  1. Review titled Fantastic level of care

Rated 5 stars out of 5

by Lee Wardle - Posted on 12 January 2024

I was transported by Ambulance into the RVI late at night and within a couple of hours had seen the registrar who discussed what my options were and recommended surgery. I was placed on the emergency surgery list and within a few hours was undergoing spinal surgery. The level of care and attentiveness of the staff was first class and everybody made me feel at ease. I was very well looked after and due to the constant communication, felt confident of a good outcome. Cannot thank everybody enough.

I had an appointment in dermatology dept at 15.45. I was seen on time by doctor, had photos taken of my hand, had a minor procedure and was on my way home by 16.45. Can't fault the experience. Well done dermatology dept.

  3. Review titled Professional, cautious, friendly and caring

Rated 5 stars out of 5

I received excellent care in my recent neurosurgery experience at the RVI from all the team. From the consultant neurosurgeon, who patiently and flawlessly answered my intense questioning, the friendly anaesthetists who put me at ease on the big day, the industrious cheerful and kind nurses on the HDU ward and friendly porters always happy to help. This was a huge decision for me to opt for surgery, potentially life-changing and I was really anxious wondering if I was doing the right thing, but I needn't have worried because the whole experience went smoothly from start to finish. Thank you!

  6. Review titled Thank you for being so kind

Rated 5 stars out of 5

I came to ED on 9th November with breathing issues caused by pneumonia. The ANP, the respiratory and the ED consultant that looked after me during a really frightening experience were so caring, patient and kind when I was truly terrified. They were quick to act, including moving straight to monitoring bay and carried out all tests. Being 36 and usually well I never thought this would happen to me and they calmed me down. The RVI are lucky to have these people working for them and they deserve to know that. I have forgotten their names, but I do know the ANP was a lady that was working this day and the respiratory consultant sent me to ward 19, where the nursing and medical staff were also brilliant. Thank you. You have all gotten me onto the journey of getting better.

  7. Review titled Outstanding Service

Rated 5 stars out of 5

by Carla Clarke - Posted on 21 November 2023

We arrived late due to a car accident on the way, the staff were kind and understanding. Got in to see the Dr almost straight away. My husband got a thorough examination and had a mole removed. The staff are always helpful and listen to any concerns we have. The clinic has a great atmosphere and everyone is friendly and you are put totally at ease. My husband has received dermatology care in other hospitals in the area, none of them provide such an excellent service. The nurse who removed the mole was efficient and professional. We received information regarding what will happen next. If you ever need melanoma care this is the place to be. My husband is a retired General Practitioner

  8. Review titled Ward 45 is amazing

Rated 5 stars out of 5

by Claire - Posted on 07 October 2023

I had the most wonderful experience on ward 45. All the staff were so kind and caring. Clearly very busy but nothing was too much for them. I felt safe and cared for by everyone, health care assistants, anaesthetists, surgeon, theatre and recovery staff , and my nurse. I wasn’t afraid to ask questions and my nurse was the most wonderful, kind, compassionate , caring and funny lady - she was just wonderful.

  9. Review titled Phenomenal Long Covid Cardiac Service

Rated 5 stars out of 5

by Anonymous - Posted on 02 November 2023

I am beyond grateful for the Long Covid Cardiovascular Complications Clinic at the Rvi. This exemplar clinic at Ward 50/Day Unit deserves an excellence award for the quality of care and vital service it delivers. Lovely, caring, compassionate staff members (nurses, trainee doctors and the consultant long covid expert) who take their patient’s health and safety very seriously. Of note, the extremely knowledgeable, committed and dedicated Consultant Cardiologist & Long Covid Expert takes every precaution that is practicably possible to keep everyone safe from getting infected/re-infected during their visit with an airborne biosafety level 3 biohazard that is covid - from an ffp3 mask to a hepa filter. I am an nhs staff myself and have been inspired to especially adopt these practises/learnings in my own work environment too, for the safety of my own patients and colleagues, whenever I return. The dedication and concern for patients at this clinic is commendable; this is exactly what a Long Covid Clinic should look like and must serve as an exemplar model for Nhs England and global health services. I feel fortunate to have access to this precious service within reach; there’s millions of patients suffering due to a lack of such service, expertise, understanding or interest in this condition and therefore, lack of treatments available. So much happens in this clinic from correct assessment and evaluation of patients, research work, teaching and training, through to accurate monitoring, diagnosis, treatment and management of post covid complexities, despite the lack of evidence-based treatments and tests due to funding issues. Thank you to Nuthft for funding into this vital service for Long Covid Cardiovascular Complications patients, and all the research and lovely staff members - we’d be lost without it! Rvi & local population are incredibly lucky to have an expert cardiologist on this complex condition based at Rvi whose knowledge on the subject matter, efforts and determination to help restore patients back as much as possible to their pre-covid life/function with limited resources, evidence-base and funding is laudable and should be recognised. I anticipate Newcastle/Rvi to become a pioneer specialist long covid / cardiovascular complications centre - which I feel it already is and just needs the official recognition - there is no service like it within the Uk that I’m aware of! Excellent service, excellent staff, keep up the great work!

  10. Review titled Excellent Service

Rated 5 stars out of 5

by Jan Murray - Posted on 30 October 2023

My mam had a fall and was taking by ambulance to the RVI Emergency Department, the ambulance staff were so kind and friendly doing all there checks and making sure she was comfortable, the nurses interacted with you I could not fault any of the staff, doctors every one of them were so kind and treated her with respect, it was a busy night but nothing was any trouble even making a cup of tea which was really nice, the doctors were so down to earth and answered everything we asked although we were there 7 hours, even the receptionist rang for a taxi for us, i just wish they had more staff just to give themselves a break will definitely want to go back there if I were to take ill well done everybody
