Having just spent time on ward 36 after being admitted through emergency department . Arrived on ward, not history of medication taken, promise of pain relief that took 4hrs to finally come. Some of the staff we literally amazing people, who went above and beyond in their roles and patients care. However I was witness to some staff who obviously do not want to be treated n their jobs. I listened to staff bad mouthing other staff while dealing with a patient, paying no real care or anything interest in the job in hand. No passing information on, dashing away from frail elderly patients so not to have to help them. Sly comments on the back of patient request. Leaving other patients to care and help each other and to find staff when needed. Countless occasions of medication waiting for up to 2-3 hours and no explanation just left waiting in pain and rolling about. On the other hand some staff that were organised got to know their patients. Nothing ever being to much trouble. Down to helping frail patients take meds and not rushing them speaking. Building trust between both sides. Night staff not caring for patients sleeping, talking loudly, turning lights on and general being more noisy than required. Catering staff unsung heroes who made sure you were with drinks and explained the menus for those needing a specialist diet. Overall I would give a rating of adequate but definitely needs a good shake up of staffing and consistency of care, booking in and every patient getting the same start and experience on the ward from start to finish.

I had an appointment for the Birth in Mind Service at Barnsley Hospital on 15th September 2023 with a very experienced midwife. The midwife who saw us is so professional, kind, caring and just lovely and put all my worries at ease. She allowed me the time, platform and space to ask any questions that I needed and talked through my birth in a timeline & helped to fill in the gaps I had. This service is worth its weight in gold and is an essential service to new mums, it is invaluable! This has made me feel more comfortable, confident and has helped my mental health and anxiety significantly, in the most positive way. It has allowed me to positively reflect upon and process my labour and birth experience. I just want to echo that the care I received back in May during my labour, birth and ward care for my son and I, was second to none and I look forward to using the service again in the future (hopefully) Thank you so much.

I just wanted to take the time to say thank you to all the amazing Barnsley hospital staff that supported me through my pregnancy. I had a tricky pregnancy with placenta problems but each time I had to come in the staff were all so kind and supportive. My baby was safely delivered by C-section in September and again the surgical team were brilliant. Once on the ward I felt well looked after by the midwife’s, the ward was very clean and the meals were great.

Looked after exceptionally from arrival to departure cannot fault any of the staff from consultants to doctors, nurses not forgetting the great ‘Tea Ladies’ cannot thank you all enough. Excellent

Attended an appointment today, one of many over past 2 years and have to say the professionalism of the staff, the treatment, the whole ethos of the hospital is absolutely fantastic. We, the people of Barnsley should be so proud to have such an excellent NHS hospital available to us.

Been in today after going over on my ankle, went to a&e and sent to a minor injury part, here I was senn straight away sent to xray and back to be seen straight away again! The nurse practitioner was humorous and down to earth. We thought I'd be there hours and honestly bet I was just over a hour! There's so much bad press about nhs and a&e these days so thought I'd report my very positive experience today. Thankyou

Heard lots about nhs wait times etc on news but our experience at Barnsley was 100% positive. Wait only for blood test results otherwise quick and efficient . Couldn’t fault all staff. Including doctors , nurses but also others. Friendly, approachable and of course knowledgeable

From entering ward 38 , to leaving, the staff were superb. They were so friendly and caring and always with a smile. Cannot thank them enough.

My partner unfortunately had to be admitted into hospital. He was initially seen in same day emergency care Friday evening and was advised to attend same day emergency care again at 7:30am. The care received by the auxiliary nurse working Saturday 19th August was absolutely outstanding. Nothing was ever too much, she was kind, caring, and showed a high standard of dignity towards my partner. Credit to her work as she does an amazing job.

I was sent to urology for an urgent diagnosis, after a mix up at the xray department who sent me straight to urology before doing a scan( the consultant quickly rectified this )I received excellent treatment from all the professionals involved I cannot praise the department high enough
