  1. Review titled Excellent care

Rated 5 stars out of 5

Taken by ambulance to A&E having COVID with complications. The staff were reassuring efficient and treated me with compassion and respect throughout. Treatment was explained at each step and I was settled in the COVID ward (Winyard) where I continued to have excellent care A big thank you to all involved in my care. It was a scary time but made better by very special people who worked as a team to achieve good outcomes. The only negative was the lack of cleanliness in A & E side ward.

  2. Review titled Outstanding care

Rated 5 stars out of 5

My daughter has been diagnosed with Jia in 2023. Her treatment and care was exceptional from day one. She’s been put on a treatment plan straight ahead. First, she has been given steroid injections at the Children a&e department. Every single person who was involved was going beyond and above to help her/us during the treatment. She had to go on a long-term treatment after. We’re so fortunate to have a brilliant, professional and caring Consultant, who has made our life nearly back to normal. With his and his team’s help my daughter can jump out of bed again every morning, not missing school because of sore knee and pain and can do all the activities that a 5 years old enjoys. Her treatment is ongoing so we have regular visits at the hospital. Communication is very easy with our Consultant. His Secretary is very quick to respond to us and always very helpful. Words are not enough to describe how thankful and happy we are with all the support we’ve been given all these months. I wish everyone can have a wonderful team to help them who’s battling with Jia. Thanks in a million.

Thank you so much to the nurses and doctors at Watford general hospital accident and emergency department. They are working under extreme pressures but every member of staff was excellent, kind and caring. I am very grateful for the care my elderly mother received today. The staff are a credit to the NHS working long hours under difficult conditions. The staff are competent and compassionate. Each and every one of the staff deserve to be recognized for their outstanding contribution to the NHS.

  4. Review titled Kindness & consideration

Rated 5 stars out of 5

I attended the hospital for a lung biopsy on 14/4/23 & afterwards spent time on the Day surgery ward. All the staff were caring & helpful & when I was discharged later in the day a staff member took me down to the entrance, carrying my bag to save my husband having to come & look for me. I was very worried about having to have the procedure but the way I was treated made me feel so much better about things. Thank you to all concerned

  7. Review titled Exceptional service

Rated 5 stars out of 5

After many years of attending WGH 2014-2023, around 7-8 periods. Some visits for only a few days and one extended period off 30 days plus. Each visit I would consider as excellent in both care and friendliness, whether it was under surgical, medical or vascular each department provided the best service. The nursing staff provided exceptional care and attention. I have seen many changes, all of them have benefited both staff and patients. It is always easy to complain about waiting times, delays and many other aspects of care in the NHS. In truth when you think about it, the NHS is there for us when needed.

  8. Review titled Lacking compassion and further advice

Rated 3 stars out of 5

by Anonymous - Posted on 21 March 2023

Attended on advice of urgent care at hemel to be assessed after a head injury. Was seen by doctor, who asked me to say when I felt a touch on me. Told I have post concussion and due to my age I dont need any scans, to go home and take paracetamol. No further advice on if I feel no better etc in so many days/ weeks etc, if I feel worse or symptoms persist. Just felt like a statistic, currently at home still feeling horrific but worried if I go back they still won't take it seriously. Ear pain wasn't even looked at.

I had 2x gastroscopy and dilatations done in the Endoscopy unit at Watford Hospital and can not praise the care I received enough. I was treated so well on both occasions, fantastic care by all staff. Proud that Watford Hospital is my local hospital.

  10. Review titled Very poor communication

Rated 1 star out of 5

by Annette Marsh - Posted on 09 March 2023

I attended the Ophthalmology Dept at Watford on 9 Mar 2023. I arrived at 9.05 am, in time for my appt at 9.20. I was called in around 9.40 and was told I would be having a couple of test, the results of which would later be reviewed by a doctor. I was asked if I was driving, and replied “yes”. I was then told that the tests required me to have drops in my eyes to dilate my pupils and that I would be unable to drive for 5 or 6 hours afterwards. I had driven to the hospital alone, from my house in Hemel Hempstead and saw no alternative but to leave the clinic without having any tests. The nurse did apologise and suggested I go to reception to make another appointment. Why was I not told of this at the time the appointment letter was sent to me? By sheer incompetence, you have wasted not only my time, but the time of your own clinicians. I find it even more galling, as the NHS is quick to point out to patients how much money cancelled appointments cost. Also, I really enjoyed paying the £3.50 parking fee and travelling to and from the hospital in appalling weather.
