  1. Review titled Heartfelt thanks to the whole team

by Dizzi - Posted on 15 May 2023

I was referred to the breast clinic by my doctor who thought she felt something in the area of mastectomy I had over four years ago. As I had waited four weeks for the appointment I was very nervous of the outcome. Soon after arriving I was examined by a doctor, had a mammogram and an ultrasound scan then saw the same doctor again who reassured me to my enormous relief, that all was well. I cannot speak too highly of the treatment and care I received from every member of the breast team. Before I left, the doctor told me that if I had any concerns in the future I was to contact the Breast Clinic directly which of course would have saved me weeks of worrying had I known this was possible. Heartfelt thanks to the whole team for your care and sensitivity. Well Done !!

  2. Review titled Impenetrable appointments booking system

Rated 3 stars out of 5

    by U12001041 - Posted on 20 April 2023

I was referred to Maxillo Facial by Dermatology in August 2022, having had a basal cell carcinoma excised satisfactorily. The Dermatology team were excellent, and while there were delays these were within reasonable bounds. An appointment was made for M F treatment at Lincoln County Hospital for October. This was cancelled ‘due to unforeseen circumstances’ and an alternate date of 17th November was given. This too was cancelled ‘due to unforeseen circumstances’, with no new date being given . At the end of December I had heard nothing further and chased this up, spending many fruitless hours doing so, and eventually by letter dated 9 Feb was given an appointment at Grantham for tomorrow, 21 April. On 9th March this too was cancelled ‘due to unforeseen circumstances' with no further date being given. Today, 6 weeks later and the day before the 3rd cancelled appointment, having heard nothing about a new appointment I attempted to speak to the Appointments Service (who left no direct number on their letter). This took over an hour with 3 intermediate calls, one unanswered, and when I finally got through; I just got an answering machine. I asked for a call back, but have heard nothing. I am still waiting. Conclusion. While I understand and sympathise that you are under pressure, and have no doubt that Care and Treatment will be excellent if and when I receive it, why are your booking systems so lengthy, impenetrable and lacking in transparency? Your ‘System’ is wasting huge amounts of patients’ time trying to get simple answers which should be forthcoming on a short enquiry, causing frustration and in my case extreme anxiety. I have had 3 strokes; this is not good for my blood pressure In particular why do you not publish average waiting times, as other hospitals do, eg Addenbrookes? At least patients would know where they stood. Three times appointments have been made and then cancelled ‘due to unforeseen circumstances’, twice leaving me in uncertainty as to when I will receive treatment, if at all. I am sure it is not a deliberate ploy to fob people off, to avoid facing up to the inadequacies of your systems. To have to cancel one appointment ‘due to unforeseen circumstances’ may regarded as a misfortune, to lose two looks like carelessness. But three? How do other hospitals manage? Perhaps someone could look into it

Firstly, may I apologise on behalf of ULHT for your poor experience and any anxiety this has caused you. We are continually reviewing the main Outpatient telephone systems so I am sorry that on the occasions you tried to contact the appointments team the process failed, and that you did not receive your requested call back. Unfortunately I am unable to be more specific about your appointment cancellations without further details, but if you are willing to share these with myself or our PALS team I would be happy to investigate. For average wait times you can visit My Planned Care NHS which contains the details for Maxillo Facial at ULHT. 3. Review titled Angry, frustrated and let down

    by bargainsm74 - Posted on 20 April 2023

I was scheduled to have surgery to repair a double Inguinal hernia in April. Having fasted from 6pm the day before as per my instructions I arrived on the Surgical admissions unit at 6:45am and booked in. Approximately 2 hours later I was called through to go through my pre op procedures. This involved answering multiple questions, having my BP taken, then bloods followed by an ECG. I was also visited by an anaesthetist, a surgeon, and another doctor. Everything about my procedure was explained and I was given the choice of either a general or local anaesthetic; I chose general. All this took about 45 mins and I was then returned to the waiting room. I have to say at this point that the staff I had dealt with thus far were all very friendly, helpful and professional. On my return to the waiting area where I waited patiently as requested to be walked through for my procedure. Hour after hour passed with no communication from any staff until just after 5:00pm when the surgeon who was performing my procedure came into the waiting accompanied by a Sister and asked me to follow him. At last I thought here we go. However I was taken to a side room where the surgeon apologised and informed me that my procedure would not be going ahead as they had run out of time and told that they would try to get me back in within the next 4 weeks. I will give credit to the surgeon as they wanted to be the one to break the bad news and not send someone else as they could of done. However a bit of a heads up earlier might made it easier to take the bad news as after all I had been on the unit for ten hours and had not eaten since 5:30 the previous day and by now I was both tired and hungry. Despite feeling angry and extremely frustrated I remained calm and left the unit, phoned my partner who came to collect me. The frustration and anger is born out of not only having the procedure cancelled having first spoken to my GP some 18 months ago but my partner had used annual leave for four days to be at home for the start of my recovery which has now been wasted. The delay also means events we have organised including at least two weekends away may now be in jeopardy dependent on when I now have my surgery How am I feeling? - put simply angry, frustrated and let down.

