  1. Review titled Children’s a&e- very quick

Rated 4 stars out of 5

by Anonymous - Posted on 03 March 2024

My husband and I were worried about our son (2 years) as he was hurt and out of character crying. Obviously it was quite upsetting. As we got to the children’s a&e reception we were greeted politely and without judgement. We were waiting for 15 minutes before we were seen. The nurse immediately knew what was wrong and after manipulating our son’s arm, we were sent on our way. Excellent service!

  2. Review titled Complete shambles

Rated 1 star out of 5

Nurses and Doctors were great when you finally get to see them. However, the whole system is massively inefficient. It was over 2 and a half hours before blood was taken for analysis and another 2 and a half hours before the test results were available. A large number of other patients required blood tests and similar wait times were experienced. Why not have 1 nurse or possibly 2 who do blood tests as soon as you arrive. This 1 simple thing would slash wait times at a stroke. It highlights a lack of management and organisation. This is basic time management! A couple of days later when I returned for a scan, it took hours before the scan notes were available at the secd. The member of staff who carried out the scan was doing the notes when I was getting dressed after the scan. The Doctor in the secd insisted that they did not receive the results for many hours after the scan was carried out. As far as I am aware, emails are practically instantaneous as soon as they are sent. I am sure that the member of staff who carried out the scan did not delay sending the results to the secd. It is also apparent that the front line staff are lacking in basic time management skills as they seem to wander around aimlessly repeatedly. Maybe the staff are trying to increase the "number of steps recorded" on their Fitbits! I was shocked at how badly run the department was. Management is clearly ineffective and ineffectual!

  3. Review titled Amazing experience

Rated 5 stars out of 5

by Kathy - Posted on 21 February 2024

Like many patients I’m sure , I was nervous about today’s scan . However from the moment of arriving at the check in desk to the end it was a flawless and caring experience. The receptionist greeted me with a smile and directed me to the seating area . Giving full eye contact all the time . So often these days you barley get a glance , and here it was totally the opposite . Right on time was called by a nurse who introduced herself to me with a smile . We chatted briefly into the room and she introduced me to the radiographer . She smiled and welcomed me too . I have had private treatment previously in my life just a couple of times , and I always felt I’d been treated as a person a human and not a number , today was exactly like that too . I was talked through everything with a smile and care and both ladies kept checking in on me to see I was ok . The department is fabulous as it’s new which did add to the experience too . The procedure was over quickly and it was explained to me what happens next etc We all said goodbye and I thanked them for looking after me , But I have been so blown away by today I felt I wanted to write and share it again to a wider circle . A totally different experience to other hospitals I’ve had in the past

  4. Review titled Excellent treatment in A&E and ward 18

Rated 5 stars out of 5

by Mrs Janis Thorne - Posted on 16 February 2024

I was sent to hospital from my doctor’s surgery on Thursday 8th Feb. My haemoglobin was 56 which I think was very low. Everyone was so helpful and considerate throughout my treatment. I spent four nights on ward 18 and I can’t praise the staff enough. They were friendly helpful and very professional, all you would want for a hospital stay.

  5. Review titled Mental health

Rated 1 star out of 5

The consultant who dealt with me tonight, pretty much laughed at my mental health. Said I wasn’t a medical emergency and to go see my gp I hadn’t eaten or drank in 4 days, blood pressure dangerously high but because I was breathing I was sent home telling me I had wasted time. I understand these departments are over run and very busy but tonight it was particularly quiet. Mental health and any symptoms that come with it are not a laughing matter.

  6. Review titled The staff are very professional

    by Becca92 - Posted on 04 January 2024

I wanted to say thank you to the Children's A&E department at Stoke Mandeville hospital. The staff are very professional and were quick to treat my 8-month-old baby. Wait time was minimal too.

  7. Review titled a&e good, sau and mau shocking

Rated 1 star out of 5

by Anonymous - Posted on 16 January 2024

Sent by 111 to be been , the A&E were fab , sent up to SAU/MAU where I was admitted eventually , wasnt listened too or believed about the severity of my pain , I was told I need an operation after tests and told it would be emergency , had catheterisation , the nurse attempted 3 times to to avail and made me not only in agony but two nurses were just constantly routing around to find where to put the catheter, im also waiting for a hip operation and have no movement in my hip as I explained yet one nurse was pulling on my hip , I ended up screaming in pain and my mum demanded a doctor to it, a doctor did come quick and completed ed to task at first hand and was gentle . After that the nurses were asked to clean up the mess of equipment by the doctor , one nurse then prceeded to take a sample from the catheter and managed to cover my mum in urine , she did apologise before laughing about it... this is the 3rd bad experience with with unit ...no improvement.... on the other hand the Mandeville wing and eye clinic are absolutely amazing , the difference before care is above and beyond on the unit .

  8. Review titled Exceptional service

Rated 5 stars out of 5

    by Kirsty c - Posted on 16 January 2024

Exceptional service from all staff at the accident and emergency department, Porters and xray team. Ended up having a nasty mishap in the morning and fell down hard due to ice. Was seen by triage team promptly and received outstanding care from every department. I was very well cared for by everyone and even the restaurant staff were so helpful and kind.

  9. Review titled I was impressed and comforted by the excellent treatment

    by Susand205 - Posted on 12 January 2024

I unfortunately had to spend 6 hours in A&E last Monday at Stoke Mandeville hospital but was very impressed and comforted by the excellent treatment I received from everyone in every department I visited. It was busy but my treatment was very efficient and with great communication from department to department. It ran like clockwork. Thank you to all at A&E for your wonderful dedication and patience.

  10. Review titled A&E? Not at Stoke Mandeville!

Rated 1 star out of 5

by Anonymous - Posted on 24 January 2024

It’s 2am. I’ve been in A&E with my 4 year old for 7 hours now. Initially seen for booking after an hour, then a subsequent 3 hours later it was confirmed he needed to go to paediatrics… an hour after that he was ‘booked’ again. It’s now almost 2 hours after that and the blood test and xray they want to do are nowhere in sight. Facilities are awful, nothing but a poorly stocked vending machine. My son hasn’t eaten anything substantial since lunchtime and all I can offer him is crisps and chocolate. He’s incredibly uncomfortable, no one is keeping us up to date and no other patients seem to be going anywhere either. Just a waiting room full of sick kids with the odd vitals check from a nurse while you wait. The sign says 6-7 hour wait and I can confirm that’s been blown well out the water. Feeling pretty low and not looked after. I will not be coming back here for treatment. I’d rather drive another 50 miles to find better care.
