I was met by a very friendly man who showed me to the waiting room. Nurses were very friendly and caring. My whole experience was very calming and was made to feel comfortable. The procedure itself was overly quickly and was made to feel quite safe.

I’m truly grateful for the excellent treatment I received. I’m 60 and due to cataracts my eyesight deteriorated rapidly over the past 3 years. I was referred by my optician and had a replacement lens in my left eye in November followed by the right eye in February. My distance vision is now fully restored. Excellent care by the NHS. Thank you

I had a cataract removed in one eye a week ago and so far the result is excellent with the treated eye being brighter and better focus tha the untreated eye, though there is still a little blurring but to be expected at this early stage, I guess. Treatment was very quick, as comfortable as I could imagine it gets, the surgeon was confident and efficient, and he and the staff were very helpful in keeping me relaxed (as best you can) and did a great job. A minor criticism of the experience was the waiting time, but no more than I was informed it would be, and I completely understand the need to 'stack' patients, to keep the process moving. I just hope the surgeon gets sufficient breaks to maintain the number of patients he was dealing with.

I have now had cataracts removed from both eyes and a great service from start to finish. From cleaner to surgeon everyone was so helpful and friendly nothing was too much trouble and both ops were completely painless. Thank you everyone.

On entering the clinic, all the staff were very friendly and reassuring and made the experience less traumatic. The theatre nurses and the surgeon were amazing and the procedure was very quick. I would like to thank each and every member of staff very much for their kindness.

A lot of waiting but that was inevitable waiting for the drops to work. When I actually got to the theatre it seemed to be over and done very quickly - no pain at all until anaesthetic drops wore off. Pain only lasted a few hours and could see reasonably in 48 hours. Excellent staff, very helpful. A much better experience than I thought it would be.

From start to finish my wife received excellent care. Everything was clearly explained, and her mind put at ease at every step. I was allowed in to hold her hand, and could watch the procedure on the screen, fascinating! Thanks to all the lovely staff and a big thumbs up to Q!

It was a most enlightening experience and a wonderful outcome. Everyone was very friendly and helpful and although we had to wait a bit longer, no one seemed to mind. Well done NHS.

I attended the clinic 3 times with my aunt, who has dementia. Each time, despite advising staff in advance and at the time that my aunt had difficulties, absolutely no effort was made to make her experience easier. Every time we had to wait over an hour before being seen by anyone other than a receptionist - a wait time that is intolerable for my aunt who kept wanting to go home. There is no quiet waiting room and no seat not facing the tv and so we had to sit and watch programmes in which she has no interest - latterly about war and beheadings - hardly suitable! After 2 times with this waiting experience and before going for the third time I asked if this was normal as it was problematic for my aunt and if there was any consideration made for people with disabilities. I was told the wait was not normal (!), and was even asked to come 10mins earlier than the appointment time. This we duly did, but then had even longer than the 1 hour wait, and that the main priority was to see patients in order, rather than assessing their disability. At the first appointment my aunt's condition was repeatedly explained to the receptionist and after much referring back and forth between members of staff and, I was told also with my aunt's GP, it was concluded that the assessment could go ahead. Nevertheless, when we attended the 2nd appointment for the surgery, after waiting an hour to see the intake nurse, we were told the operation could not go ahead as they hadn't requested the appropriate authority from the GP. Before the 3rd appointment it took me 3 calls to get the post-operative care information that I needed in advance, in order to make sure her carers knew exactly what they needed to do and that the day centre could confirm she would still be able to attend. I was promised information in the post and via email, neither of which arrived until the 3rd call, where I stayed on the line until the email actually arrived. It was also confirmed the authority had been received. At the 3rd appointment, the receptionist insisted my aunt sign a document, even though I said she did not have mental capacity to do so, and the surgeon repeatedly asked my aunt to confirm she wanted to have the surgery - also something she lacked mental capacity to do. Your really need to review your operational process to ensure that people without physical or mental capacity are treated properly with care and compassion and that it is not the norm for people to wait 1 hour before seeing anyone other than the receptionist.
