  1. Review titled Wonderful maternity care

Rated 5 stars out of 5

by Nikki - Posted on 26 November 2023

I cannot praise and thank the entire maternity service at Southend Hospital (pre and post birth). Every single midwife/team member I met was wonderful, kind, caring and made my birthing experience one to remember. I had private healthcare but opted for NHS as I just could not fault the service. Every member of the theatre team was also superb making sure I was relaxed, informed and calm. I feel extremely fortunate to have had such a wonderful birth with such fantastic people who work super hard and are amazing at what they do. My little man would not be here without the them. Thank you!!

  2. Review titled Utter utter disbelief at what I experienced

    by Amy234 - Posted on 13 October 2023

Suspected DVT as have all classic symptoms- red swelling, chest pain, floaters, pins and needles in arms. I have a history of DVT under 30 years old. Walk into a&e Southend and wait 7 hours - no examination, no urgency, no interest in my symptoms, told I am severely dehydrated but nothing offered in 7 hours. Blood tests eventually taken. Waited more hours hours. Blood tests return but nothing checked for DVT on notes. Not sure what they were checking. Was told to have a repeat blood test - more waiting. When I voiced my concerns I was told repeatedly to compose myself and wait in the waiting room outside with the 100 other poorly patients. Utter utter disbelief at what I experienced. I felt I was in a building full of actors pretending to be doctors and nurses. Nobody helping anyone by my observations - a man waiting 6 hours for a prescription for antibiotics. A terminal cancer young patient given blood tests - to be told the blood tests were no good - wait another 3 hours for more blood tests. Names being called out but nobody responding. So doctors and nurses disappear for 20 minutes to be repeated several times over sometimes same names. Same faces all waiting in pain for hours on end. Fobbed off with blood tests not right needs to be repeated. Doctor needs to write a prescription but they are busy at the moment. What the hell is going on? I left the a&e unit 8.5 hours later- no wiser if I have a DVT. No examinations, no scans, nobody giving any answers to any of my questions. I am never going to a nhs hospital again. I’d rather die at home than put my faith in the nhs system. Up until then they had my upmost respect. I feel sorry for anyone that needs the nhs service. It feels like may as well wait at a bus garage for 7 hours. Probably get more response and help from the public than a nhs doctor or nurse. Ashamed to be a U.K. citizen and taxpayer.

  3. Review titled thank you

Rated 4 stars out of 5

I would like to thank everyone in the surgery assessment unit (hope that's the right title) on the first floor of the main building, for their efficiency and above all their kindness during my time there on 20 and 24 October 2023, and the same to those in the endoscopy unit on 03 November 2023. What you did for me is very much appreciated.

  4. Review titled Excellent team

Rated 4 stars out of 5

by Benjamin Robbins - Posted on 13 October 2023

Walking into a packed waiting room is a bit of a daunting task, expecting to be there for hours. The team burned through the list of people with clear concise questions, from my triage appointment, and had me referred. The doctor reviewed my issue, had me round to the x-ray room and back within 25 minutes and had recommended a course if action and even went and got the antibiotics for me. It was a great experience and thank you to the team

  5. Review titled Ignored

Rated 3 stars out of 5

by Sarah JOHNSON - Posted on 19 October 2023

I was referred for an MRI over a year ago by the Hospital Trust but nothing has come about. Have under gone other diagnostic investigations without diagnosis and now been referred to pain management to get the MRI. I tried chasing with my doctors surgery, but they said I needed to contact pain management at the hospital. Their suggestion is impossible as there is no contact information. This review is my only method of contacting pain management to find out why I have still heard nothing. I have been on tramadol for approximately 3 years and don't want to be on it indefinitely. Wouldn't mind if it made me pain free, but even the double dose only eases it minimally.

  6. Review titled Unacceptable

My g.p has referred me to Southend hospital on a 2ww which means you should be seen within 2 weeks as suspected cancer. So got my appointment today for just over 6 weeks time so what's the point of having a 2ww if they don't use it so now over 6 weeks of worry.

  7. Review titled Very disappointing

Rated 1 star out of 5

    by T.C - Posted on 23 October 2023

I have never had an issue with audiology at all and have been for a number of appointments, i have had hearing loss from a young age. My recent ent appointment I hadn’t even been sent in regards to an issue with my ears but my nose, appointment number 1 was given a hearing test no big issues I thought all part of the service. I was told to leave and the consultation would call me. When he called he went over my hearing loss and told me I had normal hearing and low level hearing loss in the other of course I was shocked never had these readings before. He wasn’t aware I was a hearing aid wearer or even my history, let alone I had attended for my nose. When my husband spoke with him, his words was literally I don’t know what you want me to do, but agreed to see me. I would like to see my in clinic was any better as he still had no past history on my hearing loss, when I asked him to compare my last reading to this one I was told he couldn’t, all I wanted to know is if my ear drums had finally started working and if so why do I still struggle with hearing especially when I don’t use my aids. There was no offer to even repeat the hearing test. In regards to my nose, I knew the issues and was scared and asked him please don’t tell me in which as close to my face as he could get he gave me that news I had asked not to be given. I have taken this up with pals and hope that in future more care is taken in care of patients especially those who suffer trauma. I am not ok with my treatment or level of care I was given this time round.

Dreadful place. My poor son has been in & out of there since January & he has currently been in ED since 7 am last night, although he is immuno suppressed. I dread him going on to a ward though as the staff just can't be bothered
