  1. Review titled Team work at its best

Rated 5 stars out of 5

by MR DAVID K SCOTT - Posted on 10 March 2023

Having a complete gastrectomy I spent 12 days with Ward 36 and all that support it. Terrified of coming into hospital, the team of surgeons, psychologists, anaesthetists, nurses and all made this as comfortable a journey it could be. Happy friendly and truly compassionate people. On the ward the staff were excellent, you could want for nothing, all you needed to do was ask. The team work at every level was very apparent which made the whole thing easy to deal with. There was lots of humour, which I wouldn’t associate with a hospital ward, which has to help with recovery ! Certainly did for me. These people have saved my life, pulled me from a very dark place, made me smile and more than that look to a future I never had. Thank you to you all.

  2. Review titled Exceptional staff

Rated 5 stars out of 5

I can't praise the nursing staff and doctor highly enough. My son was quickly seen and assessed and medication started within 2 hrs of arriving. He had quinsy and we were referred straight over to the ENT team at the Freeman where quality care continued. A potentially scary situation where his throat was narrowing all brought under control within 5 hrs of arriving. Thank you all so much for your food humour, care and efficiency.

  4. Review titled Appalling

Rated 1 star out of 5

I rang dermatology after waiting 11 months. I had a pre cancerous mole on my forehead, I was told I needed a procedure to remove skin/cells around the infected area and this would be carried out within 4 weeks! I rang and spoke to the receptionist who said she would ring me back. She didn’t. I rang again and spoke to the same receptionist who apologised and said was I free on Saturday 18/03/23. I cancelled a weekend break with my wife to honour the appointment. Arrived today to be told “we have not appointment for you”. “11 months? , the waiting list is over two years”. “ you need to go as we don’t have you on today’s list”. I’m absolutely shocked and devastated. I realised this may not be a big problem for the trust but it’s like a shadow constantly hanging over me. I’ve never felt so depressed. I finally thought I could put this behind me but was again spoken to like a naughty child. I’m disgusted by the lack of empathy and professionalism. It’s little wonder people go private when this is the accepted norm. I will be complaining to the CQC about this. Disgraceful

  5. Review titled Amazing service , expertise and Care

Rated 5 stars out of 5

by Noel Turnbull - Posted on 13 March 2023

From the moment my wife broke her ankle at home the care she has had has been exemplary. Paramedics; surgical and care teams cannot be faulted for their hard work, compassion, dedication and clinical abilities. Just two glitches in an otherwise faultless service; a) discharged at 9.30am -left at 7.00pm due to wait for pharmacy to provide aspirin and paracetamol (the rumour was the pharmacy had run out of paracetamol) b) First visit to Fracture Clinic transported by ageing infirm helper we discovered the few drop off points were all occupied by taxis whose drivers were idling and just chatting amongst themselves. None seemed to be waiting for a booking and we were annoyed to find a dedicated taxi drop off and pick up area less than 100 yards away. After a detour back onto Queen Victoria Road we re-entered and were lucky to park in a blue badge space but the walk to the Clinic was stressful and painful. Once in the fracture clinic the service could not be faulted. Please ensure that taxi drivers do not occupy the drop off spaces long term.

  6. Review titled Excellent service

Rated 5 stars out of 5

I attended for what turned out to just be a bad viral infection but I didn’t know this at the time so I was quite frightened at not being able to breathe. Despite being so incredibly busy, every single staff member was kind, patient and knowledgeable. I also witnessed them being exactly the same to other patients, including those who were frustrated with the wait time.

  7. Review titled Ward 8 very helpful staff.

Rated 4 stars out of 5

by Christopher Webb - Posted on 22 February 2023

I didnt get the ladies name who helped me and my son before his operation because of a mistake made on the list. She made my boy happy as he could be (2 year old) and helped me a lot what happened. The full staff on ward 8 were apologetic for what happened, which was no mistake of theirs. If you ever see the lady with pink shirt on, you have no need to worry from there. Absolute diamond and I wish I got her name to mention in this. Thank you to that special lady and the rest of the ward 8 level 4 staff! Much appreciated

  8. Review titled Caring and compassion

Rated 5 stars out of 5

by Higgs family - Posted on 28 February 2023

We can’t express enough how much the care, compassion and commitment of the staff on Ward 49 meant to us. We came to the ward as strangers and spent a lot of time there as our relative was palliative. The staff were so caring and supportive and made a very difficult time easier to bear. We left feeling like we were saying goodbye to friends. Thank you to all, you’re special people.

  10. Review titled rude a&e staff

Rated 1 star out of 5

by Anonymous - Posted on 10 February 2023

I was advised on going to the a&e department from a doctors on the 111 service due to heavy irregular bleeding and dizziness, this had been going on for 3 months but by this time was to the point where I couldn’t do daily tasks the dizziness was bad. Waited in a&e gp, minor injuries part for 3 hours, there wasn’t even many people waiting so I didn’t get how the wait was so long and the person who took my obs said to me ‘why are you here when you were recently at your own gp’s’ which was very rude and she wasn’t friendly at all she actually told me to slow down when I was talking which was also belittling and out of order and then the actually doctor seen me and basically I got told there was nothing they could do so it was a waste of my time, I had no tests done, no bloods, no nothing even though I was advised to go by 111
