  1. Review titled Poor quality of communication and treatment

Rated 1 star out of 5

by Anonymous - Posted on 17 February 2023

I was sent by my doctor with a letter who had rang and told them I was coming with breathing difficulties was booked in on arrival sat 2 hours before I was seen by triage who told me to take a seat in waiting room even though I was struggling to breath sat 3 more hours waiting to be told it could be a lot longer wait I was not given anything to help with my breathlessness so I left with no treatment and no explanation of why I went through my doctors and after 5hours still had not had any help definatley would never use this hospital again appallingly.

I attended the Endoscopy Department on 16th Feb for a colonoscopy. I would just like to say what a wonderful team of caring and reassuring staff. I was put at ease and everything was explained to me. A credit to the NHS. Thank you.

  3. Review titled Third world service

Rated 1 star out of 5

My husband was sent by GP for emergency admittance. 73 years old with complex and urgent medical needs I drove him so he didnt skip to ambulance direct to AE. No we thought help the NHS. 10 hours later they had still not seen him. Left him sitting in a plastic chair no food just some juice. At 11pm I called a taxi and brought him home. He is so ill I am incandescent with rage. We didnt just turn up his doctor phoned alerted them to how serious it was and they still ignored. How could they my dogs have better care from my vet. He is now so weak I will phone his doctor tomorrow. This hospital is broken. No care no follow up of vulnerable patients. If you dont get through those golden doors no one cares.

Following the Scunthorpe Hospital link on the web I used the phone number listed. This took me to Grimsby hospital, not Scunthorpe.

  5. Review titled Good experience

Rated 5 stars out of 5

by David Bontoft - Posted on 03 February 2023

I attended for a procedure (cystoscopy). The staff were friendly ,courteous and very efficient. This was the first time I had had his procedure. Everyone made me feel comfortable. The staff at the examination were great, they put me at ease, explained everything about the procedure, the risks and what they would do during the examination. The whole thing went very smoothly, I could follow the complete examination on a screen. They explained what they were seeing and the condition of the body part. They were professional, reassuring and sensitive to my needs. Afterwards they fully explained their findings and the options for follow on care. I can’t compliment their professionalism and courtesy enough. Afterwards a nurse explained she would be seeing me in the future when it begins. Anyone going for this examination can be sure they are in goo hands.

  6. Review titled Very Efficient

Rated 5 stars out of 5

by Julie Robinson - Posted on 17 January 2023

After having a fall whilst out walking and landing face first on solid frosty ground, I attended the A&E Department with pain and discomfort in my jaw. I was seen within half an hour by a nurse who was very helpful and informative and undertook a thorough examination. She sent me through for X-ray and, again, I was seen swiftly by a lovely radiographer. Back to A&E to see the nurse again once the x-ray results were received. Nothing broken, just soft tissue damage, but the service I received was second to none and put my mind at rest. The whole experience took just over 1 hour 45 minutes which I was not expecting! I thought I'd probably be there for the long-haul! All staff were very friendly. Well done SGH.

  7. Review titled A&E and Fracture Clinic

Rated 5 stars out of 5

by Fiona - Posted on 07 January 2023

I attended a&e with my 4year old on New Years Eve. The waiting room was full but we only had a short wait before seeing the traige nurse. She was so wonderful with my son and clear with us regarding possible diagnosis and next steps. Next we went to X-Ray- no-one else was there so we had a very short wait. The radiographer was an amazing young woman who was incredibly child friendly and made my son feel comfortable. Back to a&e and back to the nurse to confirm a broken humerus. Again she was clear with next steps and got my son some pain relief promptly. The Orthopedic doctor then spoke with us - he clearly could see my son was nervous and did not push any questions/ examination that my son wasn't comfortable with. He came to find us in the children's waiting room to give us our appointment letter and his best wishes. Next we had to go back to see the nurses to have a temporary pot fitted, again they were so lovely with my son and even found a lolly and present for him. Friday 6th we had to visit the Fracture Clinic - I was a little lost and wonderful volunteer directed me. Although we had a wait the staff again were so welcoming and the Doctor very clear regarding what would happen. The plaster room staff and health care assistant were great at chatting away to my son whilst he got repotted. Then we went on to X-Ray where again, the staff member was brilliant at talking to my son and calming him. The same staff member from new years eve happened to come into he room and remembered my son and had a lovely quick chat with him. When trying to find the restaurant, two different members of hospital staff stopped and asked if I was ok and directed me in the right way. Overall I cannot fault our experience of Scunthorpe hospital - all staff members were friendly, efficient and did their jobs to a high standard. Thank you for making our first emergency with our son a positive one.

  8. Review titled On its knees

Rated 1 star out of 5

by Adrian - Posted on 25 January 2023

GP wrote to them regarding two different issues. Got a letter about a week later saying they will be in touch but with a 3 month window. It didn't say what issue it was regarding. I called the number on the letter which was wrong. Got passed literally around to 5 different people. Got to the right person who clarified what issue it was pertaining, & who said would you like an appointment which was odd to say the least? I said yes please. She said tomorrow evening? I said yes please and booked it. The next day & 1 hour before the appointment I get a phone call asking if they had cancelled it, and I said no. They said well the doctor has left! Eventually said they would make another appointment with me, but by telephone this time, but couldn't tell me when or how long I would have to wait. Sheer apathy. This. This is why the place is on its knees. I am still waiting to hear about the 2nd issue and its been a month without any contact. If I had another hospital I would definitely go there instead

  9. Review titled Absolutely disgusting

Rated 1 star out of 5

by Anonymous - Posted on 07 August 2024

This past year or so I have been in and out of a+e with Crohn’s disease and gallstones the first couple times I went with extreme pain they was very helpful did everything they needed to then after a while every time I came to a+e I was screaming in pain because they never did anything about my problems not even referring me else were they was shutting the door to keep my quite, shouting at me because I’m “over reacting” I don’t need help it’s just stress causing it, I can’t have these problems at a young age (16) they kept me in a room for 4 days no pain medication no tests no one checking on me I passed out multiple times and the nurses just looked at me, it then took them a year to do my surgery to take my gallbladder out even though I got told I will be in around July 2023 it all started in January 2023 I had my surgery end of January 2024, I had a lot of complications and ended up in a+e a couple days after my surgery and I was ignored once again they put me in fit to sit while it was screaming and throwing up, one of the doctors came to see me and she said she isn’t going to do anything to help me because it’s just stress and I am drug seeking after a while and I told her I’m reporting her she threw her clip board at me and ripped the curtain open and stormed off shouting at me, my mum came out to speak to them and say it’s absolutely disgusting how she treated me, she then came back and gave me medication and got me the scans I needed, it’s been 1year and 8 months since this started I am finally on the right medication to help me, but I still have flares and if I go to a+e I still get ignored I am screaming in pain and every single person in there before me and after me gets seen I don’t even go to triage I am just left there, now even if I’m in extreme pain or have any other problems I stay home and try control the pain cause I feel my family help me more than the hospital do or I go to hull or Grimsby it’s my only other option, I do not recommend Scunthorpe general hospital at all and never will if I get treated like this who else does no one deserves to be treated like that and I would hate to see someone else to go through what I went through.

Having used the NHS services at various hospitals, my experience at scunthorpe emergency department could not have been any better. Lovely clean building, amazing staff. It is a one stop shop, i don't see how it could be improved. Its nice to see such a nice environment for the staff to work in. Thankyou to all the staff who cared for me.
