My other review today on The consultant lead Maternity team was based on our stay yesterday and the day before. My wish is for all the staff involved to see this review and be aware of our deep heartfelt gratitude you are all so professional and amazing!

I have been trying to get in touch regarding my first appointment with the maternity services and at present I haven't been able to speak to some one or leave a message. What a great start to my care, I'm stressed and concerned already.

  3. Review titled No emergency in emergency treatment at Lister A&E

Rated 1 star out of 5

by Danielle Young - Posted on 10 June 2023

i am a 76 year old woman undergoing third round of chemotherapy for stage 3 cancer. i was told by my oncology nurse to go to a&e as badly swollen painful led could be a blood clot and needed to be urgently checked out. arrived at Lister a&e thursday 8 June at13.30. was discharged friday morning at 01.30. 12 hours of waiting in an overcrowded room to be seen for less than 20 minutes by two doctors giving different opinions as to causes of my problem then sent home still not knowing the reasons for my badly swollen leg. A ten miutes ultrasound would have given the answer but instead was told to come back friday morning for a scan. no need for an appointment as referred by a&e. Arrived at 10.30 am, spent ages walking through miles of corridors to find the correct service. Presented myself at about 11am to be told no appointments until Monday. Spent another 3 hours waiting to be prescribed blood thinning injections just in case, to go home and get to welwyn garden city hospital on monday for the scan (or ultrasound- not sure which) Lister a&e should not be allowed to call itself an emergency service. the service there is a joke.

  4. Review titled Interventional radiologist ruined my life

Rated 1 star out of 5

by MaV - Posted on 22 November 2023

i had coil embolisation for varicocele at lister hospital, which was described to me as a “low-risk, non-invasive procedure" to be performed by an interventional radiologist. It left me with disabling and chronic neuropathic pain in the most sensitive areas of my body, i.e., genital and pelvic. i have been given diagnoses of pudendal, genitofemoral and ilioinguinal neuralgias, which are some of the most painful and intractable conditions known. i’ve lost everything, including my job, my savings, my health, and my parents need to look after me (I am in my mid thirties). trusting this hospital, specifically the urologist and the interventional radiologist has been the worst decision I have ever made. consent was gained hastily minutes before the procedure by the interventional radiologist, the risks not highlighted, definitely not chronic pain. i can’t walk, sit, stand, drive or do anything without triggering severe, stabbing pain. the excruciating pelvic pain led to inability to empty my bladder and recurrent infections. if you’re thinking of having this procedure done or trusting this hospital, think extremely carefully - the embolisation ruined my life leaving me in chronic, excruciating pain. of course, I never heard from him again following the procedure, despite requesting support and a post-surgical report several times. he placed about 25 cm of metal coils into my gonadal vein, which was completely unnecessary and did not treat my varicocele at all. i had to arrange a very invasive robotic surgery privately to remove the coils, as they refused to do it. the procedure cost me 25k. stay away from interventional radiology urology at this hospital, there is a reason why the cqc rated this hospital as not safe - they might take your physical, psychological, social and financial wellbeing from you.

  5. Review titled Appointment cancelled 3 times

Rated 2 stars out of 5

by Tatiana - Posted on 09 May 2023

My first referred appointment was on the 28th of April 2023, they cancelled it and moved it to the 12th of May, they cancelled it again and moved it to the 30th of June and today (9th of May) I received a letter of cancellation (again), but this time they haven’t even rescheduled my appointment. I checked to see when they have available appointments and the first available is on September!!! This is unacceptable!

  6. Review titled Great practice

Rated 5 stars out of 5

by Tracey Murkin - Posted on 19 May 2023

I suffer with blepharitis and I was unable to get an appointment at my doctors surgery so I popped into the eye clinic at the Lister. They were so helpful and were able to get me seen the next day. The staff on reception and the nurses in triage were absolutely brilliant. They all appeared to work together and were able help with my eye.

  7. Review titled Bancroft Clinic

Rated 3 stars out of 5

by James Crawford - Posted on 03 May 2023

In my experience of the Bancroft Clinic the staff have been been excellent both the reception and medical professionals. However, on two separate occasions, one at the start of April 2023 and another at the start of May 2023, we have arrived on time for our appointments yet have ended up waiting 1.5 hrs and 2 hrs to be seen by the consultant. I fully accept that these clinics fall behind, however these wait times are not acceptable, you might expect that for a walk-in centre. From observation, there simply does not seem to be a system for managing who should be seen next. I witnessed a few couples arrive after us, yet were seen before, how can this be? We were then told by another doctor that several people had not arrived for their appointments on time and that was why the clinic had gone behind. If that is the case, i don't understand why those that arrive on time should be delayed due to someone who hasn't. In my opinion, the length of waiting times could be reduced a better managed queue/prioritisation process.

  8. Review titled Telephone appointment missed

Rated 2 stars out of 5

by Elaine - Posted on 05 May 2023

I was scheduled for a telephone appointment with a clinician from cardiology on 5 May at 3pm. I received a text a week before asking me to confirm the appointment, which I did, and received an acknowledgment of this text. 24 hours prior to the appointment, I received a further text reminding me of the appointment. At 2.50pm I switched my mobile on and waited for the appointment at 3pm. At 6pm I was still waiting! I left my mobile until 8pm, but still no call. Not even a text to say that my appointment would not be happening. I can only hope that the results of my recent Echocardiogram are not serious, as who knows when I might get another appointment, having waited for over a month since the ECG for it. I have waited in consultants waiting rooms for other appointments in the past but Never more than 2 hours.

  9. Review titled Sdec are the best!

Rated 5 stars out of 5

by Sapphire - Posted on 05 May 2023

I attended A&e with cellulitis. I was dealt with in 8 hours by A&e then referred over to the Sdec unit. Sdec is the best ward. All the staff are cheerful and sweet, they couldn't do enough for me. Smiley, friendly, calming (I get upset in hospital due to my health) and fast. I wasn't left sitting long waiting for a drip it was done really quickly. Nothing was too much trouble and I would be happy to go there again, despite my hatred of being confined to any hospital. They are a wonderful example of how part of a hospital should be run. The Dr was quickly there to see me, the rest of the staff were just so lovely. You guys rock!

  10. Review titled Impressive service

Rated 4 stars out of 5

by Helen Holford - Posted on 06 June 2023

Recent experience in A and E with my elderly Mum was impressive. Not only were we seen speedily, and procedures undertaken rapidly but we were impressed by how respectful all professionals were and how much time we were given, despite the pressures. Thank you.
