  2. Review titled Way too difficult to speak to or see a doctor

Rated 1 star out of 5

by Anonymous - Posted on 01 November 2022

I initially attempted to see a doctor around 2 months ago. After much difficulty in finding an appointment it was insisted that I had a phone consultation first despite knowing I'd be asked to come in. It was then advised on the phone that I needed a face to face appointment and one was scheduled nearly a month later. From that I was given a referral letter for private healthcare. I now need to speak to a GP about that letter after speaking to the private healthcare company. I'm calling daily after my kids' school run to be told all appointments are gone for the day and nothing can be scheduled in advance for a 2 minute conversation. I was very polite and calm with the receptionist today but mentioned how frustrated I was at this all being so difficult. Her advice in a very superior and quite arrogant voice was to find a different GP if I felt that will be a benefit. I know I'm going to need surgery and have been around a loop for nearly 2 months now. My ask of this GP practice is only around communication to enable this but it seems impossible for them. Previously, I had challenges in my 9 year old being seen despite a referral from 111 when he was very ill which I received a confirmed appointment for. The doctors here are good but the surgery is oversubscribed and not set up to provide any good service. The appointment system is in the dark ages and relies too heavily on receptionists who in some cases lack any common decency or customer service skills. I'd suggest avoiding it.

  3. Review titled Follow-on appointment

Rated 4 stars out of 5

We were given a follow-on appointment but not told it was 80 minutes later. So we waited in the cold waiting room for 20 minutes before being told and then going home for half-an-hour.

I am very happy with the support I have received from this practice since being diagnosed type 2 Diabetic.Reception staff are very busy but always helpful. The ‘ Birthday MOT’ is a wonderful idea and I would have been oblivious to raised glucose levels without this service. Many thanks to you all at the NHS.

  6. Review titled Excellent nurse

Rated 4 stars out of 5

by Kat - Posted on 02 November 2022

I changed practice a couple of years ago and haven't had face to face contact with a GP yet. However, I have had 2 reviews about my complaint with nurses and have been extremely impressed with their knowledge and advice ( even exceeding that of GPs at my previous practice). In addition, the nurses seemed very caring, didn't rush me, taking time to understand my precise problems. My only niggle with this practice so far is that no one answers the phone for ages, and there is no telephone ' queuing' system. Consequently, you don't know how many are in front of you in the telephone queue and therefore whether it is worth continuing to hold on the phone .

  8. Review titled Room for improvement

Rated 5 stars out of 5

Staff excellent but there is sometimes a disconnect between texts sent by Hollies and the treatment I’m receiving, causing some confusion (in my case regarding blood test). Seems like an information technology issue?

  10. Review titled Barriers to get access to doctor very high

Rated 3 stars out of 5

by Anonymous - Posted on 09 November 2022

My family and I have been patients here for over 9 years. All the doctors we have dealings with are great. I could not fault the surgery in the past and it was easy to get an appoint on the day by ringing after 8:30. However, since Covid it has been almost impossible to use the surgery. I understand there was a time face-to-face was not possible, but the system of triaging, then a phone appointment at unspecified time of the day is impossible for us patients. We have to work and cannot sit by our phones waiting all day. E.g. In May 2021 I needed sick note on that Friday about work related stress and missed the doctor's phone call. The receptionist basically said tough and I'd need to ring back next week to get another appointment so couldn't get the sick note, ironically adding to my stress! I have so many examples of trying to get seen but jumping through multiple hoops: phones; taking photos and submitting to Acruix, then more phone appointments, then finally weeks late a face-to-face appoint is made. I have thus been avoiding my GP even when I know I shouldn't with my family's health at stake, but with 3 young children and a busy job I just don't have the time for these barriers and stress. The systems is making so much work for everyone. I recently called to get an appointment and the system has become even more complex: urgent appointment between 8:30-10 (prob, not appointment but invitation to a stressful day sitting by your phone while ill and trying to work waiting for a call no doubt). Or for none urgent you ring after 10 or can use the online acuix service between 8 and 8:30 only! This is then triaged and there are call backs and who know what until you loss the will to live and give up. I have tried to complain and feedback last year, so I was offered a conversation with a manager. I was shocked by her views. She basically seemed to imply the doctors time and health was more important that the patients. Society is functioning post covid now and this surgery need to return to simple face-to-face systems that patients can use. I had useful suggests for her last year but she clearly did not listen. This new more complex system discriminates against those that work (can't ring after 10) or anyone trying to get children to school (Who with kids is free to get online and fill in forms between 8-8:30 in the morning?!?). Madness.
