  1. Review titled Disappointed!!

Rated 2 stars out of 5

by Savani Hansika - Posted on 17 March 2023

my son (7 months old) had a new borne blood spot (nbbs) test on 08/03/2023 at 2pm, in outpatient 6(6944) the nurses try to draw blood and spot it into a specific paper for the test , first time they failed. then they wanted to get blood from my baby’s other heel also, need not to say that it was very painful for the baby and much traumatic . second time also they couldn’t place it properly. Blood went out of the circle again, when I asked they said it’s alright, unfortunately my son’s blood test results came the day before yesterday, saying it’s invalid! after pricking both heels of my baby , yet they couldn’t get it done properly and also they didn’t tell me at that point. now we have to undergo the same procedure again, if not they are asking us to write a decline form from our side!!this is very disappointing , and not fair for my little one to undergo all that again because of their mistake. Both myself and my husband are doctors,so of course we understand it could be much harder with an infant but they should have a proper training for these kind of procedures specifically with little ones…

  2. Review titled Great patient care

Rated 5 stars out of 5

by Anonymous - Posted on 08 March 2023

I was in the day surgery unit on 7/3/23. All the staff were courteous, professional and friendly event though they were very busy. The theatre team put me at my ease. The whole procedure was not as worrying as I thought it’d be. The care I received post procedure was caring too and everything was explained to me before I left. The staff ensured my lift home had arrived before releasing me.

I have been a guest of the EAU and Albury Ward. Without exception everyone is thoroughly professional, friendly and caring. It means that I am relaxed and my stay is stress free. If I do have to be an inpatient of a hospital I cannot think of a better place to be than the Royal Surrey.

I wish to give some well deserved compliments to the team on St Catherine’s ward. I have had both my children there in the past am expecting another in June. I came in on Wednesday 22nd March with pains and vomiting. The team were beyond kind and attentive and I felt totally looked after. Special thanks to Zoe and Julie who were both just so lovely and made me feel so much better even though I felt utterly horrible! It makes me look forward to having my third baby there even more. Keep it up, guys you really are a credit to the hospital

I visited A&E and then was transferred to the Millbridge ward. All members of staff of both departments are extremely kind and very caring, and they really do all they can to be helpful and understanding. I would like to thank them all very much for their humanity and absolute loveliness.

  6. Review titled Great Service

Rated 5 stars out of 5

by Barrie Mundy - Posted on 22 February 2024

I was referred to an ENT Consultant for a lump in my neck early in 2023. Following several inconclusive needle aspirations I was given an MRI scan which showed an anomaly. This resulted in the lymph nodes on the right side of my neck being removed and analysed with cancerous cells being found. A pet-CT scan followed which found the primary site. After radiotherapy treatment and further MRI and PET-CT scans I was given the all clear and referred back to ENT for regular follow up. I would like to thank my consultant and his staff for their professionalism and dedication in diagnosing and successfully treating my cancer.

Being referred to the Insomnia Service has been life-changing. After 13 years of chronic insomnia, I am finally having quality sleep. I know I still have work to do, but I’m so pleased with my progress. I cannot recommend this service highly enough.

  8. Review titled Traumatic hysteroscopy

by Retro - Posted on 02 February 2023

After post-menopausal bleeding on HRT I was referred for a transvaginal scan at the hospital. They sent some leaflets, but as my letter said nothing about a hysteroscopy I didn't take paracetamol beforehand. The scan showed I had thickening of the uterine lining and I was sent to the gynaecology department to talk about the results (I thought). Once there I felt quite pressured into having the hysteroscopy, even though I wasn't prepared. I explained I'd had painful cervical surgery before and had a retroverted uterus and cervix, plus smears were very difficult and painful. The consultant made me worry that I shouldn't wait for a general anaesthetic but get it all done now (as there was a risk I could have endometrial cancer). As soon as I got onto the table I knew I'd made a big mistake. They gave me an injection into my cervix which was excruciating. The consultant struggled to find my cervix and it hurt a lot. When they tried to get the scope in I was crying out in pain. The nurse holding my hand tried distraction techniques, chatting on about holidays, but it was no use. The pain was overwhelming. When the consultant tried to take a biopsy on the pippelle, it was agony. They kept going in again and again and asking their assistant if they'd got enough yet. I felt like a piece of meat. It was barbaric and I couldn't believe this was happening to me. The agony seemed to go on and on. When it was over I was shaking too much to move and they gave me something to drink. I was taken to a recovery room for 20 minutes and given tea and a biscuit. I didn't know I'd have this procedure so hadn't brought any sanitary protection. I was bleeding heavily and shaking but just wanted to call my husband and go home. I somehow got to the toilet and had to use loo roll to mop myself. I was crying and the toilet was full of blood. When my husband arrived I was too traumatised to tell him what had happened at first. I was rocking with pain. I couldn't sleep. In the dark when I remembered what they'd done I'd cry out and weep. I bled for over a week. I couldn't be intimate with my husband for months. I had PTSD flashbacks all the time. It was one of the worst experiences of my life. When I had another bleed a month ago I nearly didn't report it to my GP as I was so so scared I might have to go though this again. But then when I thought about concern my family I knew I should get it investigated. The GP was kind and understanding and gave me an examination. She understood my drama and said she would have to refer me for a hysteroscopy, but this time I could have a General Anaesthetic. I was nervous but I went to meet the gynaecologist team, who were really apologetic and understanding, and I was booked in. I had my second hysteroscopy yesterday under GA and the experience, although nerve-wracking, was so much better. I didn't feel a thing, and I got care and pain relief straight after. I rested for a few hours and then could go home. Today I have minimal bleeding. I wish they'd listened to me the first time round and taken my fears seriously.

  9. Review titled Very caring staff

Rated 5 stars out of 5

by Gary Callaway - Posted on 11 February 2023

I recently had an operation in the Day Surgery Unit and the staff there were amazing. The nurses doctors and theatre staff were so caring and the porters that took me to theatre were ever so friendly. It made what could have been a rather daunting experience so much easier. These lovely people working in very difficult circumstances are not given the credit they are due. I can only say thank you for your dedication.

  10. Review titled Exceptional & Thorough Care

Rated 5 stars out of 5

by Paul Croshaw - Posted on 27 February 2023

After my partner experienced a complication post her Hysterectomy operation, we contacted the Gynae department and received a quick response form the initial team who passed us to the Medical Secretary, who then spoke with the consultant and arranged for her to come into the department. On the day of the visit the team (Med Sec, HCA's, Nurse in Charge & Consultant) in the department were exceptionally caring, attentive and made my partner feel very well looked after. Despite a justified wait while everything was being looked into, a further scan was arrange to identify the complication which in turn resulted in an overnight stay and a minor procedure being carried out to correct the complication. All in all, the experience, although not possibly all pleasant from my partners perspective, was exceptional and I am very grateful that there is great Team in the Gynae department. The additional areas we visited - EAU, EPU & of course the ward teams were excellent as well! Thank you Royal Surrey!
