  1. Review titled The consequences of not going could be far worse.

    by mineralsk84 - Posted on 27 July 2023

Not the most dignified or comfortable of things to be doing of an afternoon and I was naturally a bit apprehensive about the whole thing. However the staff in the unit went out of their way to make me feel less anxious and embarrassed. Always friendly without being too familiar they kept me informed at every stage of the process by being very clear about what was happening before during and after the colonoscopy. I’m not saying it will be painless but it was nothing like as bad as I was expecting it to be in fact the preparation during the two days previously was worse than the actual procedure itself. If you have had a positive screening test don’t put off going for the procedure the consequences of not going could be far worse. The staff really were very understanding and kind. A credit to the hospital.

Thank you also for saying that despite all the anxiety and preparation, it is worth getting the test done for peace of mind and that the staff are expert in putting patients at ease at a time that can be frightening, embarrassing and uncomfortable. Glad your experience was comfortable and I will let the staff know Best wishes Matron Cathy

  3. Review titled An absolute waste of a morning

    by jackpotzd55 - Posted on 27 July 2023

Lincoln County Hospital- Clinic 8, had eye drops put in & was sent back to waiting room. After 2 hours I still hadn't been called in to see the doctor. I queried with the receptionist & they said they would check. When I was eventually called in 2.5 hours after my appointment time, the doctor said my notes had been misplaced & they didn't know I was waiting. The doctor blamed it on bank staff putting the notes in the wrong place. Then the doctor said because I'd had drops in I couldn't have my vision tested so this was an absolute waste of a morning which I had to take annual leave from work for. I was told I would be sent another appointment in 4-6 weeks - which, again, I will have to use annual leave for, and it is difficult to arrange time off at short notice from my work.

Dear jackpotzd55 All patients upon arrival into Clinic 8 are arrived on the computer package KIOSK. This enable the patient's progress through the department to be mapped and the clinicians to be made aware that their patients have arrived in the department. They will then have their vision checked in the vision channels and then depending on whether they require any scans before the eye drops are administered, they either have their diagnostics and then have their eye drops administered or in the absence of any further tests, are administered prior to leaving the vision channels. These drops are prescribed either in the paper notes or directly onto Medisight prior to the patient being called forward for their vision checks. The patients then wait in the waiting area until they are called forward by the clinician. Ophthalmology has the luxury of an all-encompassing computer package 'Medisight', which has all of their Ophthalmic history stored within and this then places less reliance on their paper notes. In other words, the patients can still be seen in clinic even if they have only a temporary set or no medical notes. The signs which inform patients to notify the receptionist if they have been waiting for a long period were not visible when I visited the clinic this afternoon. or was the monitor, which gives the same message, turned on, so I cannot confirm whether it was in use when the patient attended. I have asked the receptionist to make sure that the signs are clearly visible in all areas of the waiting room to prevent patients having a similar experience in the future. Please pass on my apologies for the poor experience they received on their recent visit, the complaint will be shared with the Clinic 8 staff to enable lessons to be learnt. If they would like to contact me when they are rebooked into Clinic 8, I would be happy to ensure that their journey through the department and the experience on the day is in line with the Trust's Values and Standards. Kind regards, Louise

Not a nice procedure in any way but the doctor and nurses were so amazing , I felt supported and safe in their care. My dignity was respected but at the same time the friendly banter was greatly appreciated. Cannot fault them or the efficiency of the whole department. Thankyou.

  7. Review titled Bad A&E experience

    by Meg625 - Posted on 27 July 2023

I had a partial nephrectomy at Leicester General Hospital. I was told all had gone well and was discharged 4 days later. 4 days after this I felt unwell with a temp, bloated abdomen and lack of energy. I rang 111 and was advised to go to A&E. I went into Boston Pilgrim Hospital A&E. I sat all day with a paramedic consult, an x-ray and then a CT scan. 12 hours later it was decided I may have a perforation of bowel, I may have a punctured lung, I may have a leak of urine or blood from the operated kidney. With no urology dept at Boston, it was decided I should be transferred to Lincoln. At midnight this happened, after 16 hours in Boston A&E. I arrived at Lincoln at 1 am. Here I was left in A&E sitting in a chair with no back to it, so could not rest my head back all night (now into day 10 post op). I then sat the whole of the next day and until 11:45 that night, at which point I was taken to a ward. This was a total of 39.75 hours in A&E, nil by mouth just in case. A kidney issue, but no drink for the whole time, until a lovely ,caring health care support worker took pity on me, rung Urology and got permission to give me something. Bless them. All care once on the 2 wards I was on was very good, but the hellish experience of A&E will live with me for some time to come.

