  1. Review titled Terrible

Rated 1 star out of 5

by Anonymous - Posted on 10 January 2023

Having waited in A&E for over 28 hours with my sister, this includes being left on a trolley in the corridor, watching the literally walking wounded as there were 21 ambulances outside, so none available for other patients. Absolutely shocking, Staff at breaking point. Health and Safety should come here and look at the parking for the ambulances, parking on red double lines, people unable to get dropped off and try and navigate getting a taxi due to the blockage of ambulances waiting. Shame on you Mid South Essex hospital foundation!

  2. Review titled Compassionate and efficient

Rated 5 stars out of 5

by Anonymous - Posted on 12 November 2022

From the minute I arrived to the moment I left I was treated with compassion and efficiency. I checked in, saw a gp, had an x-Ray and was given the results together with prescription and an in-depth discussion on follow up care all within 45 minutes. Thank you so much to all at A&E

  3. Review titled Poor follow up after discharge

Rated 1 star out of 5

by Robert Warner - Posted on 17 November 2022

No follow up after discharge. Discharge letter clearly states that leg brace should be removed on 6th of Nov. After days and days of telephone calls an appointment was made for 9th Nov only to be told a doctor must agree the removal. After 2 days of phone calls a Doctors appointment for 14 Nov only to be told a physio has to remove the brace the paper work will take up 2 weeks to typed before an appointment can be made. This will be 4 weeks after the date it should have been removed. Leaving the person in pane and discomfort. The person also had been admitted for stroke this side of the service was excellent. Still at this time awaiting a appointment. Ward staff were excellent follow up by Orthopaedic very poor.

  4. Review titled Care and professionalism

Rated 5 stars out of 5

by Grateful - Posted on 16 February 2023

My Niece has learning disabilities and needed a mastectomy in November. We have also needed to return to the Breast Unit a few times due to an issue which is nobody's fault. She has been treated with respect and kindness at all times. Each member of staff has listened to, and answered, her questions and fears. She has become confident with the Breast Unit - which is amazing. From our first entry into the Breast Unit, we have been aware of feeling 'safe' and comfortable. Due to the limited number of staff, we have felt as if we are visiting friends. Even bad news has been delivered with honesty, care, professionalism and patience. I have deep respect and gratitude for each of the staff and the team ethic in which they work.

  5. Review titled Highly satisfied with my care

Rated 5 stars out of 5

by Amanda - Posted on 22 November 2022

Brilliant nursing team and a great surgeon. I was given a step-by-step explanation by the surgeon and breast care nurse of the procedures and I was seen in a timely manner. Apart from the pre- assessment where communication could of greatly been improved by one particular nurse, this will not deflect from the overall care and post care I received. I experienced re-assurance and genuine person-centred care by everyone involved in my care and post surgery care, including the anaesthetists on my day of surgery, and post surgery to enquire of my well being, follow up was excellent. Also the nurses whilst I was in hospital were also lovely and food was great!

  6. Review titled Had to go to another Hospital

Rated 1 star out of 5

by Anonymous - Posted on 07 November 2022

We arrived in Pediatrics A&E on Saturday 5th November 2022 with my son suffering of strong pain under his bellybutton. We were concerned of appendicitis and this was communicated to the team. No triage done at all in 2h we were there to assess my son. We left Southend Hospital and went to another Hospital were he was seen in 15min after arrival (even when this Hospital had more people in the waiting room). The situation in Southend Hospital is absolutely disgraceful and only comparable to a third world contry. It is really concerning how patients are being left to their own luck and the poor level of care is being given. Urgent change of management, lives are in danger!

  7. Review titled Inpatient and Aftercare Experience

Rated 4 stars out of 5

by Philip Smith - Posted on 09 January 2023

On 28/11/22 I had a hip replacement. The operation was efficiently carried out and successful. The ward staff were unfailingly helpful and pleasant, if under pressure at times due to staffing levels. Post-discharge followup from the E R A N team was excellent. My only reservation is about the unnecessarily complex admission/pre op process, which involved avoidable hospital visits and multiple duplications of tests/paperwork. Overall, a good experience.

Rated 5 stars out of 5

    by Gill S - Posted on 17 November 2022

I wanted to pass on my compliments to the emergency treatment unit at Southend hospital, I had a fall today and was undecided whether to go as I knew I could be waiting for ages. I arrived at 1.30 saw a nurse, had x-rays, stitches, splint on my hand and a tetanus jab, all within an hour. Thank you so much, I was very impressed. You all do a wonderful job

  9. Review titled They are the nation angels

Rated 4 stars out of 5

by Szilvia Krekovic - Posted on 05 October 2022

had a very bad I thought gallbladder attack Saturday morning. The pain elevated till Sunday morning in severe pain. We went to A&E after 5 hours horrendous pain(it's sound horrible to wait so long in pain but they working inside so hard that they be able to see people) I got in to see the assessing nurse, got oral morphine, they sent me out to wait for to see a doctor. The Oral Morphine helped nothing. Second dose still helped nothing. After nother 2h waiting I got to see a doctor who straight away picked it out that I have something else going on than my gallbladder stones. Thank you for the doctor, they kept me in overnight on antibiotics and drips. Blood test, ECG Monday morning had a CT scan. And result was perforated appendix. Monday early afternoon had a surgery, It all went well. Thank you for all the team, nurses, health care assistants, anaesteoligist, doctors, surgeons.
