Just had a cataract procedure this morning, made to feel comfortable in a very calm environment. The staff are amazing from pre med to finish. A very big thank you to everyone, I’ll see you in a few weeks for the other eye. Can’t thank you enough.

  2. Review titled Excellent care

Rated 5 stars out of 5

by Pamela Copeland - Posted on 01 March 2024

Attended A&E minors today after a fall while on a recent holiday. The service I received from start to finish was excellent. The consultant who looked after me was friendly, efficient and clearly explained treatment for my injury. ( Sorry I forgot his name) The whole visit took two hours... I'd expected to spend the day there! Thank you.

  3. Review titled First class treatment

Rated 5 stars out of 5

by Christine Kimpton - Posted on 13 March 2024

Having had an operation on 30th September by an excellent surgeon I have received first class treatment for many months from all staff mainly the staff nurse and other nurses who treated my wound with the utmost care and attention. The staff nurse who treated me was always friendly and made me feel at ease at the same time being very professional. It’s been a long haul with the healing process but now coming to an end and it’s all down to the most caring staff nurse and other nurses who have treated me through these months. I can only show my appreciation by saying a very big thank you to the Orthopedic clinic and the brilliant staff who work in this department. Thank you

  4. Review titled Waiting time of 40 weeks plus

Rated 5 stars out of 5

by Anonymous - Posted on 02 April 2024

I was referred by my GP on 18 March 2024 the letter and NHS app both said don't progress until 25th March. Today 2 April I find out that although the NHS app says no triaged yet that is not the case. A consultant has looked at referral and decided without discussion with me that I'm not urgent and the waiting time will be at least 40 weeks. I was told by booking that you are still dealing with patients like me from August 23. How can this be any service whatsoever? I don't recall being allowed to with hold NI contributions when interest rates went to 18% in 70s.

Dear patient, The wait time for routine first appointments in Gastroenterology are now at approximately 8 weeks so I apologise if the information you received was incorrect. Regarding the consultant triaging your referral as routine without consultation, this is standard practice and is based on the clinical detail in the initial referral from your GP. If you feel that your referral needs to be dealt with urgently, you would need to contact your GP so they can get in touch with the service to expedite the referral. We have been providing additional clinic capacity in gastroenterology over the past few months to bring down the waiting time for patients, as we understand how frustrating it is to have a long wait to be seen. Kind regards, Leila Griffiths Service Manager- DMEC

  5. Review titled Worse than awful

Rated 1 star out of 5

I attended A&E on the recommendation of NHS 111 after not being able to manage my pain with GP prescribed medication. I attended for severe back and abdominal pain with an idea of what the GP suspected the issue to be. My GP also said to go to A&E should my condition worsen as I am at risk of something rupturing. During triage I was asked what my pain was on a scale of 1 to 10 and I said 8. I did not feel like I was being listened to. I had my blood pressure done and was sent back to the waiting room. After 2 or so more hours of sitting on the hard chairs as well as standing whilst being bent double with the pain, I had to knock on the door and practically beg for pain relief with tears running down my face. Pain knocking on a 10 at this point. Not once was I asked if I was okay. A nurse came and administered oral morphine in the waiting room. This didn’t help so an hour later I asked to go home. I needed to be laying down not sat in chairs. I really felt like the staff didn’t care. Just because I wasn’t rolling around in the floor, it doesn’t mean that I’m not in severe pain. As I was leaving I saw two nurses who I’d spoken to on arrival. They could not believe that I was leaving without being seen given they knew how much pain I was in. If I ever need treatment again I would rather drive over an hour to Wythenshawe than be treated at Leighton hospital.

Dear patient, Thank you for your feedback. Please accept my apologies that you felt you were not listened to, on your arrival to the ED. There is a criteria that has to be met to be able to sit a patient back into the waiting room safely. However, I would expect pain control to be given as required and I'm sorry that this was not the case. We have recently made changes to our escalated staffing to support the waiting room with a qualified nurse in times of increased demand, and so I hope this offers some assurance that we take patient's feedback seriously. Kind regards, Kaylie Stone Matron - Emergency Department

  6. Review titled Appalling from start to finish

Most of the staff didn’t want to be there and were quite happy sat around talking. From 1:30am Sunday till 3:30am Monday I was made to be in a chair never offered food from 3:30 till 7:30am I was moved to a room and given a reclining chair once again never asked if I had eaten. I finally got a bed at 7:30am 30 hours after arriving at a&e and I was finally offered food at 3pm extremely appalled by this treatment

  7. Review titled Organised, friendly, caring and efficient service

Rated 5 stars out of 5

by Jordan - Posted on 12 February 2024

Every single time I visit; the care is exemplary. The department is well organised despite being under pressure. Patients are generally seen quickly and the staff remain upbeat, professional and clear. I was not made to feel rushed at any time. The consultants and nurses were very friendly, gave clear advice and referred me to other hospital departments where required for tests / procedures). (In my case the MRI team). I feel lucky to have Leighton hospital as a local hospital and have had excellent service on every occasion. The Opthalmology department was no exception and is a good example of a team providing high levels of care. Thank you.

Many thanks to all staff who attended to me after a bad car accident. Despite a busy time of year and during the junior doctor strikes, I was triaged and seen and assessed for injuries/concussion, then discharged very quickly and now recovering well. Thank you to the whole department.

  10. Review titled NHS at its best.

Rated 5 stars out of 5

by David - Posted on 14 January 2024

Arrived at Leighton hospital in a lot of discomfort ( renal colic). Triaged efficiently within minutes and taken through to A&E unit. Seen immediately by Dr and basic obs and bloods performed . Very impressive. Then taken to a bay and looked after by 2 nurses with excellent communication skills and empathy. They sorted analgesia and antiemetic immediately. Within the hour of arriving I was greeted by an efficient, friendly and courteous radiographer who explained the procedure and I was CT scanned to diagnose the problem. All through this process I was accompanied by the same nurse for continuity. So, touch down to diagnosis by scan and bloods and assessment took less than 2 hours! Amazing. A particular thank you to the hard working, kind and reassuring nurses and doctors who looked after me. Thank you so much. And to the staff who kept the area spotlessly clean. The unit was pristine. Well done all.
