Trans by amb from Fairfield to Wyth Thurs night after nasty dog bite.Anti biotic drip for infection prevention. Seen by surgeon and booked in for fri afternoon wound wash and stitches . Bed for night (own room and toilet )and examined by surgeon sat morn. Wound clean so allowed home with more antibiotics . Returned twice for dressing and stitches removal. Amazing how quickly it has healed was quite a mess .Well looked after by all staff , and nice food had visit from chef. Only down side all woke in early hours by some clown kicking off and pressing emergency alarm for fun harrassing the nurses and security . The goons they have to put up with. 2. Review titled Phone

a9 ward seem incapable of answering the phone. 28 times trying and still not answering. When information is needed about a patient, and calling from abroad, it’s diabolical that nobody picks the phone up!

Dear Patient, Thank you for taking the time to share your comments. We are sorry to learn of your unsatisfactory experience when trying to contact Ward A9, Opal Assessment Unit (OAU). The Trust strives to provide patients with effective communication, and we are sorry that we did not achieve this for you on this occasion. Your feedback has been shared with Ms. Alison Coy, Matron for Complex Health. Ms. Coy was sorry to hear of your difficulties of reaching the ward by telephone and recognises how frustrating this must have been for you. The reception desk on OAU is open and staffed by a ward clerk from 08:00 hours – 16:00hours, Monday to Friday, however due to clinical commitments the staff are not always immediately available to answer the phone. The Trust aims to make the ward accessible as possible to all its service users and Ms Coy is sorry this was not your experience. Ms Coy has confirmed that all staff have been reminded of the importance of answering calls in a timely manner. Richard Medway Involvement and Engagement Officer

  3. Review titled Heartfelt Thanks and indebted Gratitude

Rated 5 stars out of 5

by Kevin McCarthy - Posted on 27 April 2024

My son was taken into the ICU unit at Wythenshawe after a major bleed to his brain. The nurses and consulting team were honest and forthright about his chances. He was treated with dignity and respect at all times and the extra touches were unbelievable. the nurses laughed and cried along with us as a family and it felt like we were surrounded by an extention of our family. In particular I have to mention The first nurse who looked after him a guy with unbelievable strength of character, who was our sons gaurdian for his first two very important days on the ward he promised only truth and was steadfast in his treatment of my son and my family. and of course the lovelynurse who stayed by his and our sides on the day of his passing and grieved alongside my wife like only a mother could(thank you). there were many others there who shared the hard times with us and we truly admire you all. My family want you all to know that we marvel at the job you do and are so very very grateful for you all. and finally a mention to the donor team. We have seen first hand how difficult your job is and also admire your strength and humility when dealing with families. again Thank you.

  4. Review titled Amazing C section team

Rated 5 stars out of 5

by Mr Nathan L Cassidy - Posted on 28 April 2024

My wife had a c section at wythenshawe and was worried about the entire experience. The staff that handled her c section were fantastic, from getting her ready to performing the surgery and the aftercare following. The whole team were compassionate, professional and efficient whilst making sure my wife was ok. A massive thank you to the anaesthesiologist (this review wont allow me to put names but i hope she knows who this is) Her approach to healthcare is very admirable and the way she kept my wife at ease throughout was amazing. As someone who was terrified about the c section procedure myself, I would absolutely recommend to others not to be worried in the hands of the people that handled my wifes case. Thank you all so much.

  5. Review titled Excellent care

Rated 5 stars out of 5

by Anna - Posted on 22 April 2024

I am having surgery tomorrow for a missed miscarriage and had my pre op appointment. I was seen immediately to have blood pressure and bloods taken & the person who took them was very friendly and efficient - I told them it was the best blood taking I'd had as I'd hardly felt it and it was over quickly. The person I saw for my pre-op appointment was also very friendly, empathetic and professional. They ensured I had any questions answered and offered good advice. Had more bloods drawn again & this was also painless. Forgot to add that after the first lot of bloods was drawn I waited in EGU triage and everyone was being seen very quickly - I was taken to my pre op appointment within 10 mins. Thanks for making a sad time easier.

