by Pauline Tunnicliffe - Posted on 06 July 2023

I had an appointment which the consultant said see you next week but on the next appointment 13th June at 9am hospital rang me too say tge appointment has been cancelled for 1,30 same day, next appointment was for 22nd June but didn't get the letter for it till Fri 23rd too late,so I'm now awaiting another appointment, but right now I'm trying too deal with a flare up of blepharitis which I had last August/September and was given maxitrol ointment which cleared it,I spoke to a doctor this morning at my surgery explaining about my eye,he said he wasn't happy too give me steroid ointment and that I should ring opthalmology department up,I tried that but phone keeps ringing, thing is I only have my right eye for sight and this is the 1 starting the blepharitis on as I'm completely blind in left eye so I don't want it to get bad like last year, hope someone can help me much appreciated, pauline tunnicliffe.

  2. Review titled Worst

I was referred to the gynaecologist 8-9 months back and I haven’t still got the appointment….When I contacted the gynaecology team they suggested me to ask gp to convert to immediate waiting list…so my gp have done the same on December and am still waiting…My health condition is getting worse day by day and now I am helplessly quiting my job and career here and going for treatment to my country…what is the use of this health system if the patients are not getting right treatment at the right time….There is no use of displaying nhs values and commitments in the website without practically doing it…

  4. Review titled Superb care from the rheumatology department

Rated 5 stars out of 5

by Sue - Posted on 15 July 2023

I have been a patient for many years and it is thanks to this department that I am able to cope with my condition and live a relatively normal life. This is an excellent team that really listens and cares about its patients. The consultant is really kind, well organised and responsive. She is very impressive. The consultant nurse is of the highest quality and a great support. She is very knowledgeable, approachable and goes out of her way to solve problems. All of the staff are helpful and helpful. I. have every faith in this team and feel that their clinical practice is at the highest level, up-to-date and involves you every step of the way. I recommend them highly to anyone needing rheumatology care. Thank you to all of the team.

  5. Review titled A great listener.

Rated 5 stars out of 5

by Janice Towers - Posted on 12 July 2023

The rheumatology nurse I saw today was friendly, knowledgable, understanding and a patient listener. She answered my questions and helped with my concerns. I have always had every confidence in BDGH from the birth of my first child in 1968 right up to present day, wether it be for my self or my family.

  6. Review titled Brilliant service

Rated 5 stars out of 5

I was referred to Gynaecology at Barnsley with a large pelvic lesion. The care and treatment I received throughout the whole pathway was exceptionally good, staff are professional, knowledgeable, kind and brilliant at their jobs. The hospital is pristine, clean and tidy. Care and treatment was very prompt and the information provided to me as a patient was very thorough. I would highly recommend Barnsley Hospital to anyone needing NHS hospital care. I’ve been a nurse for 39 years in other Trusts and cannot speak highly enough of the care Barnsley deliver. Thank you

  8. Review titled Great Practice

Rated 5 stars out of 5

by Anonymous - Posted on 11 August 2023

I attended a pre-assessment appointment due to my forthcoming operation to remove my gall bladder. The Nurse Practitioner I saw was polite, thorough and as I would expect from a health care professional. After having some doubts about the pathway ahead she was more than happy to revisit the Consultant for advice. I was given a second appointment with the consultant to explain my concerns which provided clarity and comfort. Well done Nurse Practitioner.

  9. Review titled Fantastic hard working staff

    by puppisjg53 - Posted on 08 August 2023

I was admitted to ward 35 for 4 nights, requiring surgery to remove my appendix. From the moment I entered A&E I was met with understanding, caring and sensitive staff who worked hard to diagnose my condition quickly and minimise my pain. In particular, the staff on ward 35 were amazing. They worked non-stop to ensure all patients received the best care and want above and beyond to ensure everyone was comfortable and in good spirits. They made a difficult time more bearable and I can’t thank them enough for their sensitive approach and care.

  10. Review titled Shambolic Mess

Rated 1 star out of 5

by Anonymous - Posted on 10 July 2023

After attending my pre-assessment appointment I was sent to the Cardiology Department for an ECG. I handed over the slip of paper to the person who runs the front of house desk and took my place in the queue. There were three patients in front of me. Those three patients were dealt with, then another three patients came and were seen and so on. I asked the receptionist if the receptionist wanted me to come back another time to which the receptionist replied "who are you" I stated my name date of birth which the receptionist keyed into the system and told me my paperwork had been lost, there were three of us waiting to be seen when I arrived , so presumably three pieces of paper. I know that the receptionist was busy was busy showing colleagues pictures of her new puppy, having a laugh with some colleagues but obviously not keeping an eye on the waiting room. After around ten minutes they finally found the slip of paper and sent me for my appointment, where I walked past the group of specially trained clinicians who are trained to carry out ECG's and into the treatment room where I was seen my a student. If I turn on the television I am likely to see senior NHS Executives telling all and sundry how the NHS workforce are exhausted and are in need of a pay rise, not in my experience today. Three or four highly skilled clinicians drinking tea or coffee whilst their student carries out what I would describe as a very good job. Exhausted indeed.
