  1. Review titled Amazing care all round

Rated 5 stars out of 5

I visited labour ward and teh antenatal day unit today as an unplanned attendance because I developed some abnormal Symptoms in my pregnancy. I was admitted efficiently and was made to feel very welcome by every staff member I encountered. They started investigations within 5 minutes. I was given a glass of water, cup of tea, packet of biscuits and even offered lunch! I was investigated thoroughly by professional and compassionate staff who made me feel like nothing was too much to ask for. I have been more than reassured that my baby is healthy and happy. I was given appropriate treatment and discharged with appropriate management and follow up plan very efficiently. I cannot praise the staff enough. Despite being extremely busy they all did a fantastic job and are representing obstetrics and gynaecology department as well as the hospital as a whole to an extremely high standard. Thank you to all involved in antenatal day unit and labour ward…including reception staff, all clinical and non-clinical staff I was attended to by. You are all doing an amazing job and deserve to be commended for that.

  3. Review titled Uncomfortable to witness

Rated 3 stars out of 5

I attended for an appointment at the hospital recently. I was called in to my appointment by the doctor and it was immediately clear they were unhappy about having to come and get me, as on walking to the doctors office, they stopped, turned around and walked back to tell a nurse 'I have got the patient myself.' Whether this 'telling off' was justified or not I do not know but I felt mortified watching it play out. If the nurse had failed in her duty, maybe it was something that needed to be said but did it really need to be pointed out in front of a patient? Better maybe saved for a quiet chat or an appraisal?

  4. Review titled Friendly and attentive staff

Rated 5 stars out of 5

I had an excellent experience when birthing my baby at the Countess in November 22. I had asked for a pool room as I wanted a water birth, and the facilities and cleanliness of the room were excellent. I had at least one midwife with me at all times and they were all so kind, supportive and friendly. I will be forever grateful. When my labour was not progressing as quickly as hoped, I was transferred to the labour ward. A doctor came in to see me almost immediately after arrival, carried out a scan within minutes and said he would come back after 15 minutes if I had not progressed. He came back as promised but the baby was nearly born at that stage and there was no need for further intervention. I had a two night stay on the post natal ward and the staff here were equally as brilliant. I required quite a lot of support with breastfeeding and I felt that support was available on tap. No question was too silly. If I required paracetamol, it was there within minutes. The staff bend over backwards for their patients, despite the challenges they face. Thank you for the excellent service you provide. I hope this feedback gets passed to the department and wish there was a way I could thank the midwives personally. This level of service, and attentiveness by staff, really makes such a difference to women at a time when they are feeling so vulnerable.

  5. Review titled Helpful staff

by JMA - Posted on 30 November 2022

I just wanted to highlight the excellent help I got from the dieticians at Countess of Chester hospital. I have a transgastric feeding peg which I unexpectedly had an issue with while I am down in Chester on holiday from Scotland. I knew I needed a replacement tube to insert to keep my tract open until returning home and getting a new tube fitted. I called the reception who were very helpful and put me through to the dieticians. After me explaining the situation the nurse I spoke to knew exactly what I needed (despite my babbling trying to explain) she was in a meeting but took my details and said she would call me back in the afternoon. True to her word she called me back, had managed to source me a temporary peg and even went out of her way to ask if I needed her to fit it for me. This maybe sounds like a really small and simple thing to help with, but for me it has meant I can stay for the remainder of my holiday and given the impact having a peg has on my life this really has meant a lot to me. Sorry I didn’t catch the dietician's name but hopefully she will see this and know how thankful I am for her help.

