On the 3 appointments required to have cataracts removed from both eyes. The first appointment was 2 hours late, the second appointment there was a 4 hour wait. No explanations or warnings of the long wait that would follow was given either time. The third appointment there was a 3 hour delay. A warning was at least given when I checked in. I was offered the opportunity to rebook the operation If I couldn't wait for so long, but the earliest date offered was in another 6 weeks time, so unacceptable. Also, on arriving home I found that the discharge package had someone else's name on it.

The practice is more like a private clinic than an NHS hospital: Very comfortable, friendly and efficient. I was nervous about my operation but the staff we so helpful and caring that it helped me along greatly. My operation was slightly more complex due to the cataract being right at the back of the lens but the surgeon did brilliantly and the follow up / check up sessions were most supportive. I now have better vision than ever with no need for glasses and I cannot thank Spa Medica enough. Thank you.

It was my second experience of a cataract operation and it was equally as good as the first one. excellent care taken by everyone involved starting with the receptionist downstairs and then upstairs and ending with the porter on the way out.

From start to finish the service and staff were great. Everything explained and done effortlessly, couldn’t have been any easier. Drinks and biscuits were plentiful.

From parking in the spacious parking area to the lift assistance on leaving, we cannot compliment the professionalism and service from the staff at Poole enough. A very slick operation.

Cataract removal needed. All pre-assessment communication very clear & easy to comprehend. On initial arrival, staff very welcoming & friendly. Consultation extremely thorough & all parts clearly explained throughout the process. Operation scheduled quickly & that visit was just as friendly & welcoming. All anxieties covered empathetically. Follow up appointment also booked quickly. At this appointment, all checks were very thorough & done with empathy. Second operation booked quickly if I was willing to travel to another of their clinics, which I chose to do. Cannot fault the staff and services at SpaMedica in Poole.

Right though from reception,the staff in the assessment areas on first visit.Then the same on the day of the procedure the doctor was very helpful with advice and skillful with his technique

Second cataract operation, friendly and very helpful nursing and office staff, but the surgeon made the procedure very stressful, a very different approach than the surgeon who carried out my first cataract removal in November. That surgeon talked me through the procedure, explaining what was happening and what to expect, ie extra pressure or fluid to my eye. The second surgeon hardly spoke except to raise his voice telling me to keep my eye still in a very angry manner. There was no warning of what was about to happen, and the procedure was painful snd distressing compared to the first operation . The surgeon certainly lacked in any 'people skills'. Being shouted at and told that it was very dangerous if I moved my eye and being handled in a rough manner is not conducive to keeping a frightened patient calm. After my first operation I was not worried about having the second cataract removed, but I came out very upset and felt quite poorly. Perhaps all the surgeons could be reminded that the unknown can be very stressful to the patient, and it costs nothing to be kind and courteous , as were all the other staff and especially the nurses.