  6. Review titled Kind staff

Rated 5 stars out of 5

by Anna - Posted on 24 April 2024

Returned yesterday for surgical management of a missed miscarriage. As in my pre op appointment, all staff were incredible. The anesthetist who spoke to me first on the day ward was very friendly. The nurse looking after me in the day ward before & after surgery was also kind, friendly and helpful. The porters who took me to surgery in a wheelchair made sure I was comfortable with a pillow and blanket and were friendly on the journey. I had to wait for a bit in another room before surgery & began to feel uncomfortable due to the mild period pain from a pill I needed to take pre surgery mixed with hunger since you can't eat the day of surgery. I got a bit teary because of that & nerves for surgery as I'd never had GA before. Someone came & sat with me, gave me a tissue, drew a curtain for privacy & was very kind, empathetic & reassuring (they may have been a nurse but I'm not sure). They followed up with the doctor to see when I'd be going in for surgery & the doctor came to chat with me & apologise for the wait & validated my feelings with kindness too. Once in the theater everyone preparing me for surgery including the anesthetist were very warm, friendly & funny making me feel more relaxed. Post surgery everyone I interacted with were friendly & even got me a booklet to read on request when I was getting bored waiting to be returned to the day ward. Back in the ward the nurse again was very helpful & had good bedside manner, talking me through each step & keeping me updated on when I'd be able to go home. The tea & toast was delivered quickly & was tasty too!

  7. Review titled Amazing care at Gynaecology Unit

Rated 5 stars out of 5

by Georgia foy - Posted on 24 April 2024

Absolutely overwhelmed with the care and amazing support the staff at this hospital provide. They have saved my life twice because of the quick action taken by the staff. Since saving my life when my son was born, I have recently attended again with a very rare case that I later found out even the senior staff have never seen before, however, the staff here did everything possible to find the issue and took action immediately without sending me home. If I was sent home I might not be here today, I cannot take the staff enough for what they do and how I have been treated. A particular amazing doctor opened a 2nd theatre to ensure I had the surgery I needed immediately and successfully operated. I am very grateful for you all and would hope this review is seen by the lovely people who have looked after me throughout my time there!

  9. Review titled Good experience

Rated 5 stars out of 5

by Anonymous - Posted on 24 June 2024

I was sent down to a and e by my gpand after waiting in a Very busy department, I was seen, had bloods taken and admitted. Everything was explained to me and I knew I was in safe hands. I spent the 1st night on a6 before being transferred to f7:This ward was always busy but the start we courteous and always found time to speak to us. The food was good and the medication during the day I had on time, my only concern was the time I was getting my last medication before bed. Sometimes it was nearly midnight before I got my meds and then was woken up at 6am to take my medicine observations and blood. The last night before I came home I was transferred to f9which I did not mind as I knew I was going to be discharged home. The ward was okay, my only grumble about that ward was what the food was served on. All week I had meals brought on proper plates, but not f9 it was served on disposable plates and the portion sizes were not enough even to feed a child. Breakfast there was no orange juice, you could not get porridge and the toast was nearly burnt and cold by the time I was given it and all before 7:30am. Lunch all the puddings they served was yoghurts. If they are going to have patients come from other wards, where they have received proper meals, isn’t it right that f9 should also dish up to the same standards of other wards. That is my only grumble or otherwise it was a good all round experience where I was felt fo feel at ease.

Dear patient, Thank you for your feedback. We were sorry to learn that your experience at Wythenshawe Hospital in April 2024 was not as positive as we would hope. It is important to us that comments are heard and seen as it provides an opportunity for the service to make changes and improvements wherever possible. In response to your comment around nighttime medication delays on Ward F7, this has been shared with the ward nursing teams and the importance of timely medication rounds will be reiterated in the next Ward F7 meeting. With regards to your comments regarding the quality and quantity of food whilst on Ward F9, we are currently in the process of reviewing the meals services which are provided on that ward. F9 has been a day case ward and therefore regrettably has a limited offer for mealtimes. We are currently working alongside Sodexo, the external company who supply our hospital food, to supply a hot meal provision for patients admitted to F9. It is difficult to respond to all posts in a full way often because of a lack of detailed information, therefore, if you would like to discuss your experience with us in more detail, please do not hesitate to contact our Patient Advice and Liaison Service (PALS) on 0161 276 8686 or by e-mailing pals@mft.nhs.uk quoting reference number PO24/0008, they will do their best to address your concerns. 10. Review titled Can't thank the staff at Wythenshawe Hospital enough!

Rated 5 stars out of 5

by Janine Richardson Smith - Posted on 18 July 2024

In April I experienced a sudden Appendicitis. From the minute I arrived in the emergency department I can only praise the staff I came into contact with from all the departments I passed through. I ended up being an in patient for 5 days due to my appendix rupturing, the staff on the ward were fantastic and looked after me extremely well including helping source basic toiletries as when I arrived at A&E I did not expect to be an in patient!. I have previously had planned surgery at Wythenshawe Hospital and had an equally positive experience. My extreme thanks.
