Review titled Terrible care
by Azra - Posted on 03 November 2024
The care at Urgent Treatment Centre is very below standard. My brother who has underlying conditions was told to go to the hospital if he deteriorated by his GP. He was constantly vomiting, couldn't swallow or talk. We were told by a dr on duty that he needs to go back home and eat and drink. We were told there was no specialist care here. So when pushed for a referral the dr was like we will see if they accept you. He wasnt treated with dignity or respect. We were then told to get out the room as the dr had other patients to treat. Awful behaviour zero empathy no understanding at all. If you are ill dont bother going to this hospital. You will be told just to go home and suck it up

I attended this department today for laser treatment. All staff were excellent, they were pleasant and put me at ease before and during the procedure. They were also extremely kind to a patient who suffered with dementia, helping her and the people who were with her. Well done to all the staff.

I visited the urgent care on the 20th October this year as I was having pain in my lower stomach and i was just worried about the pain I was in The staff member who saw me for triage was very kind about giving me the correct care But I wasn’t happy with the wait time as it was really busy as there was lots of people and by the time I came out it was like 5pm which I didn’t expect to be coming out at that time I’m glad tho I found out what was wrong with me which put me at ease but I was just disgusted the fact I was waiting a while than I intended to because of the pain I was in which wasn’t nice even though I could have spoken to them about the pain on who was on reception that day but I just didn’t want to make a fuss as I know how stressful it must be for them

I got to take to hospital by ambulance early hours Sunday morning, I was seen pretty quickly despite the waiting room being full. I had an ECG by a lovely lady who was very caring and so easy to talk to, I can't remember her name. I was then seen by a doctor who was also so lovely! He was wearing black scrubs, the lady who did my ECG had red hair. These two individuals made my visit to the emergency very pleasant even though I felt unwell. They were caring and took the time to actually listen to me and put me at ease, they are a credit to this hospital.

My sister and I just visited our very unwell elderly grandmother at AMU Rainbow Ward. My sister had her newborn baby with her who was not allowed on the ward. Despite being extremely busy, a nurse was able to bring our grandmother out of the ward on her bed so she could meet her great granddaughter. The nurse even offered to take photos, which we hadn't thought to do ourselves. These photos will be very precious to us and we are so grateful to the nurse for all her efforts and thoughtfulness. Thank you so much.

Review titled Friendly quick, professional and caring

From start to finish the staff were so friendly professional and caring. Every interaction was a positve one. We had prepared to be several hours due to it being a Friday, however this was not the case. The movement through the process to be seen was seamless. Every department was clean well organised and most of the staff were so professional, engaging and showed a caring and friendly demenure. I would like to thank all the team on duty 13th September 2024 at 6.15pm till 8.30. If I can give any feedback it was that it is difficult to locate a wheelchair if required when trying to get into A&E we were lucky that my husband got one when someone had finished with it and getting into the car , many people were hunting for chairs.

Review titled Not a nice experience
by Chloe - Posted on 11 September 2024
I went to the gynaecology department ward B5 6pm Sunday 8th September. After being sent up from urgent care with suspected appendicitis. My experience was a scary one as I was in a lot of abdominal pain. I had my bloods taken and was left to sit in the waiting room until the results came back. I was offered no pain relief at all until I asked for it. And everybody in the waiting room looked fed up. The nursing staff were congregated at the nursing station laughing and joking. They didn't come to check if we were OK until they had a result in to talk to someone. Finally sent for a CT scan. Came back and i was then admitted on to this ward with a suspected twisted ovary. By this time it had been 16 hours of being sat about in pain. I was shown to a bed. Told I was nill by mouth and that she would put me on a fluid drip. I didn't see her for 30 minutes. I wasn't shown how to use the bed. How to get the nurses attention. I wasn't offered a gown. So was left to sit in bed in my dirty clothes. Was not shown where i could wash or if I could have a towel or anything. The only reason I knew was because some of the patients came and showed me. They told me if I want something I need to keep asking because the nursing staff ignore you. It felt like I was more of a hindrance for them. I heard nursing staff gossiping about patients on the ward. Laughing and joking about them. This made me feel really uncomfortable and also scared that I didn't have a voice. That I should shut up because I didn't want them to talk about me too. The only time nurses talked to us was to ask what meds we wanted next. I watched a nurse degrading a trainee nurse that was shadowing her. This was cruel to watch. She looked like she didn't want to be there. when I asked what was going on with me no one knew. They all said something different. I was then all of a sudden being give stockings for surgery for the next morning. I said so can i eat now. She said yea like I was supposed to know this. Again I felt no proper care was given and certainly no clear information. We all felt ignored. The next day I woke up prepared for surgery. Only to be told that they weren't doing the surgery anymore. And she said oh did no one come to tell you last night? I said no they dressed me in stockings and left me. She dressed me In these whilst I was still in my dirty clothes. The junior doctor gave me a very short speech about why they weren't doing it. I said I was still in the same pain today [Tuesday 10th) as I was when I came in. Asked what could happen. She said your cyst could rupture, stay the same or grow. She gave me no aftercare advise and left me. The nurse said I could go. I asked her for pain relief prescription. I waited for 30 minutes. The nurses then got into an argument and were shouting in the corridor at each other. I then had to go ask again. She said oh sorry I forgot. Finally left feeling dirty and left to rot. Feel sorry for the patients there

Admitted with acute rectal bleeding after waiting in a+e. Seen by doctor and surgical team in b5 ward and subsequently moved to c6 ward. Beds quickly available. The surgical teams in the wards and endoscopy were exceptional, professional, thorough and reassuring as was the consultant. Tests (ct scan, flexi colonoscopy, bloods) were swiftly put into place and results were really quickly returned. But my main praise was with the nursing staff in both b5 and c6 wards. Each nurse/dr checked for identity before administering any medication or tests (very reassuring). It's only when you're lying there in bed as a patient do you see how professional and kind they are to all patients not just to me. Each nurse and Health Care workerss including two student nurses were efficient, thoroughly diligent and attentive at all times day and night, and treated elderly patients with utmost dignity and kindness - making sure they were comfortable, given water, a cuppa, food, light, and all the necessary medical observations taken throughout the night with quiet reassurance. Any buzzer from a patient was attended to immediately. The nurses spoke to each patient in a way which was so professional yet personalised. One nurse had a pronounced accent which one or two elderly patients (who may also have had hearing difficulties) found difficult to understand, but she persevered patiently with questions to find out how they felt and whether they needed anything. They were always visible when needed and provided a very reassuring presence in the ward. The last time I was admitted to a hospital was aged four in 1965 and so I had no idea what to expect. I was there for three nights and it was a real eye-opener for me.