Dear bargainsm74 I am really sorry to hear that your operation was cancelled, please be assured that we take all steps to prevent any patients being cancelled. unfortunately on the occasion the list did not run to plan due to complications which meant that list ran out of time. Sometime ago we introduced regular on the day wealth fare checks for patients waiting for their surgery in the Surgical Admissions lounge. I can only apologise as it seems this process had broken down on this day, going forward we will review the process to prevent this happening again, so all patients receive regular updates and wealth fare checks. Again apologies this has happened, the team on SAL pride themselves in making sure all of our patients journey through SAL is to a gold standard, please be assured we will make changes to prevent this happening again. 4. Review titled I have nothing but gratitude and admiration

by Boobar Buttercup - Posted on 25 May 2023

I went into the Day Surgery Unit at Lincoln to have a lump removed from my breast for biopsy purposes to determine whether cancerous or not. The subject alone makes it a very worrying and traumatic time, but from the time I entered the unit until I left in the evening the whole team whom I met throughout my procedure made me feel calm, always kept me informed of what was going on and treated me as though I was the only patient they were treating that day. I therefore have nothing but gratitude and admiration to send to them all.

  6. Review titled I felt no bedside manner

    by plutoxy43 - Posted on 15 March 2023

Way I was treated by staff on ward SAL at Lincoln county hospital. they didn't seem to care, the lack of communication was dire, I had to have my gallbladder out and all the preparation of phone calls and from Langton ward stated firmly I was to stay admitted overnight due to me being without support or care at home as I live on my own and they ignored this. I'm classed as a vulnerable adult with learning disabilities that was all ignored as well by certain staff. I appreciate it's a busy ward but I think nurses forget that it may all be routine for them and done things a million times, but it's not for patients. I think they can forget patients may need the bedside manner, explanations, the empathy and respect and care it's why a lot when into nursing in the first place. we are human too and have emotions and stresses and aniexties as well as I'm sure they do. I know staff are going through a lot it's all on the news but when dealing with patients you have to shut away all that and look after the patients and treat them with respect. I ended up twice once in recovery and the other in Sal ward having a bad reaction and finally they said they would keep me in. I actually had to in tears tell one nurse how they were making me feel. I felt they were extremely pushy with me ordering me to do this and that which I did. I felt no bedside manner or respect and they ended up in front of me and others arguing with another staff member of staff, highly disrespectful, rude and bad mannered as well as unprofessional.

  8. Review titled I have only one word to describe my care: excellent

    by Lunar2022 - Posted on 06 April 2023

I was unexpectedly admitted as an emergency to Oncology Assessment Ward. My choice of alternative treatment was treated with respect and I found the ladies on duty to be thoughtful and caring of my feelings; they didn't have to be, they have their job to do but, yes, they displayed concern for my feelings too. Thereafter, I was admitted to Waddington Ward for observation and treatment. I have only one word to describe my care: excellent. I will not name staff, but each and every one gave amazing care. Although busy at times, when they were able to they took time for a quick conversation. Nothing was too much effort for them. As a carer myself, I found it a different experience to be on the receiving end of care which mirrored how I do my job. (Big Thank You to all staff xx) The Daily menu : Brekkies : cereal, toast. Lunch : soup, meat, vege, dessert; sandwich or something light for Tea. Tasty food; although I chose small portions, I still managed to gain weight LOL. TV programs available in my room were same as at home, so didn't miss any Reality shows.

  9. Review titled Outpatient appointment at the Endoscopy unit

    by Baggies19336 - Posted on 10 March 2023

I attended the Endoscopy Unit and the care that I received from every member of staff I encountered was superb, very caring, informative, understanding, friendly, treated with dignity and apologised for the unexpected delay, as a colleague working in the Trust it's very reassuring that this care whilst attending the unit is made aware to them how thankful I was for the way I was treated.

Rated 5 stars out of 5

It was my second visit to the Urology Investigation Suite and once again I was treated perfectly by friendly, caring staff who didn’t rush me through, they took the time to ask me about symptoms, explained what was going to happen and gave me the result’s straight after. A really lovely, friendly team. I was really nervous about the procedure but each time they managed to make me feel at ease! Thank you.
