Review titled Poor practice
Rated 2 stars out of 5
by Elizabeth Lund - Posted on 13 February 2023
I accept the 1 and a half year wait instead of 4 month wait for the follow up appointment in Gynaecology. The directions for gynae were poor, however still managed to get to the right place 15 mins prior appointment. Was given the impression the consultant was waiting for me. I explained the side effects of the drug I had been given a year and a half ago, which I found intolerable and resulted in me stopping them. Consultant totally disagreed with one of the side effects. I found this somewhat dismissive, it is my body and I don't expect to be disbelieved and dismissed regarding my experience of the drug. Consultant wrote down discontinued because of side effects. How is that going to help anyone else or indeed gather further knowledge regarding a drug. Thereafter a gloomy and fairly hopeless monologue regarding further potential interventions followed. I did query the lack of support etc on offer for women. His response was no men have it as well. I was out within minutes...job done and box ticked I guess.

Review titled Disappointed with reception at Restaurant
Rated 3 stars out of 5
by Anonymous - Posted on 03 February 2023
Found an ipad/tablet left unattended for over 40 minutes on one of the restaurants table, took it to the reception desk in the restaurant and the lady refused to hold this for safety and told me to put it back on the table l, which I did. I was shocked by this action as I thought she should have kept hold of it until the owner reported it missing. After an hour, the owner turned up and thanked me for keeping an eye on it. Explained I had tried to give it to the receptionist for safekeeping but she refused. He too was surprised. Note - never forget your items at the restaurant because the reception staff would not hold it for safekeeping! Very disappointed!!

Review titled No urgency at all, apart from the Doctors who were excellent
Rated 5 stars out of 5
by Anonymous - Posted on 19 February 2023
My elderly Mother was admitted to A&E this week. Her end-to-end experience before admittance to the ward was 15 hours. After approx three hours she was seen by a Doctor, who was extremely thorough, very friendly and kind. She ordered scans. We waited literally hours for my Mother to be collected for her tests. During the wait I noticed that the Doctors seemed to be worked off their feet, seeing multiple patients. The nursing staff were also all friendly and kind to my Mother. However I witnessed extreme slowness by the nursing staff. For example there were frequently four to five staff seemingly just sat around chatting at one of their internal stations. Looking at their phones, laughing and joking with each other for what seemed like a very long time. I was shocked as the wider department seemed to be increasingly busy. Even when one of them did set off to do something, it was done with such a lack of intention or urgency it was amazing. No wonder the A&E department has such huge waiting times. I know they might be disillusioned, but strolling in and out at double slow time, and laughing and chatting as a group, is surely only going to increase waiting times there. It seems to me that there were too many nursing staff to have enough to do, and not enough doctors and porters. When I am in work, I wouldn't dare to just sit around chatting with my colleagues, Genuinely surprised and saddened to see it.

Review titled My little baby had to go to A&E
by fg2019 - Posted on 20 January 2023
Starting from the ambulance team (they were amazing) and the staff (Nurse and Doctor) in A&E, everyone was very kind and caring. It was a very positive experience in a stressful situation. Thank you!

Review titled Generally slow but caring
Rated 3 stars out of 5
by Anonymous - Posted on 12 January 2023
I arrived at 1am, and was triaged 2.5 hours later. I was then seen by a doctor after a further 2.5 hours, where I was referred on to a different department. All staff, with the exception of the senior doctor in the ED that night, were exceptionally caring, compassionate and apologetic for the long wait experienced.

Review titled Amazing staff
Rated 5 stars out of 5
by Ieva Lapina - Posted on 30 January 2023
My six year old daughter had an emergency appointment at the eye casualty. She is finding it very stressful to go to hospital and see health care staff. The staff at the eye casualty were compassionate, understanding and kind. They took their time with her as I appreciate they all had a long days work behind them. She has been better after the appointment. Thank you so much!

Review titled Incredibly efficient
Rated 5 stars out of 5

I'd been referred to plastics from A&E, and the staff were all very friendly, efficient and caring. Within hours of being referred, I was on the operating table, in the hands of a great junior doctor. All staff were brilliant. Couldn't have asked for better - especially given the circumstances.

Review titled My 96 year old mothers experience at Stoke Mandeville on being admitted by ambulance
by Anne of High Wycombe - Posted on 13 January 2023
My mother fractured her right wrist recently and was admitted to hospital A&E. Long wait in corridor with many other patients. Ambulance crew asked why we called an ambulance. We went through 111, it was them that directed the ambulance to us. We would have taken my mother to hospital if we possibly could have but she is very immobile, was in pain and is 96 years old. Ambulance was called at 6pm and arrived at 7am the following morning. Checks made, bloods, ECG, x-rays etc. and eventually a plaster put on her wrist. Taken home by Age UK, excellent service. Overall treatment good and well done to all the nursing staff, Dr's, and helpers. Had to call 999 as Mother had more pain two days after being discharged. Next ambulance crew detected problem with Mum's heart, back to Stoke A&E. Waiting in corridor again, ECG, x-ray, bloods, and drip. Discharged the following day. Taken home by Age UK. Again well done to staff working under pressure and difficult times. So sad to see so many poorly people having to wait, mostly elderly and without anyone with them. Back to Stoke on Tuesday for a follow up appointment for heart. Taken by patient transport to Stoke. Turned up on time and dropped at clinic. Transport booked by Stoke. More, bloods, ECG etc. and new medication for AF prescribed. Had to wait 3 hours for transport home. Disappointing as Dr and Nurses worked very hard to get Mother ready for 12.30 when transport said they would be back to collect us. Following day, Mother had an appointment with Trauma and Orthopaedic Clinic at Wycombe hospital. Transport had been booked 2 days before appointment as requested with wheelchair and 2 persons to help. One crew member arrived and said she couldn't take Mother. Therefore, unable to attend the clinic. Very disappointing indeed as we had done everything to get Mother to Wycombe. The web site for Patient Transport needs to be greatly improved and made more user friendly. Outcome, we now have to wait until later January for the next appointment at Wycombe. Plaster should only have been on for 1 week, therefore in our opinion is the plaster medically fit to be on Mother? Is it helping the fracture to heal? Thank you to all the staff at Stoke Mandeville who work so hard to deal with all the patients coming into A&E. We appreciate your efforts.

Review titled Slipped on ice
by cafetr78 - Posted on 14 December 2022
I fell late in the evening and had enough pain to realise I needed a hospital. I had an x-ray to diagnose the dislocation and eventually needed theatre treatment. Everyone was so upbeat and friendly despite being overwhelming busy. I cannot thank or respect the staff enough for their support.
