  2. Review titled Kind professional attention from all members of staff

Rated 5 stars out of 5

On the afternoon of Saturday March 18th, my 82 year old husband had a sudden and frightening collapse. He was seen immediately in Accident & Emergency. Tests were carried out promptly and after a full assessment and advice from a doctor he was able to be discharged. Everyone - the paramedics who assisted us into the hospital, nursing staff, doctors and cleaning staff - were helpful and polite. First class service. I wish all Accident & Emergency Departments were as good. Thank you all so much.

  3. Review titled ward l38 is amazing

Rated 5 stars out of 5

My 5 year old daughter was admitted to l38 via a&e a day after a surgical procedure at this hospital. Due to complications she was in severe pain and the nurses were beyond amazing. We cannot stress enough how overwhelmed we were that at a time where we thought we were going to lose our daughter, the nurses stepped in to ensure her pain relief was appropriate to her intense pain and that an ultrasound scan was in place. Had it not been for the nursing staff on l38, our experience there would have been horrific. We have been left traumatised by the complications of her surgery, but have been soothed by the nurses beyond words. Thank you so much

  4. Review titled Very odd

So having been to ae for my wife's knee injury that accused 3 weeks prior and after 3 weeks rest hurts so much it makes her cry. They decided to make her walk from ae down to x34 that couldn't be further apart from each other unless you entered another building. No signage as to what to do once there couldn't see anyone at reception as no one was there this was like 10.20Am. Caused her more pain in walking. Her blood oxygen levels were low they tried another finger went up slightly so nothing else was done. She left hospital in more pain without anything done. Told to rest as if the last 3 weeks of rest didn't mean a thing.

  5. Review titled Superb Service

Rated 5 stars out of 5

I recently had 2 procedures in The Take Heart Suite. Both times I was treated with kindness and respect by the Staff as a whole. Through out they gave me help & understanding whilst the all the time their professionalism was obvious. They gave me confidence, time, respect for my age and allowed me to keep my dignity. Because of this, I can look forward once again and I cannot thank them enough. This is a superb service and I am grateful that I was given the opportunity to receive it.

  7. Review titled Asking for inappropriate levels of personal information

Rated 1 star out of 5

by Anonymous - Posted on 31 January 2023

The review is related to the referral and booking line. Lack of understanding shown by the call handler when dealing with sensitive information. Improper use of call termination option when a patient does not wish to detail answers that the hospital has no right to demand. The experience left the impression that certain staff were trained poorly to handle conversations with the public. This is not my usual experience of the hospital in general. Still, the effect of the call termination meant I had to queue twice in a call waiting line to ask a fundamental question about an appointment. I had chosen to try and save an unnecessary appointment being used, which was the reason behind my calling in the first place.

  8. Review titled Great practice

Rated 5 stars out of 5

After having 2 unexpected Transient Ischaemic attacks, that I initially thought were just migraine attacks, I was referred to the hospital by my optician. The Transient Ischaemic attacks caused me to go blind in my right eye for about 3 minutes and then gradually return to full sight over about 1 -2 minutes, both attacks happened while I was exercising. The hospital tests / scans led me quickly to the the vascular surgeons. After scans, their staff pointed out the urgency of my situation. they arranged to operate on my blocked right carotid artery, removing the blockage and enlarging the artery volume. The threat of me having a more serious stroke, led them to operate as soon as was possible, something I am so grateful for. In my opinion, they no doubt saved my life, but also cured lots of other minor health problems at the same time. I have suffered from some memory loss over a few years, suffered some dizzy spells and had lots of other minor problems with my cognition, and they all disappeared, after surgery. I am staggered by the improvements in my memory, my concentration and my well being. I am still a competitive athlete at 72 and am now back training daily, as I have done since childhood. I am back on the ice, speed skating, and my racing stats - mar, vo2 max, etc are all back too normal. We are also back to ballroom dancing several evenings / weekly. There were some complications after surgery and I spent some time in Intensive care unit, where the care I received there was simply amazing too. I will always be grateful for the 100% commitment of all! I would recommend that anyone suffering temporary loss of sight, loss of feelings in any limbs, etc, go straight to your doctor for evaluation, your life / well being, could depend on prompt action! Summing up: the Vascular team did a Great job, and I recommend them for the skill, up to date practices, and pure professionalism! Well done indeed!

  9. Review titled Amazing care by all staff!

Rated 5 stars out of 5

by David Wood - Posted on 23 January 2023

After an operation on my right carotid artery on 29th November, there were problems with my blood pressure and extremes of heart rate at both ends of the spectrum, and I was taken into the Intensive Care Unit, where I received the most amazing level of care by all the ICU staff. Nothing was too much trouble for staff at any time, night or day! I had need for help in toileting during the nights, several times having to call for assistance! I really didn't want to ask for, and would much rather toilet myself. However, every time I asked for assistance, staff on duty where very kind and helpful, and nothing was too much trouble for them. They always got me back to bed with a smile and kind words, comfortable and with my dignity feeling OK. The Doctors were all very helpful, caring and thorough in the care they gave, as were all the nurses. I found the ladies that served meals and drinks were likewise caring, kind and very personable, even having a laugh with me when I discussed the hallucinations I was having during the nights, like the little guys climbing up the walls, and the numerous golden butterflies I could see all flying all around the unit. I was very regularly seen by doctors and nurses, checking on the catheters in my wrists, checking my blood pressure, temperature, heart rate and numerous other things, and I can only conclude that working in the ICU is not just a job, it's a vocation! I guess it is really uplifting to see patients getting better and going home, when one has played a part in their recovery? I felt the same when children in my classes gained high level passes in their examination results, especially when their socio economic group (in theory) lessened their academic chances / aspirations. Summing up, and amazing experience in ICU, but one I hope I never need again! Thank you to you all!

  10. Review titled Poor facilities, poor service

Rated 1 star out of 5

by Anonymous - Posted on 30 November 2022

My partner was admitted to lgi from Jimmys, since coming here it has been an absolute shambles, lack of communication from staff to patient, and it would appear each other. no call button in his room for three days even though it was reported straight away when he shouts for assistance he got told off for shouting, call button finally repaired only to go faulty again in the same day. poor facilities in the toilets for anyone disabled, have to bring in own cutlery as hospital doesn’t provide utensils for people who require the larger grip cutlery. Bed not changed for two days even though there was blood on the sheets. Would I recommend this hospital No, you would stand a better chance at the Pdsa, or go to Jimmys , as for contacting Pals to assist with complaints don’t bother they are about as much use as a chocolate fire guard, they say they will look into it and get back to but this is like waiting for a phone call from god it never happens, the nursing staff try their best but can only do so much. If I could rate LGI as a minus I would.
