i’m currently sat in the car park whilst my extremely poorly son and panic stricken wife are at the a and e 1 parent per child in the waiting area apparently and i’ve been kicked out. 10 year old son distraught. the board on the wall indicates a 12 hour wait. genuinely appalled. nhs, disgraceful!! ps. this app does not let you use capital letters. they can’t even sort this out.

Review titled excellent experience in endoscopy suite
Rated 5 stars out of 5
by Karyn Butler - Posted on 27 November 2022
I visited for a colonoscopy this morning. The staff in endoscopy from start to finish including reception were helpful, caring and extremely professional. The staff who carried out the procedure were kind and reassuring and there was barely any discomfort. Thank you all so much. I have visited Whiston Hospital a few times during the last 12 months for various reasons and believe it must be one of the best hospitals in the country. Best wishes to you all.

Review titled Fantastic team on the ward
Rated 5 stars out of 5
by Denise Hayhurst - Posted on 09 December 2022
I was admitted on 30/11 via a&e with a nasty abscess on my foot. Nurses wereo extremely friendly, informative and reassuring at all times. I was due to have an op to clear the abscess but at the last minute it was cancelled as I was responding well to iv antibiotics. I had been nil by mouth for 15 hours and straight away the nurse ran in with a sandwich and a cuppa!! I felt very secure at all times and bloods etc explained to me. I am extremely proud of our hospital and the wonderful staff on 3b

Review titled Shocking start to finish
Rated 3 stars out of 5
by Jacqueline Corcoran - Posted on 10 November 2022
Told to come in 11am on 9 November for an afternoon procedure (having waited 17 months and being hospitalised end September) to be left sat in a tiny box of a waiting room on 4 B for 5h. Only when I went to see what was happening at 3pm was told there had been an emergency. That’s fair enough but zero information. Eventually got a theatre slot. No bed available on ward. Told to get changed in what resembled a stock cupboard converted into a “changing room” with no door only a curtain pulled across, a hard slatted bench and a plastic chair to be consented. No privacy on a mixed ward. Anyone could have walked in. Very few staff available on the ward. Staff pleasant but clearly working in stressful conditions and overworked. So unfair Came back from theatre 730pm and given a room by myself thankfully. At 0745 this morning someone from a non clinical background comes round basically throwing a discharge letter at me, a few dressings and a box of codeine telling me i can go home !! I hadn’t even been given any breakfast until 845 because I’d been forgotten about after asking 3 times. Dangerous!! No information post op, until I asked to see a clinical member of staff about post op driving, diet, changing dressings etc. Diabolical. This trust is cutting very dangerous corners indeed. Couldn’t get a lift back until 1pm so was told by the non clinical woman with a clipboard to go and sit in the Transfer Lounge on another floor. Which basically consists of some more hard chairs as they’re desperate for the bed. Luckily I spoke to a sensible and sensitive member of nursing staff who very kindly organised a taxi for me, explained all the answers to the clinical discharge I should have got in the first place. On leaving the ward two other members of staff (nursing staff ) carrying in a row of waiting room chairs to seat those waiting for procedures - not even facilities management staff What once was a brilliant hospital has gone quickly downhill since the last time I was a patient in December 2021. This is not the fault of the nursing staff who are excellent and care deeply but are under severe pressure. I hold the leadership of the hospital to blame (many who are from non clinical backgrounds). My experience was unsafe. Largely upon discharge and should not be left to administrative staff who know little about conditions or post op care. I will be writing to Patient Advisory Liaison Service and the Chief Exec.

I would like to say a big thankyou to all the staff at the endoscopy dept, general surgery dept & colorectal nurses. Within 2 weeks of receiving the shock diagnosis of bowel cancer at the end of nov 22 I had a ct scan, met the surgeon & had my operation before xmas 22. Thankyou to nurses on wards 4b & ward 4c. The speed & professionalism of everyone involved is a true testament of how the nhs works. Because of them all, my prognosis is very good. Thankyou

Review titled Thank you for everything

You saved my baby and you gave me a reason to live! Until the last moment we tried to have it delivered natural but because of complications it had to be through c cection. I know how lucky I am and I'm very happy and grateful that I chose this hospital. The whole team, pre and after birth were amazing. My baby had treatment and I was able to stay beside him. I learned so much from the staff around me, it was like a school for mommy's! Now he is breastfeeding, happy, and everything I know is because of you! Thank you again, may God bless the whole team and see you again in future!

Review titled Great Caring and Professional Service
Rated 5 stars out of 5
by Peter Millward - Posted on 23 October 2022
Attended a&e 15/10/22 at about 1800hrs after a 6ft fall in my garage on to a concrete floor. Nurses were prompt to assess my condition and symptons and I was then seen by an excellent a&e doctor who made a detailed assessment, I had a cti scan and an x-ray and a blood sample taken. I have now been contacted as promised to have a MRI scan. Great Service and I was released by 2100hrs. I was very impressed.

Had to visit A&E with my grown up daughter tonight. A&E was very busy, however the care all staff gave my daughter and the other patients was exceptional. I would like to thank all the staff.

Review titled Benchmark for the NHS
Rated 5 stars out of 5
by Duncan - Posted on 08 October 2022
My visit to this hospital was a surprise due to my previous experiences at other NHS facilities. From parking the car to leaving one hour later. The staff in the department I visited (prosthetics) where excellent, helpful and friendly. More importantly they where efficient and professional. Having worked in the pharmaceutical industry, I must also comment on the cleanliness of the general hospital. Everywhere in the building appears clean and well maintained. A credit to all the staff.
