  1. Review titled Excellent GP Practice

Rated 5 stars out of 5

by Margaret Harris - Posted on 17 January 2023

I’ve had nothing but excellent help & treatment at this GP Practice. Once you get through you can join a queue for a call back. This has always happened and fairly quickly too. You then are asked a few questions & offered a phone or face to face consultation. It’s either with a GP or other health professional. Same day appointments are offered. I’ve never had a problem getting through, though it may take a few attempts. All the telephonists are polite & helpful. Receptionist are excellent & polite & listen to you with any enquiries. I believe everyone at this practice is doing their absolute best to help their patients. There are GPS, Advanced Nurse Practitioners, Physiotherapists, Nurses & other helpful professionals. Social Prescribing is also offered here. I have used the help from GPS, physios, the Advanced Nurse Practitioner & the Social Prescribing team. They are all excellent and listen patiently to all concerns. I have had a problem for a couple of weeks & phoned at 8 am & was seeing a GP face to face at 9.15 am. I can’t fault this health centre. It is busy but everything is done to make the experience there go smoothly. Banbury has an ever growing population so GP appointments can be difficult to get. But here they do everything to try and accommodate your requirements. Thank you.

  2. Review titled Disappointed advised to go to A&E

Rated 2 stars out of 5

by Simone Gardener - Posted on 25 January 2023

I rang the Banbury cross this afternoon as my cat had biten me and punched my arm. I have been biten before and had a course of antibiotics. I knew my tetanus was upto date so i thought i would ring the surgery to see if i could get some for this bite. I rang and spoke to someone in the call centre. I explained to them and they said i would need to go to A&E and that is what they advise. I didn't have childcare so couldn't go to A&E and i didnt want to waste their time as its a minor injury. I rang 111 and they were fab and said for me to not to go to A&E and said that a doctor would ring me. Fast forward a few hours and a doctor rang me and said i was upto date with my tetanus and that i would need a course of antibiotics and issued them to my chemist. She asked for a photo so this can be added to my file. I know Banbury cross are extremely busy but all i needed was someone to prescribe me antibiotics after a bite and it took all afternoon to sort this out. No wonder A&E are so busy just glad i thought to ring 111.

Thanks so much for taking the time to leave a review. We always look at these and learn from them to try to improve the care we give. I am sorry that you were not happy with your experience on this occasion. We do usually advise people who have suffered animal bites to attend A & E as they sometimes need to be washed out or even debrided (damaged tissue removed in theatre). Sometimes, even if someone is up to date with tetanus immunisations, the wound is sufficiently dirty that a special booster of immunoglobulins has to be given. A GP Practice is not an emergency service and so is not in a position to offer these options. Obviously, there is always a range of opinions on any clinical matter and people are not machines so we often give a variety of answers. I suspect if I had called you back I would have reinforced the advice to attend A & E. I hope the injury has settled down. If not, or if there are any signs of it worsening, you really must attend A & E. Many thanks, Dr Gwyneth Rogers, Clinical Lead.

  5. Review titled fantastic doctor

Rated 5 stars out of 5

by Anonymous - Posted on 19 May 2023

i went to visit the doctor on 31st Dec 2022 for what i believed was a chest infection. the doctor carried out several checks and asked me to go back to the waiting room for 15 mins and he would recall me to check the results again. second time round he told me he was calling an ambulance and i would be admitted to hostpital. the doctor virtually saved my life. my blood sats were in the 70's and i was going into heart failure. tests proved i had several blood clots in my heart and lungs. i spent 6 days in hospital in Critical care unit. i am slowly recovering with no lasting damage to my heart or lungs. the doctor was calm and assertive as i tried to leave the surgery. i was treated before the ambulance arrived via numbulizer and oxygen. i cannot thank all staff concerned enough. they worked swiftly and calmly as a team, at no point was i upset or worried about my condition as i knew i was in good hands. thank you all you do an amazing job with very little thanks. im getting better every day and can only put that down to the quick reaction of the doctor and his team. thank you.

