  1. Review titled EAU experience

Rated 3 stars out of 5

by Anonymous - Posted on 20 February 2024

I cannot fault the staff and treatment I received from AAU however being on EAU for 3 nights is nothing short of horrific. I myself am very unwell yet day and night the comings and goings of new patients, the noise and disturbance is relentless with no regard for the well-being of other patients. Could new patients not be booked in, questions asked and settled before taking them to a bay so as theres as little disruption to other patients already there. There is no noticeable air exchange in the bays as the smells on some occasions were noxious making it a very unpleasant place to try to sleep and recover. I appreciate the staff are overstretched and doing their best but please have some sympathy for those of us who are also very unwell but not needing as much support. My other issue is only 1 toilet available per bay and no others unless walking some distance to another bay which may also not be available, this is not acceptable when some patients have urgent need and waiting is not an option, it is demoralising. This is being typed at 01.06 after hours of disturbance and zero chance of resting or sleeping plus the smell currently in my bay is disgusting.

  2. Review titled Poor communication from surgical team after operation

Rated 4 stars out of 5

by Anonymous - Posted on 22 February 2024

Arrived on ward 10 at 7:45am as requested. Went to nurse station to check in, nurses seemed miserable and not welcoming. After handover, nurses were friendly and could not fault them. Spoke to surgical team at 8:15am who said a prescription would be done for strong painkillers etc for discharge. Daughter had surgical procedure at 12ish, back on ward before 1pm. Daughter was offered small tub of ice cream and a drink. Few hours (4 in total) passed and no more food was offered. Daughter was starving as been nil by mouth since evening before. Nurse said they were chasing discharge letter and then we could go. I mentioned about medication that was agreed by surgical team. Nurse knew nothing about it and attempted to contact surgical team. Surgical team had gone home. Seems like there is no process to check that surgical team have completed everything before going home or if their input is required for prescriptions etc. Nurse had to then track down another dr to write prescription. This also took time. Eventually I was provided with prescription which I had to collect from outpatient pharmacy before they closed. My daughter was still on the ward and had not been discharged, yet I had to collect prescription medication. This took another 30 min wait. Also no one from surgical team spoke to us after the operation where I would have asked questions about how well the surgery went. A complete lack of communication after surgery, lack of food after surgery and surgical team going home without completing tasks or ensuring the at everything was done to enable patients to go home.

  3. Review titled My Daughters Surgery

Rated 5 stars out of 5

I would just like to say how fantastic the team were on ward 10 my daughter received the upmost care and support from all staff including the anaesthetist and surgeon. My daughter had real high anxieties and they moved her ip the list so that she didn’t become more anxious. They even accommodated my 2 autistic sons whilst i waited for my daughter to come out of surgery. A massive thank you for making this experience more comfortable and easier and for the above and beyond help and support you gave me and my children as a whole. All staff were kind considerate and very welcoming I couldn’t of asked for a better team of nurses/doctors/anaesthetist and surgeon that day. Well done to you all keep up the good work.

Out in 10 minutes, despite full waiting area. Again most courteous and helpful staff and put you at ease. What a shining beacon yr hospital is. You should be proud.

  7. Review titled Amazing!

Rated 5 stars out of 5

by Anonymous - Posted on 01 March 2024

We had a stay in Ward 10 and the care was amazing. I felt listened too for the first time after lots of visits to the GP. All my concerns were taken into account and I finally felt like I was being helped and supported. All of the nurses were exceptional, no question was too much to ask and they were always there to help. I could not fault the ward in any way at all. You are all amazing Thankyou!

  8. Review titled A week in ICU

Rated 5 stars out of 5

An acute chest infection and a heart attack nearly knocked me off my perch but the outstanding team in the ICU showed great care, professionalism, humanity and compromise in getting me back on my feet - I must say supported by superb technology and processes. Thank you one and all.

  10. Review titled Sufficient, friendly and caring.

Rated 5 stars out of 5

by Meredith - Posted on 27 January 2024

I attended accident and emergency in Friday morning and was seen by a physician associate within 3 and a half hours. Despite the department being extremely busy with no spare seats at all. The physician associate was fantastic and very thorough. I then had an MRI scan within 4.5 hours of being in accident and emergency. Again, very impressive as I know these are hard to come by; especially in an extremely busy hospital. All the staff were professional, caring, attentive and friendly. I was then seen by the orthopaedic team and registrar who were extremely thorough, ensuring they checked with experts at another hospital before my discharge. Whilst the whole experience was scary for me and overwhelming, I couldn’t fault the staff who were clearly very stretched that day but ensured things were done thoroughly which puts patients minds at rest when they’re at their most vulnerable state. Thankyou to all the staff in Yeovil for all the hard work you do. From accident and emergency staff, to the radiology team.
