  1. Review titled Endoscopy Clinic

by lincolncockney - Posted on 21 December 2022

I attended the clinic after my appointment was rearranged to make room for an emergency which I completely understand and the people who contacted me from the booking office were very polite and friendly The staff at the clinic itself couldn't be any more professional or friendly. From the moment I entered the clinic I was treated with dignity and respect which made a slightly uncomfortable procedure so much better. The report that I received after my appointment was very clear and helpful and I cannot think of any way in which this service could be improved

  2. Review titled Disgusted

Rated 3 stars out of 5

I had an appointment with Cardiology at 5pm on 22nd December. I was 10 miles in to my appointment when I received a call to say it had been cancelled as the doctor had gone home sick. I have heard nothing since despite my calling 3 times. If I had cancelled the appointment I could understand it but because it was cancelled when I was on my way I would have expected another appointment quickly or at least some kind of communication.

  3. Review titled I received outstanding personal service and care

    by orangexp49 - Posted on 31 December 2022

I had a colonoscopy at Lincoln County Hospital and was fairly anxious about the whole process and worried that I might be wasting the hospital's time, despite being referred. However, from the moment I arrived until I left I received outstanding personal service and care. I did not once feel like I was causing a fuss, and the nurses, healthcare support worker and doctor doing the procedure could not have made more effort to manage my pain, discomfort and embarrassment. I felt listened to throughout and everything was explained so well. They offered extra pain relief whenever needed, and I can genuinely say that I am not sure I would have been able to complete the procedure without their gentle coaching. They have allowed me to access the ongoing care I need, and I just want to say a HUGE thank you! At a time when I know the NHS is under strain, for them to have made me feel so personally cared for, valued and respected I am incredibly grateful and they are all a credit to their professions!

I am so pleased that your time with us in Endoscopy was positive, and that the staff you met were caring and respectful. Having a hospital procedure can be a very anxious time; our staff on Endoscopy are aware of this and take extra care to ensure your journey through endoscopy is pleasant. I will pass on your praise and thanks to the team, which I am sure will be appreciated. We really value feedback from our patients and it is such a boost for morale when we hear that our efforts have made a difference for a patient, especially in these challenging times for the NHS. 4. Review titled My experience at Lincoln County Hospital

    by T Taylor - Posted on 13 January 2023

I had an accident which caused me to be taken to Lincoln Hospital. Firstly, the paramedic was brilliant, putting me at ease and going through everything, explaining what was happening and putting me at ease. The ambulance crew were excellent in my treatment before taking me to hospital at Lincoln, all was very smooth, not at all stressful in my passage through to A&E, where I was treated really well. The nurses, even though they were busy, gave me the time needed, didn't feel rushed at all. Then onto the ward where I was assessed, this again the staff were outstanding in the way they went about their work, it was like clockwork the way they cared for all the patients, taking time for each person, no matter how busy. I have nothing but praise for everyone involved in my treatment. I thank Everyone at the hospital I came into contact with.

  5. Review titled Attendance with urine retention post surgery

    by Cb92 - Posted on 08 December 2022

I was seen in A&E, where I received great care, and I was referred to Gynaecology for urine retention post-surgery. The Gynaecology registrar said they would come and view me in A&E by 6 p.m. (5 hours later) by 7.30 p.m. nobody had been so the nurse contacted them again, to which a different doctor had come on duty and knew nothing about my referral because the day doctor had not handed me over. I was then sent up to Branston Ward, where I waited another 3 hours to see a doctor. I was aware there was an emergency ongoing on the ward, which I fully appreciate. However, by this point I was in complete urine retention and in significant pain. I escalated to 3 members of staff I was unable to pass urine and this was now causing me pain, to which they stated nothing could be done at the moment, it was only once I was crying in pain and my family had to ring the ward to find out what was going on a member of staff finally came in to see me. I fully appreciate the ongoing emergency on the ward. However, I feel there must have been some staff caring for the rest of the patients on the ward who could have come to see me and started making a plan towards getting me sorted! And also if the doctor hadn't forgot to hand me over in the first place I wouldn't have been left in this position.

  6. Review titled The surgery and aftercare were excellent

    by Tomst98 - Posted on 03 February 2023

A tumour on my colon was identified by a colonoscopy on 12.9.22. I was placed on a pathway leading to surgery and this happened on 29.12.22. Throughout this process, I had the feeling that my condition was being carefully planned and monitored by experts. On admission to hospital, the surgery and after-care were excellent. Despite the criticism currently being directed at the NHS, my experience has left me feeling that I have had excellent treatment and I have written to ULHT to express my gratitude for the way I have been treated by staff throughout the process.

