Review titled Excellent care and attention
Rated 5 stars out of 5
by roni - Posted on 07 November 2022
Ambulance was quick into A&E assessed by medics, kept informed of actions and next actions. Detailed diagnosis and very detailed examination. I felt confident and the staff, who were working flat out because so many emergency patients were being brought in, managed to smile, be cheerful and positive at a very stressful time for me. At no time did I feel pressured or neglected. When you see at first hand the huge and relentless workload it is amazing that the team works so well and manages good outcomes for most. Of course, we all want treatment immediately and to leave asap, my experience was positive and I thank all the doctors, nurses and auxiliary staff at St. Richards for doing such good work in such difficult times.

Review titled Never again
Rated 1 star out of 5
by Anonymous - Posted on 18 October 2022
We booked an appointment through 111 and we were assured that a Doctor is going to see my partner between 3 and 4 am at the emergency unit. I was driving 30 minutes just to get there in the middle of the night from a different city. When we arrived we were asked to fill in a form because the receptionist claimed the book by appointment button does not work on their iPad app, which in hindsight was suspicious. Then came the surprise as we were told that we need to wait an additional 7 hours to be seen, which is exactly what we wanted to avoid otherwise neither my partner nor me could not even go to work the next day. The receptionist had the nerve to say that both of us misunderstood what what 111 said, when we confirmed 5 times with 111 that a doctor is going to check my partner between 3 am and 4 am. Then the receptionist even started moralising if we not read the news, that 7 hours is the wait time in every hospital. Checked, less than 4 hours admittance percentage for this trust is 57.2% in England it’s 71.1%. As if their job is to scare people away. Well done on that front. I’m speechless how they can operate like this.

Review titled Abrupt service
Rated 3 stars out of 5

Today I visited A&E and the triage nurse was so abrupt with me when asking why I was here today, cutting me short even though I hardly spoke…. She wanted me to answer her in 2 words…. Working in healthcare myself I can see that there was no care or compassion at all, they just wanted to dismiss my admission even though I was in a lot of pain and never visit a doctor unless I need to. She was so stressed and it was only 9:30 in the morning… not much hope for the rest of the day.

Review titled Computer says no

My husband was diagnosed with pneumonia and possible pleurisy on Tuesday afternoon and told to go to x-ray at 9 am the next morning unless his breathing became so bad he needed an ambulance in the night. On arrival at x ray reception we were told that no referral had been sent and there was nothing they could do to help.

Review titled Always treated with respect and dignity
Rated 5 stars out of 5
by Anonymous - Posted on 20 October 2022
Had to go for a sigmoidoscopy to check site following removal of sessile polyp 6 months prior as it keeps growing back. No surprise it had to be removed again. It was done all in same procedure only this time Argon beam diathermy procedure was performed to try and stop the polyp from returning. Staff are always very friendly and I've been treated always with respect and dignity. Luckily my procedures have run pretty much around my appointment tim. And I always receive a follow up call from the Bowel Cancer Screening Programme Nurses.

Review titled Terrible Management
Rated 1 star out of 5
by David Sheppard - Posted on 12 October 2022
My wife has been in St Richards for 5 days due to a severe back issue. She has been on a ward waiting for updates and a plan to help her whilst Southampton and Chichester argue over her case. Chichester refusing to undertake the scans requested by Southampton to ascertain why her leg no longer works and thereby blocking a diagnosis. The ridiculous bureaucracy and failure in patient care is farcical. The nursing staff in A&E and on the ward have been fantastic and are supporting my wife. Radiology and the Doctors are terrible and need to look at the fundamentals of patient care. They may be saving money on scans but that is negated by her taking up a bed for a week.

Dear Mr Sheppard Thank you for your post. It was good to hear that nursing staff in A&E and on the ward have been fantastic with your wife but I am sorry to hear you feel the Doctors and Radiology are not so. I would suggest that as your wife is an inpatient that you speak to the ward manager or matron for the ward your wife is on, so they can look into this for you and find a way forward. If the Patient Advice and Liaison Service can help please contact us on 01243 831822 or by email as uhsussex.palschichester@nhs.net, however it be best to speak to the ward in this instance. I hope this is resolved quickly for you and your wife. Jo Yearsley, Patient Engagement and Liaison Manager

I had a hysterectomy in October and I would like to say the specialist and staff were amazing. So professional and made me feel so comfortable and at ease, and I really suffer with anxieties. She talked about my procedure and totally put my mind at ease with it all which made the whole thing easier, even in the operating room the staff were lovely. The after care nurses couldn’t do enough and we’re so friendly and caring. I would absolutely recommend this hospital. Thank you to everyone!!

Review titled Rude triage nurse
Rated 1 star out of 5
by Anonymous - Posted on 25 October 2022
I went to a&e with a foot injury. I told the triage nurse i woke up and couldn't put weight on my foot although it had slightly improved throughout the morning. I was told very rudely and abruptly that it wasn't an accident or emergency and that i 'could put weight on it now'. She told me they are very busy with a 7 hour wait. While i appreciate the stains on the nhs, I expect to be spoken to with some respect. I was shocked by how rude she was