Dear Meg625 We apologies for your long wait in A&E at Pilgrim hospital, the service has been under immense pressure and this has caused delays for our doctors making decisions for some of our patients. We are continuously working on improving this. It is however, important for these doctors to ensure that patients receive the right care from the right speciality service, and in this case urology services are based at Lincoln county Hospital. This would involve transferring patients via EMAS, the wait for these transfers are not in ULHT control. I cannot comment on the care at Lincoln as this in not where I am based. Kind regards, Vikki Hoadley Sister

  8. Review titled Concerned about consultant's reaction

    by compassion74 - Posted on 20 July 2023

I attended a gynaecological appointment on the cancer pathway after a 2 week wait, following a smear test that revealed a "growth" on my cervix and what I thought was a post menopausal bleed as well as hip and groin pain. The smear was a follow up after a smear the previous year that revealed the HPV virus. It was an incredibly anxious wait for the appointment as your mind runs away from you when you are referred on a cancer pathway and you convince yourself (despite being a very rational human being) that you have cancer and what the consequences of this could be to you, your family, work etc. On arrival to the unit I was met by a very smiley receptionist who directed me where to wait. After a while I was called through to the consultation room by a lovely nurse who could see that I was very nervous and tried to reassure and comfort me. There were 3 other members of staff in the consultation room, including the gynaecologist. When the consultant asked me about why I was there I mentioned about the growth and that I was in the menopause. Straight away the consultant said I couldn't be in the menopause as I was too young and that I was probably peri-menopausal. This was without any knowledge of my medical history (I've been on HRT in the past year). Thankfully after a very painful examination it was revealed that the "growth" was in fact a cyst and there was no treatment required (much to my relief). Following the consultation I can't stop thinking about the consultants reaction to menopause. If a Gynaecologist can't accept that a woman in her forties is in the menopause (normal menopause age 45-55. average age of menopause 51 years old) then what hope have women got! I feel it is bad enough the GP's have no idea about menopause, but not a Gynaecologist!

  10. Review titled I still don't know what my options are

    by empathyxk69 - Posted on 20 July 2023

I attended the breast clinic at Lincoln county hospital in June 2023. My appointment was the first of the day but I was still kept waiting 15 minutes over the appointment time. I was expecting to have an examination, possibly a scan and then talk to a doctor about surgery. This did not happen, I was escorted to the waiting room for the scan by a lovely healthcare support worker, they were very kind and chatty and welcoming. I thought this was great as they were just cracking on with it to see if my lump had got bigger. I had a few minutes wait until I was called into the scan room by a different healthcare support worker, again they were lovely and welcoming. I got into the scan room and the healthcare support worker asked me politely to take my top half off and sit on the couch. The doctor who was already in the room didn't make eye contact with me they were turned around with their back to me putting my notes on the side. They told me to lay on the table, then when they spoke again it was more like a demand to move up the bed. No please, no thank you, no eye contact again. I started to feel a little uneasy as they were very abrupt and came across rude. They did the scan, did not speak to me at all. Cleaned the probe and said you can wipe yourself and call your GP for results. That was it, they took my notes off the side and walked out. I asked the healthcare support worker if that was it? I was expecting to see the doctor to discuss surgery as that was the plan last time I had a check up, and asked if I just go home now? The healthcare support worker tried to answer my many questions that I had but obviously they were just the escort so didn't know anymore than I did. They made the effort to make me feel a bit better. I had spent the past few days worrying about needing another surgery and weighing up the pros and cons and getting in my head the questions I wanted to ask the doctor, all to not even see or have a conversation with the doctor. I came away feeling very upset that I still don't know if my lump is bigger and if I need surgery, I still don't know what my options are. And quite frankly after the experience I had with the doctor that scanned me I don't really want to go back to the clinic.
