Today 8.5.24 I arrived at the respiratory clinic only to find out it had been cancelled at short notice i.e 5hrs. before, and I wasn't made aware. I arrived in extreme pain following a diagnoses of a slipped disc only the day before and am awaiting ASAP surgery. I was treated well and with full apology, firstly by a young man who had been rearranging the said clinic. Plus, my bonus. The young lady behind the desk got a wheelchair for me, and pushed me all the way back to my car. I received generosity from both of them, they made the day better. I'm sorry that I am unable to name them, they deserve it, lost in a sea of hopelessness....

Cancelled Appointment & Staff Attitude Thank you for taking the time to give your feedback on the NHS website. We are sorry that your appointment was cancelled at short notice, and you did not find out until you attended the hospital for your appointment, which must have been very frustrating. I am pleased to read from your comments that the staff on duty supported you with re-arranging your appointment and with the provision of a wheelchair and that the member of staff pushed you back to your car. Your feedback has been shared with the Outpatient Department, and the Department Manager will be sharing your feedback with all the team. Richard Medway Involvement and Engagement Officer

  10. Review titled Lovely staff but woefully inefficient systems

Rated 4 stars out of 5

by Rebeccah Wadeson - Posted on 23 May 2024

A and E had run out of codeine to prescribe following having a broken wrist manoeuvred and cast. I waited almost 4 hours on ward f9 for pharmacy to prescribe 30mg codeine and laxatives post surgery. Surely low dose, commonly used medication could be kept securely in the ward. What a waste of bed space and time.

Dear Rebeccah, Thank you for your feedback. We were sorry to learn that your experience was not as positive as we would hope in Wythenshawe Hospital Emergency Department. It is important to us that comments are heard and seen as it provides an opportunity for the service to make changes and improvements wherever possible. Wythenshawe Emergency Department has investigated your concerns and found that the delay on the date you attended was due to the department running out of over-labelled boxes of codeine for “Take Out” medication, which are those that can be dispensed from the ward or department. There was, however, sufficient stock in the department to manage patients’ pain. This falls below the standard we expect to meet, and we are sorry for the additional distress this caused you at an already stressful time. Wythenshawe Emergency Department is reviewing processes in collaboration with the Pharmacy Department to ensure others don’t experience the same issues as you did. We apologise that on this occasion we were unable to provide you with the level of care expected and we hope that your wrist is recovering well. It can often be difficult to respond to all posts in a full way often because of a lack of detailed information so if you would like to discuss your experience with us in more detail, please do not hesitate to contact Hannah Wainwright, Emergency Department Matron at Hannah.wainwright@mft.nhs.uk or our Patient Advice and Liaison Service (PALS) on 0161 276 8686 or by e-mailing pals@mft.nhs.uk quoting reference number PO23/0164.
