  1. Review titled Continuous nose bleeds

    by Kirkgz23 - Posted on 04 April 2023

I had continuous heavy nose bleeds for six days. The last one lasted for 45min. We managed to get an ambulance within 10 min. I was taken to Barnstaple A&E where I might have been sent home, but fortunately a senior doctor attended and another bleed started. He put a balloon in my nostril and I was transferred to Exeter. I wound up in Abbey ward where the the care could not be better. In the end they cauterised the nostril. Painful but in my case no gain without pain. My sincere thanks to all the staff.

  2. Review titled Thank you on and all

    by blackbirdwp54 - Posted on 05 April 2023

This is my view of the care I received under the Acute Oncology Service, Seamoor Unit, NDDH. From my first day until the treatment was finished I was treated with the utmost respect from the reception team to nurses who did my blood pressure and the nurses who completed my treatment and the doctors. At times during treatment I was asked if everything was alright, although the entire team are under extreme pressures at all times, no one is missed. To me the whole team are angels and are of the top order, I cannot fault or find any way I could have been taken care of any better than the care I received. I was in RDE for Radiotherapy for 15 days and was offered the same care from their team, all these people are definite angels. Thank you on and all

Dear blackbirdwp54, Thank you so much for taking the time to give the acute oncology service and the Seamoor unit such fantastic feedback. I am so pleased to hear that you have had a wonderful experience. The teams work very hard to ensure that what can be a frightening time for patients is as smooth and easy as is possible. It is wonderful to hear that you have experienced fantastic care across both NDDH and RD&E. I wish you all the best in your continued recovery. Thank you again for your feedback.

  4. Review titled We are so lucky to have this service

    by Black349 - Posted on 22 March 2023

I was advised to visit A and E after calling 111. I arrived around 1am on Sunday morning - obviously a very busy time. I was triaged very rapidly by an extremely kind and efficient nurse who gave me pain relief. I did have an extremely long wait also because when I finally got to the treatment room it was the doctors handover. However, I understand the wait was due to pressure of work for the staff and I want to say how impressed I was with their compassion, hard work and positive and helpful attitude. I was regularly asked if I needed more pain relief, everyone was extremely kind and apologetic for the wait and I was provided with a cup of tea and sandwich. The staff were incredibly patient and kind with all the patients. We are so lucky to have this service, the hardworking doctors and nurses deserve better.

Your Review: Today I had surgery for Breast Cancer, and I cannot thank my Surgeon, Anaesthetist, and their relevant teams enough. In addition, the nursing team on Knapp ward, especially the excellent nurse, who also makes an excellent cup of tea. Thank you all so much..

  6. Review titled Huge Thank You

Rated 5 stars out of 5

by Michael Clarkson - Posted on 08 March 2023

From the moment I arrived until I was discharged, the treatment I received at every stage for my procedure, and from every person was exemplary. The people who checked me in, the nurses who went through all the pre-op procedures, the anaesthetist, the young doctor from the surgical team, the whole surgical team, the nurses in post-op, the recovery ward nurses and the person who brought me tea and toast. At every stage I was well informed of everything that was going to happen, I felt very comfortable and at ease with my upcoming operation. Please pass on my thanks to everyone, I just wanted to say thank you.

  7. Review titled Poor practice

Rated 1 star out of 5

by Anonymous - Posted on 20 March 2023

Arrived there with ambulance for query sepsis. Tachycardic and overpyrexial (41 degrees), with dizziness, feeling sick, headache. Been there for about 10 hours and left shivering on a chair. There are at least two triage rooms but used for something else and not to assessing the patients based on the severity or care and monitoring requirements. They either don't know or don't care what triage rooms are for. They seems to don't know what medical emergencies are. Or to don't care.

  9. Review titled I felt very cared for in every sense

by Brachyman - Posted on 31 March 2023

I was admitted to the RD&E for brachytherapy. The entire experience was brilliantly managed and my every need anticipated and met. There was a reassuringly calm atmosphere, no one seemed rushed or anxious to move on, spending time answering my questions and needs, even though they were, of course, under pressure. In theatre, the procedure obviously demanded great technical as well as clinical skill, but the staff worked unobtrusively, whilst I was kept supported by the Anaethetist, who was there at my side from start to finish. That consistency of contact was important, because, whilst I was anxious about what was to happen, his presence remained calm and supportive throughout the entire time from initial prep to completion of the procedure (4 hours +) - a familiar face in a time of major anxiety! Afterwards, the Oncologist took time to come and talk to me to see if all was well, to assure me that the procedure had gone well and to ask if I had any questions before I was returned to the ward. The Anaethetist also visited me later in the day to again check that I was ok. On the ward (Yeo and later Yarty) staff were calm, purposeful, cheerful, ever helpful and friendly. They took time to ensure that I felt like a person in their care, and that was true across the full spectrum of tasks. I felt very cared for in every sense. Yes, this is fulsome praise for all involved, but it is well deserved and whilst, of course, I wouldn't want to repeat the experience, the people involved did their very best to make this cancer patient's experience as good as it could possibly be. My heartfelt thanks to all.
