My mother and her partner attended the ophthalmology outpatient department and were shown genuine compassion and care. The nurse went above and beyond and made such a positive difference to their experience, we’re very grateful.

I visited with my elderly mother . The department on the first floor was an absolute disgrace . Looked dirty plaster missing on wall where my mother was laid . The whole place needs a total refurbishment . Very depressing

  4. Review titled Colonoscopy - mixed experience

Rated 5 stars out of 5

by Anonymous - Posted on 26 January 2023

I was booked on a 2 week referral & when the appointment was made I was advised that someone would contact me to go through everything however this never happened. I received my prep on a Friday evening, just 3 days before the appointment date & a couple of hours before the department closed so I felt a bit unprepared as I had such a short window of time to ask questions after reading through all the information. I struggled to get through on phone but thankfully managed to just in time & spoke to a wonderful person who answered all my questions & reassured me. When I arrived at the department I was greeted by a receptionist who started to book me in, they then walked off midway through with no explaination & started to do other work leaving the second receptionist to take over after noticing me still standing there. I found that quite rude. After that everyone I interacted with was great & I was really put at ease by the team who carried out the colonoscopy. They kept me informed throughout & comforted me as I was very anxious about the whole thing. The procedure was a breeze! The after care felt a little bit rushed & I'm suprised that after fasting for so long I was not offered any food or drink afterwards, despite being repeatedly told this would happen in the second recovery room. I had to ask for water a few times before I got some which wasn't great. I am also a bit unsure as to what will happen next as my colonoscopy was clear which leaves me with unanswered questions about what caused my symptoms. I was told by 2 different people that someone will contact me but the report says refer back to GP. Overall my experience was mixed but the important part, the colonoscopy itself, was very positive.

  6. Review titled Phenomenal Treatment & Care

Rated 5 stars out of 5

by Zahira Ali - Posted on 23 December 2022

I cannot stress how brilliant my treatment and care was - from the surgical team to the nursing and healthcare staff - to all the staff who I encountered during my short stay at the hospital. I am writing this review from home, 2 days after being discharged, whilst managing post-operative pain, because I want my experience to remain as fresh as possible in my mind despite the pain. But also, as a reminder of just how vulnerable a patient is pre and post treatment and how skilled one must be, not only in medical practice, but in the art of kindness and compassion, to combat that vulnerability with self-confidence and independence in caring for oneself. Thank you so so much for all that you have done for me, my family, and to all my loved ones. Please never lose sight of all your incredible efforts, take care of yourselves, and last but not least, remain phenomenal!

  7. Review titled Absolutely Excellent A&E Staff

Rated 5 stars out of 5

by Edward - Posted on 13 November 2022

The A&E staff were wonderful. I was triaged within 10 minutes of arriving. The 3 nursing staff that cared for me were friendly, supportive, kind and sympathetic. I really could not have asked for more. They had already been on shift I suspect for 8 hours when I arrived and were working so very hard. I should also add the reception staff were wonderful as well. I had been awake myself for over 24 hours and was extremely tired. As more emergencies came in, I took the decision to discharge myself and see if the symptoms worsened. Happily they started to reduce 24 hours ago and I now seem stable. It was the right decision for me to take but the nursing staff still tried to get me to stay. Bless them. I don't know if you are able to do so but, would it be possible to pass on my sincere best wishes to them. Kind regards. Edward

  8. Review titled Difficulty in cancelling appointment

Rated 3 stars out of 5

by Anonymous - Posted on 04 November 2022

Spent over an hour trying to cancel my appointment at St James's for a fibroscan booked for 11.00am, 5th November, 2022. On being placed 60th in the queue on when ringing the cancellation number (there was no option for cancellations, just directions to the cancellation website!) so I opted for "all other outpatient queries". I then rang the hepatology dept and they gave me a number which was a department at Seacroft hospital, which couldn't help, but the admin person I spoke to gave me a number where she thought I might get some help. No one answered after 5 minutes, so I resorted to the online form, which isn't fit for purpose. I filled it in to the best of my ability, but am not confident that it will get to the right department, as from the extensive list of departments, there was no listing for Hepatology.

  10. Review titled Outstanding practice

Rated 5 stars out of 5

I had Breast cancer surgery on ward j23. My Surgeon, anaesthetists, and the ward staff worked professionally, compassionately, utilising finite resources. I felt safe, individual and respected. Their joy at offering a bed in their ward. I have the utmost respect for their talent, skill, personal approach and reassurance. Thankyou team.