  6. Review titled Terrible practice

Rated 1 star out of 5

by Anonymous - Posted on 28 December 2022

I tried to get my mum an appointment this morning and it was terrible, the call centre staff are very rude. She kept repeating the same line, due to the symptoms you have described you are not required to see a doctor. I understand why this practice has such bad reviews. Getting an appointment is impossible and staff clearly read off a script.

Thanks for leaving a review and I am sorry that your experience of us on this occasion was unsatisfactory. We always try to learn from feedback to try to improve our service. Unfortunately, as you haven't given your name, or that of your Mum, I cannot listen back to the call. I hope you were able to resolve her problem. The first day back after any Bank Holiday, especially Christmas, is always very busy with a lot of calls. Our in-house Call Centre staff are well-trained in triage, that is, asking questions to ascertain the urgency of an issue. Sadly, you have not given any details of what was troubling your Mum, so I cannot comment on this. I frequently listen back to calls (they are all recorded) and am always impressed by our Call Centre staff's calm, professional manner. I can only apologise if, on this occasion, you felt one of our staff was rude. If you would like me to listen to the call, please do contact us on feedback.bchc@nhs.net informing us of your name, your Mum's name, the phone number you used and the approximate time of the call. We are proud to be a learning organisation and always striving to be better. Many thanks, Dr Gwyneth Rogers, Clinical Lead.

  7. Review titled quick response to email

Rated 4 stars out of 5

by Anonymous - Posted on 22 December 2022

I sent an email to the practice today querying my repeat prescription. I was pleasantly surprised to receive a telephone call within a couple of hours explaining why not all of my request had been fulfilled. The caller, sorry I did not get the name, checked all my repeat medications with me and gave me the opportunity to ask any questions. Her manner was friendly, professional and could not have been more helpful. My query was answered quite happily. Thank you for the service.

  8. Review titled Great practice and support

Rated 5 stars out of 5

by Roy Moore - Posted on 16 November 2022

Great support from both my GP and Link Worker for the past 12 years. Especially my Link Worker who has supported me through what has been a severely traumatic past four years and helped me to obtain benefits that I was not aware that I was entitled to. Her support has been and is helping me to feel more positive about the future with advice, counselling and coping strategies. Also ongoing blood tests and flu and covid vaccinations have all been a pleasant experience due to the friendly and caring nurses, who have performed them. My gratitude and thanks to everyone at the Banbury Health Centre.

  9. Review titled Trying to get through to discuss a sick note for my wife

Rated 4 stars out of 5

by Jaswant Rai Chopra - Posted on 14 November 2022

According to the recorded message you are to ring after 11 am to discuss request for sick notes as my wife needs a specific request for work - selected correct option 3 I phoned in at exactly 11 am and it is now 12.53 and still on hold? I would welcome any kind of reasonable explanation as to what is the point of this?

Dear Mr Chopra, thank you for taking the time to post. We always take feedback very seriously and learn from it. It helps us to improve the service we provide. I am sorry that you had trouble getting through. If the lines are busy, we do have a 'callback' function so that you don't have to hang on the line, not being able to get on with your day. This is automated so, if you accept it, the system automatically calls you back as soon as an operator is free. This frees you up, so that you don't waste your time hanging on. You may already know this, but if you are calling about a sick note request then you select option 3 when you call up. As you say, this line is open from 11:00 am to 6:30 pm. I will contact your wife separately about the sick note. Many thanks, Dr Gwyneth Rogers, Clinical Lead.

  10. Review titled Brilliant diabetic support

Rated 5 stars out of 5

by Denise Bowerman - Posted on 15 November 2022

My recent diabetic needs have been quite complicated and the help, treatment & support I have received has been excellent. I can't give the name of the diabetic nurse here as this review won't be published if I do. I have had to go on insulin and I was helped immensely with this. All my questions were answered and I was reassured when needed. All in all I have had excellent service and have been looked after really well.
