  1. Review titled Our minds were put at ease

    by aurigabx86 - Posted on 28 February 2023

We were referred to the Paediatric Assessment Unit for our son. While there, our minds were put at ease and our son was well looked after. After we were discharged, it was really reassuring to know that we could give the unit a call if we had further concerns about our son. This was particularly helpful as it was the weekend and would avoid us calling 111 or visiting A&E. The day after we were discharged, our son became unwell again so we called the Paediatric Assessment Unit who asked us to come back in. We were seen straight away, even though it was a weekend and the team were excellent at reassuring us and helping our son.

  2. Review titled Good process.

by Service User - Posted on 03 May 2023

I walked into A&E with a bad arm. Directed to a nurse; xray, met by a nurse, broken arm, fitted with a brace, xray and left. Week later told needed surgery, a week later saw surgeon, a week later surgery. Then physio and up to me to get it in working order - it is. I like due process and this worked. I was kept informed about the whole process/treatment which is what I require as I like to have agency over my own body and health. Never used any health service before. I can only speak for A&E - it worked for me. Other departments may need a shake up. I think the Clinical/Surgical Decision wards are a very good addition.

  4. Review titled Lovely Staff

by RWestlake - Posted on 12 January 2023

I was in the A&E with my one year old yesterday and I was incredibly grateful for the support I received from all the staff I came in contact with. My little one was extremely distressed and they gave her a teddy, found us a dark room to try and get her to sleep in and even put a cartoon on as a distraction. The doctor and nurses were really helpful and tried to do her obs in ways to avoid further distress, I.e. while nursing. Hospitals are obviously incredibly busy at the moment but they have provided a really high level of care and I can't fault anything about my visit.

  5. Review titled E D department.

by Anonymous - Posted on 02 January 2023

I would like to commend all the staff for the considerable hard work carried out in a very respectful manner. I was at A&E with my 92 year old mother on New Year’s Day Despite the horrendously long wait of over 6 hours to see a doctor!! I cannot fault the staff at all. The pressure they were under was tremendous but each time I spoke to any of the staff, I was answered with with a smile and given a reason for delay , etc. My only complaint is the lack of facilities for people waiting so long. Vending machines broken , so no tea or coffee available. The staff work tirelessly and they definitely need more staff on duty ( if only they could get more staff)!!. But Thankyou everybody who was in A&E on Sunday afternoon/evening for all your hard work. Met some lovely waiting patients as well with young babies who were treated very quickly as you would expect.

  6. Review titled Great labour experience

    by jazzzy44 - Posted on 14 April 2023

I had a fantastic experience in the labour ward at Musgrove Park Hospital. Even though it ended up being an emergency situation, the staff were so kind, calm and took such great care of me, my daughter and my partner. The NICU team also did a fantastic job looking after my daughter. Overall I’m so grateful for everything they did and achieved to keep us both safe.

  7. Review titled Fantastic Care

by Gail - Posted on 23 January 2023

My husband fell on an icy road and sustained a head injury. The ambulance crew arrived quickly and were efficient and caring throughout. We were taken straight to A&E where he received the highest standard of care. All the medical staff were caring and explained everything as we went along. There were no long delays waiting for any of the various steps in his treatment and we were both treaty with absolute courtesy and caring. All the staff made a scary situation less scary

  8. Review titled My son's stay

    by scutumxq54 - Posted on 20 January 2023

My son was admitted to Oak Ward and he was looked after so well. He was so worried about the surgery he had booked in, but they went above and beyond. The lady coming around with games and Lego also went down very well and kept him busy.

  9. Review titled Calm & efficient

by Phillip Peter Manvell - Posted on 11 January 2023

I went to A&E 5 Jan with a bloated stomach. I was immediately impressed by the quiet waiting room and then the efficient way in which I was dealt with by the receptionist and the triage nurse. I was taken to the odu and then admitted. After tests and treatment no operation was needed and I was discharged. At all times I was well treated by efficient friendly staff. Thank you!

  10. Review titled Improvements could be made quite easily

    by fox61 - Posted on 23 February 2023

Most of the staff were friendly - my praise especially goes to a HCA on Hestercombe for their bright, cheerful, happy to help attitude, a porter who was happy, chatty and reasurring even at 10.45pm, and the cleaner on the ward who cleaned all surfaces thoroughly. Room had biscuit crumbs on the floor, tissue, pieces of plastic tubing. Another cleaner mopped over dirt, did not mop bathroom, minimal wiping of surfaces. Bed pans, bowls, wipes left on chairs in bathroom & bedroom. Curtains - only one which did not fit. One light over two beds meant that when my fellow patient wanted lights out at 8 pm I had no light to read by. Refreshments person very off hand with fellow patient because they changed their mind about having tea. For my fellow patient, I think someone could have helped them choose easier to eat food, encouraged them to sit out to eat and cut up difficult food. Food was often cold with items missing. Not very appetising, the waste must be immense. Vegetables were overcooked and swimming in water. Day room - I wasn't informed there was a day room. The TV remote was missing (NB there is a small joystick on the back of the TV but most people would not notice this). The back of the TV was very dusty. Sofa in day room is grubby. Staff using the room as overspill staff room were quite noisy. One of the nurses wore extremely strong perfume which was quite overwhelming. Equipment in corridors under signs saying 'Do not leave equipment here or block access'. A nurse approached me in the day room to remove my canula whilst I was finishing my lunch. I also had a visitor with me and feel this is totally inappropriate. Having said all this I am most grateful for the care I received. I would, however, like better communication of what was happening instead of having to chase staff for updates. I feel improvements could be made quite easily to make a better experience for the patients.
