Review titled A&E visit - broken arm
by julietgj63 - Posted on 19 April 2023
My husband attended A&E during April. Being a day of striking we expected long queues. He was out within 2 hours having had 2 X-rays and been seen by hospital staff and been to the pharmacy. Amazing service thank you.

Review titled Fantastic care
Rated 5 stars out of 5
by Julie - Posted on 19 April 2023
I have attended twice for a hysteroscopy with the same consultant. Both times have been a breeze. All the nurses are wonderful and help to put you at ease. My consultant couldn’t be more inspiring or reassuring. I am quite an anxious patient and google doesn’t help. If you are like me please be assured that on both occasions I would describe my procedure as completely pain free. Any discomfort was very mild, negligible in fact and the procedure was incredibly quick. I would like to express a huge thank you to the team at SMH who have taken care of me there over the last couple of years. You really couldn’t be in better hands.

Review titled Great A&E childrens service
Rated 5 stars out of 5
by Jenni Homewood - Posted on 03 April 2023
I want to say how impressed I was with the A&E department today (2/04/23.) It was well ran, organised, friendly staff, and although it was busy they were able to quickly triage and support my granddaughter. One hears so many negative stories about A&E but this hospital is getting it right. Proud of all NHS staff who are up against the worst times ever and yet deliver time and time again. Well done SM A&E

Review titled Apathetic response from PALs
Rated 2 stars out of 5
by Anonymous - Posted on 26 April 2023
I emailed PALs asking for help with my referrals. The lady I spoke to was callous & abrasive .Her tone and attitude were disrespectful. I felt like I was on a trial for committing a heinous crime. Since 2021 I have been in agony and things have deteriorated but all referrals completed last year have been put as routine, still waiting , no one has a clue of what is wrong with me and not really interested to know. The person I spoke to didnt even want to hear me out. She kept asking me what i expected PALs to do regarding my referrals. I regret contacting PALs as it made me feel even worse . According to the lady , my health issue is not “life threatening “ so I have to wait. I work with people and I wouldn’t speak to anyone the way she spoke to me. Maybe that is how she is trained to do to put people off from contacting PALs.

Review titled Nurses really dismissive
Rated 1 star out of 5

We come in for the 8th time in 9 months with an ovarian cyst which the operation keeps getting move. Head surgeon said this needs operating on soon! We have come back in with vomiting and sicknesss and upon trying to explain what is happening we were asked stupid questions such as, have you eaten something dodgy. I think tried to explain my partner needed to go onto fluids and antisickness as quick as possible, as we have had this 8 times before. This was ignored and we were made to sit and wait for 5 hours, which saw my partner get more lethargic and almost too weak to speak. This hospital is going down and down

Review titled Explained everything to me
by Cazz - Posted on 03 March 2023
I would just like to give a positive review about the endoscopy department at Stoke Mandeville Hospital. Today I was given a gastroscope and was obviously feeling anxious. The staff were absolutely amazing. So kind, professional and explained everything to me. A huge thank you to the team.

I accompanied my daughter to the eye casualty department yesterday and would like to commend all the staff we encountered during our visit. You were welcoming, professional and very thorough in your diagnostics and treatment. Many thanks.

Review titled They do not care.

Was sent to A and E and accepted under medics by GP with epilepsy and a headache that pain relief did not work. Queued for an hour, was told I be triaged and given stronger medication. 3 hours later i was in triage nurse was rude and emotionless while i cried in pain stated I declined medication when I stated I been taken it for 5 days straight and it didn't work, my partner also expressed concern as I had multiple seizures in the waiting room. 9 hours for pain medication. My partner kept chasing it up no one knew nothing. Finally saw a lovely junior doctor who went above and beyond for me. Prescribed different medicine and when she came back she said she sorry I had to wait another 2 hours for it. She contacted all the necessary people and I was eventually allowed home.