  7. Review titled The care here is outstanding

    by KM92 - Posted on 24 November 2022

I was referred through to Branston Ward at Lincoln County Hospital due to a suspected ectopic pregnancy. The staff have been absolutely amazing. They are compassionate, supportive and professional. Each and every member of staff I met did nothing but make me feel welcome and safe. The care here is outstanding.

  8. Review titled Lack of communication following my operation

    by foxtrotfd64 - Posted on 24 November 2022

Everything up to the operation to have my gallbladder removed was fine, however I am not happy with the lack of communication I’ve had regarding after care. I’ve never had an operation before so I don’t know what to expect when it comes to changing dressings, if my stitches need to be removed or are dissolvable etc. Before I left I asked when I could take my plasters off as they was extremely bloody to which the nurse said I need to change them after 48 hours. They then gave me what I thought was dressings. I’ve just gone to change them now as it’s been 48 hours to notice I’ve just been given some sticky clear plasters. I don’t believe I should be sticking anything to my stitches. So now I’m trying to contact my GP but they won’t help me as they don’t know what I’ve been advised. I’ve tried to ring the hospital and nobody is answering the phone. I am appalled with this. I should of been told by the nurses how to care for myself after the operation, I was too exhausted and still not fully with it after having the operation to ask these sort of questions.

  9. Review titled I owe my life to the team who cared for me

by reethebee - Posted on 11 November 2022

I was in extreme pain, rang 111 and due to an efficient and effective responder a call was made for paramedics to attend. They were professional yet friendly and helped me to cope with my pain. They got me to hospital where after 45 minutes I was able to get into a separate Covid room at A&E. During that evening I had an x ray and a scan. The latter identified 2 blood clots on my lungs and that my heart was under strain. I was immediately taken to a ward and received emergency treatment. Doctors explained the issues and risks to me throughout and the nurses provided excellent care and support the whole time I was at the hospital. All the staff were courteous and helpful. I received such excellent treatment and care that I was home within the week. I have some recuperating to do now but owe my life to the excellent work of the team who cared for me. [Very happy with 'Environment'] [Very happy with 'Transport'] [Very happy with 'Staff attitude'] [Very happy with 'Staff skills'] [Very happy with 'Team work']

  10. Review titled Assumption led care causes significant harm.

Rated 4 stars out of 5

by Dan Marshall - Posted on 13 December 2022

Admitted for fast AF and staff in a&e were told of my extreme and complex ptsd (Not allowed words in capitals, even acronyms apparently). Advised to keep me informed of all aspects of my care and answer, even really stupid questions. a&e staff nurse (?) spotted me as ex military and grilled me about my military service. Asked him to stop as he was causing me significant distress, then I told him to stop when he carried on, then I really told him to stop when he started making machine gun noises and pointing a fictitious gun at staff and patients. Other staff saw my distress and rescued me with the phrase "leave him the f*** alone...". So, moved to meau where I became significantly unwell. meau stands for Medical Emergency Assessment Unit, the key word being assessment. This, under normal circumstances, would be self evident but, in fast af for almost two weeks, going rapidly downhill and unable to properly understand the process or the acronym I was left getting more and more ill and asking why I wasn't being treated. Long story short, the meau doesn't treat issues unless they're immediately life threatening. No one told me so I became more and more distressed at being, as I saw it through the PTSD, ignored. I asked many questions but my time on the ward was appalling, all the staff needed to know was that I simply needed to understand the process and this is exactly what my wife told them. Onto another ward where a Dr spoke with me about their war experiences and childhood. Again, it took several goes to get my distress across in order to shut them up. Now we move to Cardio Short Stay. Crowded, dark and unpleasant, but the staff were awesome. I again told them about the ptsd and they were so understanding and helpful I almost booked a return trip. So, that's it. Overall a really unpleasant experience that ended well. And, now, how do you fix this? Staff training to address ptsd issues, from whatever source, so I don't have to watch a senior nurse machine gun staff and patients. This person was clearly well known to other, more junior staff so listen to their feedback and complaints and do something about it. Keep patients properly informed about their care journey. A simply "This the meau and you won't be treated here." Or "We use this ward to determine your best treatment, we'll address any emergencies but can't give you specialist care such as the wards can provide." But most of all, people with ptsd aren't rare. We perhaps all think we're unique and that's how the hospital should treat us, whoever we are. But most of all, listen to the patient. Not just the words but the distress they display, listen to them when they clearly don't hear you and treat them with unconditional professional and personal respect from the moment of admission to discharge, and after.

I am sorry to hear of your experience while a patient on MEAU. During your stay on MEAU you should have been receiving treatment while waiting for a bed on the specialist cardiac ward you were later moved to. I will be speaking to both nursing and medical staff to ensure that they are communicating with all patients on their treatment so they are aware of what is happening and questions are answered.
