  1. Review titled You are all doing an incredible job

    by matarzd77 - Posted on 20 September 2023

Over the last two weeks I have been seen by the Glaucoma team at Heavitree Hospital, the West of England Eye Unit including the Emergency Eye Unit and Eye Day Case Unit, as well as the Emergency Department and Acute Medical Unit. I have experienced the NHS at its very best and have been very impressed by the care I have received at every stage. From receptionists to surgeons and everyone in between, I was treated with care and compassion, and given excellent clinical care despite the obvious busyness and pressure on the system. Thank you all so much, you are all doing an incredible job and you make me proud to work for the NHS.

Dear Matarzd77 Thank you for your feedback. It is lovely to hear about the clinical care and compassion you experienced during your recent visit to the Glaucoma team. As you acknowledge, NHS services are very busy and to hear you describe the work as 'incredible' is high praise indeed. I will ensure that your feedback is passed on to the team involved. As an NHS staff member, you will be aware how important feedback is. I am sure the team will be very grateful for your kind words. I hope you have a speedy recovery. Kind regards Lisa

  2. Review titled Waiting list for elective sugery

by olliemum - Posted on 15 September 2023

All NHS websites encourage you to look online for length of waiting lists. For orthopaedic services this indicates that the average wait from first hospital appointment to relevant treatment is 23 weeks (it has stated around this for some months as I have been checking). I have today been informed on the telephone that it is actually about 70 weeks. There is really no point having a list online if it is not updated, I feel extremely deflated as I had believed that I was nearing the time and now possibly have another 10 months to wait.

  3. Review titled Excellent Service

Rated 5 stars out of 5

by Martyn - Posted on 19 August 2023

I attended the RD&E, oral surgery ward yesterday for a wisdom tooth removal and also a few weeks ago for a consultation and X-ray. I feel that the service I received from everyone was fantastic. The doctors/surgeons, nurses and reception staff were all professional, friendly and efficient. The NHS gets a bad reputation at times but I really felt that the service I received was second to none and prompted me to leave a positive review. Thank you.

  4. Review titled Excellent as always

Rated 5 stars out of 5

by Garry Perratt - Posted on 10 August 2023

I was impressed with the service on my previous visits to A&E earlier this year so had high expectations and wasn't disappointed. My wait wasn't very long (although the display showed 9-12 hours lead time for a clinician even though my actual wait was about 10 mins!). The doctor was professional, courteous, understanding, thorough and extremely helpful, listening properly to what I had to say without rushing me, and fully-explaining her diagnosis in an holistic sense relating to my condition. I received a first class service.

  5. Review titled Data protection concerns

    by pelicanrx35 - Posted on 18 August 2023

For the second time this week I have attended the Walk In Centre and was booking in at the reception when staff have asked for my name and date of birth, then told me my address. It's a simple rule - Ask Don’t Tell. I challenged this on the second occasion and the reply was flippant. Thanks to the clinicians who were excellent.

  6. Review titled Unnecessary rudeness

Rated 1 star out of 5

by Anonymous - Posted on 07 December 2023

I attended the out patient’s on a weekly basis over a period of several months with my son who is 12 as he had broken his leg and was in a full cast etc. There was a particular member of staff on the reception who was beyond rude and on one occasion almost shouted at us because we asked if it was possible to change an appointment… The 2 health care assistants were also very rude, not approachable and had serious attitude.. no eye contact, dismissive .. we dreaded going to this clinic in the end! What an awful experience!

  7. Review titled Great Hospital

Rated 5 stars out of 5

by Clair - Posted on 28 August 2023

I wanted to leave a review of Exeter Hospital, as I feel that they deserve acknowledgement for the standard of service I received. I was completely blown away by the professional and reassuring staff at the hospital.. who not only put my mind at rest but changed my view of hospitals. After debating for the last six months whether I wanted to go through with surgery and worrying about the level of care that I would receive, all my worries were put to rest from the moment I had my case transferred to Exeter. From the first phone call to arrange an appointment, I was given an email with a link to an app called “my care” which kept me up-to-date, with letters, assessments and records throughout my stay. On the day of surgery, I was very nervous due to a past bad experience with anaesthesia at Torbay and I can say, without shadow of a doubt, my concerns were heard. I was taken care of and sailed through being put under for the operation and came out the other side, not even realising it was all over. The after-care was 2nd to none, nothing was too much trouble from the ladies that clean the rooms to the catering staff and the nurses were fantastic. Just what I hospital should be like. Well done to the team at Exeter and thank you

  8. Review titled Dismissive

Rated 1 star out of 5

by Anonymous - Posted on 02 September 2023

I recently attended the breast clinic as a two week referral, following the discovery of a lump. Following a brief examination by a man who I assumed to be the Consultant, I was sent for an ultrasound. The Consultant who performed the ultrasound was dismissive, stating that he could not see anything. When I asked what the lump could be, he suggested that there was nothing there. Good news but I still have a lump, with no idea what it is. I would have appreciated reassurance but this was not forthcoming.

I am sorry to hear that you had a poor experience during your attendance to the Breast clinic and that you felt there was a lack of reassurance. It is really important for us to receive feedback so that we can make improvements. I have shared your concerns with the teams at Barnstaple and Exeter so that we may reflect on the way we communicate with patients in the future. If you would like to talk with a member of the breast team at either Barnstaple or Exeter, please do call our main hospital number (Barnstaple or Exeter) and ask for the Breast care team.

  10. Review titled Amazing Staff

Rated 5 stars out of 5

by Ruth Fairman - Posted on 04 July 2023

My father was taken to A and E with mental health issues. Even though the wait was long my parents and I were constantly treated with care and respect. We are informed of approx. wait times and processes. Even though it was the early hours of the morning the staff remained good humoured, patient and even fed us. Despite the extreme conditions NHS staff our under currently. They were just amazing. We need to look after the NHS and the people who work within it with the utmost respect they so very much deserve. Thank you.
