I broke my femur whilst on holiday and from the moment I entered the hospital I was treated to outstanding care and treatment. I watched in awe as staff worked 12 + hour shifts and still they smiled and cared 100%. I really can't thank them enough. I was on Sharp ward for two weeks

28 Hours without food waiting for a a ct scan because my illness is not important enough. And I still dont know when I am getting this scan.No mental health support either. This is unacceptable because I have had to watch other paitents enjoy meals while I have had to do without. Its like being abused all over again.

We are sorry that you felt this way. The hospital is extremely busy, and we do the best we can to make sure patients get their scans. All our patients are important to us, and we are sorry that you felt this way. It can be difficult not being allowed to eat and drink but sometimes we must keep patients nil by mouth so that they are ready for the treatment they might need. 6. Review titled Lack of empathy from a male gyno doctor

Rated 2 stars out of 5

by Anonymous - Posted on 24 July 2024

I was admitted to maternity services for mva, I did ask if there was a female doctor, I was told there wasn't. I never want to be seen by a male doctor, but that day I didn't have choice but to tolerate a male doctor, since I just wanted to be done with it and go back to normal life. I absolutely hated the experience, the most humiliating and undignifying situation I ever had to experience. I honestly would rather go private so that I could have a choice for a female doctor, but the thing is there is no even option for private treatment in UK, which I find so frustrating. I had to go through this humiliation, to be honest I felt like I was r ....d. The doctor had no empathy whatsoever, he was smiling all the way through, I understand he does on a daily basis and for the doctor it is routine and also being a male he will never obviously understand the pain women have to go through. I was given local anastetics which didn't work, I felt all the pain, had I known it would be so painful I would have asked for sedation option. I hope my review will go through and other women will be aware of what can await them if they ever have to use maternity services at Derriford. This experience was very degrading for me. I absolutely hated it. I would rather travel to nearby city if need be as long as I have a choice of having a female gyno doctor.

  8. Review titled Poor communication

Rated 3 stars out of 5

by Charlotte - Posted on 20 October 2024

It has been well over two months since having a pre-op for cataracts surgery. It is unfathomable that there is,no honesty about the expected timescale. I was told that August would be unlikely for the surgery because of the school, holidays, and therefore surgeons taking time off. Fair enough. That doesn’t account for September and most of October though. I phoned up recently to check what’s happening, but was clearly fobbed off again. Startled that the term “pot luck” was used in the conversation. This is just a shocking service. If I was given an approximate timescale, things would not be so bad. In the meantime, my eyesight and mental health are deteriorating rapidly, I’m find8ng it unsafe to cross the road, cannot go out when the sun is shining, and am really struggling to do my job as a receptionist. My life is on hold with absolutely zero clues as to when it may restart. The communication is non existent. The service, since moving to Alpha Way, has seemingly got worse, something I didn’t believe possible.

Unfortunately, we are unable to give an exact time for surgery as each patient has individual requirements. Our team book patients in chronological order following the consultant’s clinical assessment and the priority specified. As a generic timescale we look to book patients for surgery approximately 12 months after the date of the decision to operate, but this can sometimes be longer dependant on medical conditions. I apologise you felt ‘fobbed off’ as this is certainly not our intention but if your eyesight is deteriorating to the extent stated, please seek advice from the GP who can request for the surgery to be expedited if deemed appropriate on review here by our consultant team. 9. Review titled Amazing Colposcopy team!

Rated 5 stars out of 5

by Grace - Posted on 05 July 2024

I was soooo nervous going in to my colposcopy appointment today, but the three people that looked after me put me at ease in an instant. I couldn’t have asked for a better team - they reassured me, had a laugh with me and took great care of me. They are absolutely amazing. While I hope I don’t have to come back… I wouldn’t mind if I got to see them again!

  10. Review titled First Class Care and Treatment

Rated 5 stars out of 5

by Mrs Geneviève Walker - Posted on 25 June 2024

On Tuesday 18 June I had a Colonoscopy. Home preparation was disturbing, and entering the procedure suite was filled with such fear and trepidation. However, I can’t find enough praise for the entire staff who cared for me. The Reception Nurses, the Procedure Nurses and the Doctors and Surgeon ….. they were all so caring, so professional and utterly dedicated. Thankyou Thankyou Thankyou. (I have a list of individuals names, but I understand I am not permitted to mention them here). The result of the procedure was ‘positive’, I was overjoyed, But it was heart warming to hear the happy relief from the staff as well. Sincere regards, Geneviève Walker.

Dear Mrs Walker, It is always lovely to hear that our patients' experience of Endoscopy was positive even though as you say it can be a procedure that patients are very nervous about having done. As the Quality Manager for the Endoscopy Unit I am keen to let staff know when they have been praised and would be delighted to know the names of the staff members that were with you through your journey so that I can pass this back to them personally. Thank you again for taking the time to contact us. I can be contacted by e-mail or telephone as below.
