  1. Review titled Fantastic First Class Team of Medical Professionals

Rated 5 stars out of 5

by Larry Evans - Posted on 05 May 2023

I wish to thank the consultant in charge of the Wonford Endocrinology Clinic and her team of dedicated doctors and specialist nurses who brought me back from the abyss of despair. Their professionalism and care shown to my wife is above and beyond the call of duty. My wife is still under their first class care and we are now able to have Video consultations with the consultant so that we do not have to travel from our home in Braunton unless absolutely necessary. We can, thanks to them, carry on with our lives knowing that the team are there for us. To them all, a very big thank you.

  3. Review titled Wonderful staff- thankyou

Rated 5 stars out of 5

by Francis Stewart Hallam - Posted on 15 May 2023

My wife, Jennifer Hallam, slipped in the shower and opened a large wound to the bone yesterday morning. We were in A&E for a total of 6 hours and our hearts went out to an overwhelmed staff as the wave of patients increased throughout the day. That is the bad news! The good news is that the people who treated my wife, from triage to treatment were of the highest possible quality and completely nullified the frustration of such a long wait. They were cheerful, professional, caring, humorous- in short the very best that you can expect. Britain at its very best! Look after them well!!!

  4. Review titled An astonishing level of care

    by limacj47 - Posted on 08 August 2023

I simply want to record my thanks for the astonishing level of care that I have experienced over the last 7 months of my treatment within a number of the RD & E's (Wonford) Departments. Throughout my various travels between ENT and Oncology via Otter Ward, X-Ray and Dental sections, I have received just the most superb care and attention from every single member of staff, on every occasion, in very different circumstances. How, in a large and super-busy hospital, staff find time to treat patients with such personal attention and genuine care and interest is a credit not just to the individuals themselves but seemingly as a reflection of the culture of the hospital as a whole. I have honestly felt the metaphorical arms of the hospital around me in what hasn't always been the most enjoyable of experiences. Thank you all so much !

  5. Review titled The appointment system seems to be hopeless

    by sambamz68 - Posted on 09 August 2023

I am leaving this feedback on behalf of my wife. This is the second time this has happened. We have a 1.5 hour journey to Barnstaple. We arrived on time with a letter for an appointment at 10.30am only to be told when we got there that they had no record of the appointment-even though we had the letter in front of us. We were then told that my wife had not turned up to a previous appointment in July which had been cancelled to make this appointment in August. The July appointment was replacing an earlier appointment in July which they cancelled as well. This is the second time this has happened-as it happened several months earlier. It is no joke to travel 1.5 hours there and back. Because I was thoroughly fed up they did refund the car-parking and they gave us CO number. The receptionists were fine and they did admit it was their error and it’s not their fault however, the appointment system seems to be hopeless. As another example of the appointment system not working, I went to Exeter hospital a couple of years ago to see a specialist. I had 2 appointments, one for an endoscopy at Tiverton and another for an MRI at Exeter. I then received a letter saying my appointment had been cancelled but not specifying which appointment. I therefore checked with Tiverton and they were expecting me, so I checked with Exeter and they were expecting me so both went appointments went ahead as planned. Had I only had one appointment I would not have turned up. In fact, at Exeter they had no clue a letter had been sent out.

Dear sambamz68 Thank you for taking the time to feedback it is really important for us to be able to improve or services. I can only apologise on behalf of the Trust that you and your wife have had such poor experiences attending the hospital. If you would like us to look into your experiences further please email us on orthopaedicprojectnurses@nhs.net with your wife's name, date of birth and NHS number and put Care Opinion follow up as the subject of your email. Unfortunately I wont be able to follow up your experience from Exeter and Tiverton but thankfully you were proactive in questioning the cancellation letter and preventing further delays for you and wasting two appointment slots. Once we have your wife's details I can ask the Clinic Management Manager to investigate your issues. Apologies again and I look forward to hearing from soon

  7. Review titled Brilliant care

Rated 5 stars out of 5

by Julian Winborne - Posted on 17 April 2023

Had to attend A and E as a result of a critically high blood potassium reading. Was almost immediately triaged and blood tests taken . Dealt with calmly and professionally and always kept informed of what was being done. Staff were very good humoured. Given tea and sandwiches as we had no time to eat at home. Consultant came when the test results were known and explained that all levels were normal and that the initial test must have been an anomaly. He also explained how this could have happened. Absolutely first class actions by everyone involved. My wife and I wish to give you all a big vote of thanks!

  8. Review titled What a wonderful experience at a difficult time

Rated 5 stars out of 5

by Melissa - Posted on 02 May 2023

This is for Wynard Ward. Everyone involved with my care on this ward was just great. I could see it was extremely busy but everything ran smoothly. Everyone was helpful and cheerful, the nurses and all the ward staff, all the theatre staff too. Everything was explained. I had an uncomfortable night following surgery but the nurse looking after me couldn't have been nicer even though she was very busy. What a team!

  9. Review titled Kindness & excellent communication

Rated 5 stars out of 5

by Anonymous - Posted on 04 April 2023

I was admitted in the early hours of last night with acute abdominal pain. From the paramedics to all staff in the A&E everyone was kind and respectful. Although all the tests came back normal the Registrar still had a nagging doubt. On learning I am my husband’s carer and live quite far away she decided to see if a CT scan could be arranged whilst I was still in the building. This was done first thing & actually found the reason for my pain. An ultrasound was then arranged for me tomorrow morning. This is such a fine example of interdepartmental communication & cooperation for the ease of the patient. I congratulate and thank you all.
