  1. Review titled Absolutely excellent experience

by Dansettemajor - Posted on 28 November 2023

Absolutely excellent experience at a time when I was very anxious. From the receptionist, to the nursing staff, the phlebotomist, the anaesthetics team, the Surgical team, the Forward Waiting team, the Theatre team, the Recovery team, the ward team, and housekeeper; they were all fantastic, empathetic, compassionate and extremely caring and professional. I could not have asked for a better team to look after me.

  2. Review titled Remained friendly and assuring throughout

by ChelseaBlue - Posted on 23 November 2023

My visit came about after a routine dental check, where my dentist discovered a large ulcer at the back of my tongue about which I was not aware. She referred me to my local hospital, (Grantham and District) who advised me that, although they believed there was no cause for concern, 100% sure was better than 95%, resulting in my being referred to Lincoln for a biopsy. Understandably, I was anxious about this as most of us are, what will they find, I'm not in control. I needn't have worried. Everything was fully explained before hand, and even at this stage I was given the option not to go ahead. First of all my tongue was numbed by injections (an invigorating experience). After this, I felt very little of what was happening, however, the numbness did not prevent my hyper gagging reflex. The team were very patient with me over this and gave me brief pauses when needed. Eventually, the tissue sample had been taken and it was time for the stitch up. This was slightly problematic as, each time the needle was pushed in to apply the stitches, it was difficult to stop the bleeding despite my not taking blood thinning medication. The result was I finished with my tongue out with a nurse hanging on the end squeezing it with a piece of gauze. This may seem somewhat a light hearted explanation, but in spite of everything, I had been completely put at ease. When the procedure was complete, I was given a support pack with information about what I should do in the coming days, and what action I should take if I had any issues or cause for concern. Now it's a case of waiting for the results, but I'm sure that once the stitches have dissolved, and the discomfort gone, I will be very glad I had it done. A big thank you to each member of the team for their professionalism and the ability to remain friendly and assuring throughout the experience.

  3. Review titled Didn’t help me

Rated 1 star out of 5

by Michael Knight - Posted on 23 March 2024

They ruled out anything life threatening, then sent me back to my G.P. To deal with my allergic rhinitis. I had already tried everything my G.P. suggested before being referred to ENT. I think ENT could have helped me if they wanted to.

    by Rachael392 - Posted on 17 November 2023

At every stage of the procedure it was explained clearly. The procedure was done professionally and all doctors and nurses that were involved were kind, patient and thorough. Aftercare was given and made very clear. I cannot praise them all enough. Thank you so much.

  5. Review titled The staff were amazing

    by stonekq57 - Posted on 12 October 2023

I was taken ill suddenly after attending A&E. I collapsed and passed out. The staff were amazing, but I believe they are under staffed, under resourced and under pressure. Waiting times are ridiculous and I feel they need to be addressed ASAP

by Honeycomb - Posted on 10 November 2023

From administration to discharge every thing went like clockwork. All of the staff, from reception to Oncology to Men’s Surgical Ward, were professional, friendly and exceptionally caring. A safe and caring experience from very knowledgeable and switched on teams. Thanks to all.

  8. Review titled Felt ignored after my surgery

by Molkim - Posted on 17 October 2023

Came in after a 4 year wait, for a gall bladder removal surgery. The before and during care were great, however the aftercare was terrible. The nurse care was non-existent and communication in English was difficult. I was left without any offer of food for hours, and basically ignored. I was supposed to have a blood thinner injection at 5pm which wasn’t given and only picked up when a doctor noticed it had not been given later on. Out of the two nurses on duty, not one of them spoke to me, other than to ask my name and DOB, and that’s when I had to ask them for pain relief. Not the standard of care I expect from my NHS. Feel free to contact me if you want further info as like I stated earlier, the before and during care were great! It was the aftercare that was dismal. I just felt left whilst they appeared to order to tend to others on the ward or chat away to their colleagues.

  9. Review titled Mixed experience after emergency surgery

by Painedpatient - Posted on 13 October 2023

I arrived Monday via ambulance and had been pre-admitted from Grantham waited two hours to be examined, when examined the consultant was abrasive, kept telling me to relax whilst I was experiencing severe pain and and cramps. Was told I needed a scan and would get one in the morning. Tuesday, was told wouldn't get scan until late that evening, they did manage to find an earlier slot and had one at lunch and the report would be ready in minutes. Report was not done and had to be chased up by consultant as nurses had tried. Wednesday lunch report from scan was finally done and I was told I needed emergency surgery due to internal bleeding, the consultant on that day was lovely and caring along with the anaesthetist. Had surgery at 5:45pm . Did not have vitals or observations done throughout the night this can be confirmed by my partner who spent the night with me. Pain relief had to be requested and was not offered. I did request every few hours. Thursday asked nursing staff and consultant if partner could stay another night and was told he could, he had been taking me to the bathroom and helping as I was very wobbly. 10:30pm a nurse came in and kicked him out despite me telling her that he had been allowed to stay by other staff but still ordered him to leave. Her reasoning being it that it was a female only ward and mainly female staff and they didn't feel safe both me and him were offended by. That evening at 11pm my bed was changed for the first time since arriving, it had blood stains on from blood being drawn on Tuesday. Friday was discharged was not told anything about what to expect post op, and was told that the hospital would be in touch to book a scan 1 week post op to make sure everything was ok, it is now over a week and I have called to follow up and I get told to ring other departments and half the time phone just keeps ringing. Other notes but can't remember days: asked for pain meds as I was due, took two hours and multiple calls on the buzzer. It took them 20mins to come to a nurse call on buzzer. Would ask for water and they'd forget so would have to ring again after waiting an hour. When I asked for water member or staff rolled her eyes and sighed. There were some lovely members of staff that were helpful, kind and compassionate, unfortunately this wasn't the majority.

  10. Review titled Quality of care and communication was not followed up in the ward

by Free spirit - Posted on 09 November 2023

Very dubious about having my surgery at Lincoln, due to lack of care of both my elderly parents in previous years. I arrived feeling optimistic though. The theatre & anesthesia team were 2nd to none and they went above & beyond to give me excellent care. In surgery I was told every step of what was going to happen & had the most amazing team of doctors and nurses in theatre & the recovery room. I cannot thank them enough & a special mention to my recovery nurse, who was so understanding & caring. I'm afraid to say the level of care was not as good when I went to a ward. After an overnight stay, I was taken out my bed to sit in the corridor for over 5 hours, even when my bed wasn't even filled for hours after being out in corridor. This is not ideal after having an operation on the foot, which should have been kept elevated. Poor care & attention regarding this, I feel. I then heard 2 bed managers praising the nurse for freeing up so many beds, saying the nurse had done them a favour and gave them a sweet for it! All well and good for emptying beds, but not at the expense and comfort of a patient really, is it? My overall experience in theatre was 2nd to none, but it's a shame this quality of care and communication was not followed up in the ward.
