Review titled Wonderful Doctor
Rated 5 stars out of 5
by Lucy - Posted on 26 January 2023
I was seen by the most gentle and kind doctor. It was one of the best experiences I’ve ever had in a hospital. Her manner was immaculate and she deserves so much praise. I felt safe and cared for, and I despite feeling very unwell she managed to make me laugh. Her smile is contagious, the world needs more people like her.

Review titled Still in shock after appalling experience
Rated 1 star out of 5
by Anonymous - Posted on 05 January 2023
Took a friend who’d had suspected stroke and had been on the floor at least 14 hrs, to A&E early afternoon 1 Jan after being told it was unlikely the ambulance that had been called would come out. Had to insist a wheelchair was found for him so I could get him into hosp but was told no one available who could help. After several more hours he was triaged then put into holding area in A & E close to nurses desk because of the nature of his illness. This area can only be described as a cattle market. No dignity or privacy given and nobody checking that people were ok despite having been there a very long time. Many more hrs later and after CT scan he was rushed into cubicle in the Red area and I was told ‘he should have been in a cubicle from the start.’ Patient remained there overnight then put into a bed in a tiny room where bed had to be placed diagonally & actually stuck out into corridor. Being claustrophobic he tried to get away and fell and had to ring his son outside hosp for help. He was eventually found and put back to bed. Was moved to a ward during my visit. However no one was able to tell me if there’d been a diagnoses, result of scan/blood tests etc. This patient had not eaten for 6 days and despite me pointing this out nothing was done to help apart from a tub of ice cream being put in front of him. He was discharged next day with medication etc etc etc. I could go on. I’ve spent the day trying to get someone to go to his home to help and eventually someone appeared late afternoon. York Hosp is unbelievably inefficient. Allowing for all that’s going on with NHS it’s apparent that nobody appears to follow anything through. No coordination, lack of communication. Great nurses and Doctors but where the heck is everyone else. Clearly you are got rid of asap if you’re not critical and once out of the door, forgotten about. Please god, don’t let me end up in this awful hell hole. But thanks to those who do try to help with limited resources.

Review titled Inpatient care
by Marcini - Posted on 29 March 2023
During a stay in the Orthopaedic ward at York Hospital I needed to attend to my stoma in bed, being immobile. It was a constant battle to get the nurses to supply and then take away the required bowls, bags, etc. They were obviously doing an "orthopaedic" rather than "gastro" job, except for one more experienced health care assistant who thoughtfully offered a box of gloves. Surely health needs incidental to the treatment being given could be described on the patient's notes to avoid this embarrassment?

Review titled Fantastic care and compassion
by Kate_123 - Posted on 08 December 2022
I attended Vascular Imaging today for a HSG procedure, and was understandably nervous prior to it commencing. Two lovely practitioners couldn’t have put me more at ease if they tried. Very welcoming, excellent communication skills, and compassion showed to me throughout. Really helped to answer any questions I had and guided me through every step! Thank you so very much, your care is much appreciated.

Review titled Great speedy care at A&E
Rated 4 stars out of 5
by Anonymous - Posted on 08 December 2022
I went to A&E around 9.30 am on Monday morning as my GP surgery would not give me an appointment. I had injured my ankle two days previously and it was very swollen and painful. I was worried that I had fractured it. After giving my details to reception I was then seen by a nurse with about 10 minutes. She directed me to Urgent Care. Again after waiting around ten minutes I was seen by a very kind nurse practitioner. She examined me and thought my ankle was not broken but gave me advice and reassurance. I was thoroughly impressed by the care I received especially after hearing horror stories of waiting times.

Review titled Mobile CT scan
by Adele74 - Posted on 04 November 2022
I would like to share the fabulous and caring service I received yesterday. The two clinicians I saw where reassuring, professional, prompt and extremely reassuring. I attended for a CT scan with contrast, my appointment ran to time and everything was conducted in a safe and professional manner. I can’t thank the two healthcare professionals enough! Fabulous service in a very uncertain time.

Review titled Broken!
Rated 1 star out of 5

After a recent visit to a&e I was left in shock. I arrived at 7am and was told I was getting admitted mid afternoon that day and sent back to the waiting room. Finally got a bed at 130am. Once on the ward I still didn’t see a doctor till 4pm. To say they thought something serious was wrong I was left. I don’t blame the staff, there just weren’t enough to help. I don’t think I will come back to York hospital again if given the choice. I felt like I was an inconvenience. I’m sure all hospitals are feeling it. When I arrived to be told a 3-4 hour wait to actually a 13 hour sit in a and e was not good.

Review titled So grateful for what you do
by Booster1 - Posted on 10 November 2022
Unfortunately I have been suffering with chronic Pancreatitis for 8 years & after 10 months of being well & flare-free, I had a small flare-up. I was able to return home & look after myself once the pain was under control, so I would like to initially thank the Ambulance paramedics, they were both great guys & got me able to move again. I would also like to thank the A&E staff whose care over the past 8 years has been exceptional, more so on the night I was admitted full of fireworks injuries, also in a really restricted dept due to the building work. Well done everyone, myself & most other people are so grateful for what you do. Thank you so much.

Review titled Birth during holiday
by ACharal - Posted on 01 December 2022
We visited York to see family and the Christmas Market in November. My wife was 38 weeks pregnant with due date being early December. This is our second baby so we thought we were prepared. On the Sunday my wife started feeling labour pains around 10:00am. We drove to the hospital thinking we were just going for checks. We walk in and were greeted very politely and nicely. Although we were not locals we were treated with respect by the Sister and midwives. The midwife checked my wife and said it looks like you’re going to have your baby here, which still makes me choke up when I think about it. We were nowhere near prepared for labour on that day but the positivity of every single midwife, experienced and student, as well as the consultants made us feel like it was the right place to give birth. Labour lasted about 1 hour. Postnatal treatment was fantastic as well with willing HCAs to meet our needs and help support us. I cannot thank them enough for their interest in making us feel welcome and supportive all throughout. We were seen promptly. All and all it was a happy ending of a weekend we will never forget. I want to share this story because it is worth sharing the positive experiences with the NHS of which there are many every single day. I bet that this was just another day for staff at York Hospital. For us it meant the world. Thank you
