Review titled Lovely practice
Rated 5 stars out of 5
by Janet Duncan - Posted on 20 March 2024
Everyone helpful and lovely right from walking in at the main entrance. Friendly greeting. All the staff are lovely and make you feel at ease. I went last week for the cataracts assessment which went perfect. Was given an appointment for the procedure for the following week which was great as didn't expect it so fast.

Review titled Very professional
Rated 4 stars out of 5
by Elaine Woodburn - Posted on 22 March 2024
It was a professional and friendly experience from all the staff. The only issue I had was that I am a wheelchair user and the rooms were not set up to enable good wheelchair access. It was all moving chairs, chairs on the designated wheelchair spaces and abuse of disabled parking spaces. There was also some comments made, not in a mean way, but comments that were quite not acceptable. Comments like “your wheelchair is a bit of an issue” and somebody just pushing me out of the way without asking. Maybe a disability awareness course as a reminder might help. Please don’t let these latter comments override the fact that the majority of my experience was excellent.

Not at all like a hospital. Having had prior experience of this clinic last year, I insisted on using this clinic for my 2nd surgery 5/03/2024. Stress free procedure, operation team and surgeon were great. good communication from all the staff.

Review titled Variable.
Rated 4 stars out of 5

First visit January 2024, excellent. Courteous reception staff, nurse gentle, surgeon considerate, focused and polite, treatment explained. Very good results with minimal discomfort. Second visit March 2024. Reception staff as before. Nurse hurt me inserting eye pellet. Surgeon did not even look at me whilst checking paperwork. Social chatting with nurse. Eyelid clamp pushed down hard and fast. Operation lamp not close, I saw his hands and instruments during procedure. Post-op bruised eyelid and eye socket. Stinging, very sore eye. It was a different surgeon and team from the January visit and a different quality of service. Front-of-house staff fine, post-op nurse helpful and informative. Organised transport punctual and professional.

Review titled Phone first if you have glaucoma and/or a disability
Rated 3 stars out of 5
by Jan - Posted on 14 July 2024
If you have advanced glaucoma and have been referred to SpaMedica, it may be worth phoning them first to check whether you can be treated. I recently supported my 98-year-old father for an appointment, who was informed after a nearly 4 hour wait, that he could not be treated for this reason. The information about a patient is not read until seeing the optometrist (this is after seeing a nurse and then two other practitioners, who test eyesight and take photographs) therefore, no account is taken of age, ability or disability until this part of the process is reached. There is little evidence of disability training among staff (with the exception of the optometrist, who was excellent with my ‘hard of hearing’ father), no triaging system to take account of frailty or ability to sit & wait for hours e.g. if you can’t walk the corridor at the fast pace of the nurse, you are left behind to ask other patients where to go. My father found the experience exhausting, disappointing, pointless & costly, as did I (loss of earnings for time off work & petrol costs). Lesson learnt, phone first!

Review titled Wonderful place
Rated 5 stars out of 5
by Brenda - Posted on 31 March 2024
I attended this March, first for an assessment and then one week later for my first cataract removal. When you first walk in, you are made at ease by everyone plus it's not like a hospital. I was very nervous at first, but was put at ease immediately. My surgeon was very nice and made me feel at ease by explaining everything. I felt no pain at all, just a little discomfort. The very next day I noticed a huge difference with what I could see, it's a miracle!!! I have no hesitation to go back and have my other eye done, in fact I can't wait. All I can say to everyone at the clinic, is a big thank you .