  6. Review titled Compassionate and caring treatment

Rated 5 stars out of 5

I called an ambulance for mum - 91 with vascular dementia and breast cancer - after a fall at home. Despite being advised of a 9 hour wait for an ambulance, they arrived within 2 hours. At the hospital we were taken from a huge queue at A&E majors and advised we would be seen a little bit quicker in minors. Triaged within half an hour and called in within an hour, mum went for X ray and we were advised she had broken her wrist. It was manipulated with the help of gas and air for pain relief and set, then a temporary cast was placed and the arm was re-Xrayed. We went home. Mum has dementia and during the night took off the bandages and cast, so we had to return to A&E. I am confined to a wheelchair but managed to get Mum to the car on this occasion instead of calling an ambulance, and on presenting at reception we got to A&E with the assistance of a very helpful receptionist, who managed to find a wheelchair, collected Mum from the car and wheeled her to A&E, where she had the bone reset and recasted. Unfortunately, despite close supervision throughout the night, Mum managed to get the second cast off again and the whole thing had to be repeated for a third time. On the third occasion I managed to get mum to A&E again myself and we returned early morning before anyone was on reception. I was unable to get mum into the hospital without help and an A&E nurse coming on shift saw my distress and together with a colleague, they found a wheelchair, collected mum from the car and got her to A&E where we were greeted by the same nurse who had dealt with us the day before. We went straight through to X-ray and an orthopaedic doctor came down and put a stronger cast on - to date, three days later it’s still on and we have an appointment at the fracture clinic for Friday for a permanent cast. I cannot thank the staff enough for their kindness and compassion. We were in a really difficult situation and their thoughtfulness made the whole experience a lot easier - everyone went above and beyond for us and I am so grateful. Obviously I cannot mention names in the review, but I so hope everyone knows who they are from my description and I would like to thank you all from the bottom of my heart.

  7. Review titled Could not fault

Rated 5 stars out of 5

Got took to a&e on the 19th September, due to a fall. Discovered bleed on brain, broken ribs and wrist. The staff on a&e were amazing, got me the correct care and couldn’t do enough for me. On the 3rd October I went in for surgery on my wrist, the staff on tal were so attentive, organised and thoughtful. The orthopaedics surgical staff and the anaesthetist team were all amazing, I was scared before my operation but they put me at ease and did an amazing job on my wrist. Always checking if I was ok even when in recovery. Again so thoughtful and brilliant at their job. Speaking to the patients in recovery they also could not fault the countess and the staff. Thank you for making a bad situation a little easier.

I attended for an appointment at the hospital in October. I was called in to my appointment by the doctor and it was immediately clear they were unhappy about having to get me. On walking to the doctors office, they stopped, turned around and walked back to an office to tell a nurse 'I have got the patient myself.' Whether this 'telling off' was justified or not I do not know but I felt mortified watching it play out and actually now wish I had said something at the time. It has continued to play on my mind, hence me writing this review. If the nurse had failed in her duty, maybe it was something that needed to be said but did it really need to be pointed out in front of a patient? Better maybe for a quiet chat or an appraisal? Being witness to this event didn't show either the doctor or the hospital in a good light.

  9. Review titled Excellent service

Rated 5 stars out of 5

I attended for a colonoscopy, at the Endoscopy unit, and was very relieved that Countess of Chester are meeting the pathway 2 week standard. All of the staff I encountered were excellent, very professional and took time to make sure I understood everything that was going on and answered all my questions. They explained the results of my test and what would happen next. I was in dread of the process and the outcome of the colonoscopy but was relaxed and reassured by the staff. I can’t praise them enough.

  10. Review titled Good treatment

Rated 4 stars out of 5

by Anonymous - Posted on 30 September 2022

I was taken by ambulance and sent to majors straight away. The staff introduced who was looking after me but with having chest pain other staff were concerned and took action making sure treatment was given. It did take a few hours to control my pain with pain relieve every two hours but they got it under control as a collection of staff. I had two sets of bloods taken and scans during my time without a definite diagnosis. I returned next day to SAU and had more bloods and scans but had to wait a long time for a surgeon to give a valuation of my diagnosis. He was right but I also have another problem that needs further investigation. Conclusion: the A&E staff were fantastic and the surgeons were correct in my diagnosis from the evidence they had.
