  1. Review titled poor induction experience

by Anonymous - Posted on 06 July 2024

After over a year of trauma I’m now having the courage to speak out about my traumatic experience with North Tees maternity Unit. 11/6/23- I was sent in for a pessary induction. It started out terrible. I was there 5 minutes before being told “there wasn’t enough staff to monitor me and baby” (please take into account my induction was due to reduced movements). After this (3hrs after) I had my pessary inserted and my induction began. Nightshift staff came on, and I can not even describe the poor care I was given, very patronising, telling me I’m “clearly not coping” with the pain I was in. I was given gas and air and had the natural response of throwing up, my partner was told to let go of my hand, and clear up the sick for them, again, this wouldn’t have been an issue had they not used a patronising tone. 12/6 - no sleep naturally with the pain I was in, and I can’t fault the day staff, very understanding to the situation however still, no progress, lack of care, my body was starting to have enough after 3 pessaries (why there was no intervention I will not know) 13/6 - given the option for c-section for failure to progress. Was nail by mouth from 6am, by 1pm I was told I would be going down the next day and was moved onto a ward. 14/6- my daughters birthday. I can not fault the surgeons, however after my section, they wheeled me out in my bed, and hit my bed into a door on my way to recovery. When I was placed on a ward my newborn baby was put directly infront of a shared bathroom, my brand new baby. I told every midwife I came into contact with I wanted skin to skin. My daughter was born at 13:11pm, I didn’t receive skin to skin until 17:59pm and this was because they thought I was breast feeding, as soon as they realised I wasn’t they took her off me and placed her back down until I gave her a bottle. This ruined my bonding experience entirely, they stripped me from that. (My partner also broke down at the state of my care to which the midwife responded “you better go home, you’re clearly no use here”) I’d had a section, couldn’t stand up, this wasn’t a great response from them. 15/6- the day we came home, the nurse came over to me, and told me a doctor would come to speak to me, he never did, they discharged me with no information on the blood thinners I was to be taking, they let me walk out, no communication, it could have been anyone walking in and out. I personally would avoid this hospital at all costs, as I said, I’ve only just managed to get over my trauma from my birth experience, I had it stripped from me with poor decision making, 3 days of induction with no progress, complete agony, and no intervention from the people who are meant to be looking after me. Endangering my baby, 3 long days of hormones. Why I wasn’t offered a section sooner I will never know. 4 women came into the induction room and out of it before I’d even been offered a c-section. One woman as she walked past even said “aw look, she’s still there” shocking

  2. Review titled They really helped me to feel relaxed and calm

    by Amanda266 - Posted on 08 September 2023

They really helped me to feel relaxed and calm and also knew about any allergies I had and my dietary needs. They are amazing and I want to say thank you to all the staff at North Tees Hospital for when I got admitted with my high blood sugars, as well when I had severe pancreatitis and they looked after me on the ICU unit.

  3. Review titled Fantastic service

Took my elderly mother for an appointment today. The staff in the colorectal teams were professional, knowledgeable, friendly, kind, supportive, gave very clear explanations of procedures and options. Patient care at its very best and a fine example of collaborative working within that team.

I visited Paediatrics A&E with my son and husband early hours. The staff were amazing! My son has special educational needs which was was taken on board when examining and communicating with him. The doctor, nurse and health care assistant were brilliant and the doctor signed to him which meant a lot to me and my husband! You all do an amazing job, thank you so much!!

  5. Review titled Team work

On 28th May I was admitted to the stroke ward n was there overnight were tests were taking place with different members of staff on different levels from consultants, Dr's, staff nurses all from different steps of the ladder from those at the top to working down to the lovely lady cleaning the ward. The humanity these people showed to me while I was there was unbelievable nothing fazed them they had a smile on their faces n while 1 nurse was doing 1 jobs maybe It took longer than expected the other members of staff filled in paperwork for her. They all worked as a team if you asked for anything it was done for you . Myself its a wonder they put up with me as I kept asking if I could go home after tests were done and all was fine. I was kept in overnight as I'd had a minor strike. These angels looked after me there humanity laughter always smiling I will never forget ❤ good luck to the ones training and you all on that ward don't change your all fantastic 👏

We had to visit Urgent Care today because my partner cut his hand with a Stanley knife doing DIY. I would just like to say a massive thank you to the two fantastic ladies that sorted him out. They were absolutely brilliant, we laughed a lot, had a great chat and they looked after him wonderfully. Thank you

  8. Review titled Empathy and efficiency

Rated 5 stars out of 5

My husband has spinal stenosis. He is in great pain and his mobility is becoming more and more limited. Our experience of Orthopaedic Outpatients is of a caring team whose thoroughness and efficiency cannot be sufficiently commended. He has the option of an operation and the implications of this were most thoroughly explained. Kindness and consideration were shown at all stages of his contact with them. Thank you all very much.

  9. Review titled Staff In No Rush

Rated 1 star out of 5

by Anonymous - Posted on 22 May 2023

Spent 5 hours in a+e waiting to be seen after being told by 111 to attend as soon as I could as I needed to be seen within 2 hours. Mentioned this to staff, as 111 had advised me to do, just got told that I would be seen when it was my turn. Any time I would try and speak to staff they would just interrupt and talk over me, not listening at all. Finally got my bloods taken and was told that it would be an hour and half to get my results back and see a doctor. 4 hours later, still waiting. Finally saw a doctor who proceeded to not listen to a word I said and told me that I was wrong in describing my symptoms. Then got told I was fine and they were discharging me as they needed the bed. Total time spent at hospital, 10 hours. Staff just wandering about, making jokes, having chats about nights out and drinking tea. There were old people and sick children all waiting and not one member of staff seemed to be in any rush. Worst thing of all, however, was the fact that the floor of the waiting room was littered with drink bottles, crisp packets and just generally dirty, didn’t see one cleaner during my entire visit. I won’t visit this hospital again

  10. Review titled I felt I was rushed through my appointment as fast as possible

    by statusqq78 - Posted on 16 May 2023

I felt I was rushed through my appointment as fast as possible. All the physio wanted to do was to throw a set of exercises at me and get me off their books asap, job done. By the time I left the building I'd already forgotten the exercises they had steamed through. No explanatory instruction sheets were offered, so I'm left to do exercises I can ill remember and in all likelihood will do incorrectly thus exacerbating rather than solving the problem. I feel I was discounted and am no further from understanding or addressing the pain I'm in. A frustrating experience that has left me rather depressed.
