  1. Review titled Difficulty in contacting appropriate department

Rated 3 stars out of 5

by David Busby - Posted on 17 April 2023

There is a similar report to mine regarding attempted contact with the neurology department. I was seen as an Nhs patient at Fulwood hospital in January when the consultant I saw said that I needed a scan on my spine, and that Preston hospital had the equipment which could deal with my pacemaker. He told me that this would be arranged at Preston, and that I would get an appointment there. As it is now nearly 4 months since my Fulwood appointment I am getting concerned about whether my details have been lost, or whether a letter to me with an appointment has gone astray. I, like another reviewer, have had huge difficulty in trying to contact the Neurology department. The telephone numbers I have been given are never answered however long I wait. Looking at the Neurology department on the website I see that the normal waiting time is just over 1 year so I suppose that I must just wait to be contacted. My problem is that my walking ability reduces by the week, and it is beginning to worry me. If anyone in the Neurology department reads this please see if my name David Busby is still in your files. A comment would be very much appreciated.

  2. Review titled Amazing staff in the vanguard theatres

Rated 5 stars out of 5

by Douglas potter - Posted on 23 January 2023

All i seem to see these days is negative reviews and bad experiences aimed at the royal preston hospital so i thought I’d leave my positive review after having surgery on my sinuses today. My appointment was in the theatres today (in this case it was at the vanguard theatre which they are using to try and get rid of some back log) I can honestly say it was amazing as can be. All the staff were very friendly and very reassuring which helped me so much! From the lady on the main desk to the doctors and everybody else involved they was all brilliant. I won’t go into too much detail but i had work done to help try solve a on going sinus issue and also an awkward wisdom tooth removed. I’ve been very nervous about the whole thing and so grateful the staff helped to make me relax and take my mind off things. I hope this can be shared to maybe help people like myself in similar situations to give them a bit of reassurance i needed myself.

  4. Review titled All the staff were brilliant

    by James45 - Posted on 24 January 2023

I have just completed five weeks radiotherapy and chemotherapy at the Rosemere Centre. All the staff were brilliant. Everything was explained to me and I received treatment in a professional and caring manner The staff went out of their way to make you feel relaxed. Bowland house is a brilliant facility. However there were problems for all the people staying there with the hot water system not working, meaning no hot showers were available. This important matter was quickly resolved when it was brought to the attention of the Head of Radiography. The care and reassurance given to myself and my wife made a difficult situation a lot less stressful. Thank you all at the Rosemere Centre.

  5. Review titled Great care, shocking food!!

Rated 4 stars out of 5

by Anonymous - Posted on 15 January 2023

Cant fault the care for the most part but considering I have now been an in patient for more than 2 weeks I feel the need to report the absolutely shocking food! I understand that this is now bought in? Well I'm sorry but what an utter waste of funds whoever this is bought in from needs to do better! Chicken in what can only be described as curdled cream sauce? Yes it had actually curdled! Recycled from Fridays leftnover pie filling im guessing! Porridge that is no more than runny cold milk with a few oats at the bottom of the bowl! Great choice options so long as you don't mind glorified microwave meals, pre packed salads and sandwiches. I actually have photos and videos as evidence of some of the utterly shocking "meals". How anyone is expected to get better when given this is beyond me! And to add insult to injury I've caught covid from the ward I'm on, been in isolation a week and only today has my bedding been changed! I understand the need for precautions but christ I'm no leper! Some clean bedding isn't a lot to ask for!

  6. Review titled Great care in poor facilities

Rated 5 stars out of 5

by Peter Thornton - Posted on 14 December 2022

Great care from a good team and appreciated a call that evening from the surgeon checking how things were. Car parking is a nightmare as is finding the best entrance near Ward 4. It would be good if it were possible for blue badge owners to apply online beforehand rather than having to go to the main entrance - with the disabled person on the badge. Every appointment should have a good map of the site with it, that would make things much easier. Parking in the main car park (A?) there is no sign to the main entrance. It’s not obvious where it is, to a first time visitor. This isn’t meant to sound negative - the important part - the care - is first class and I’d much rather have this than wonderful facilities and poor care! We need a brand new hospital on a new site, but until then it would be good to make it easier to park, move around and find the right dept. Thank you.

  7. Review titled Left in constant pain

    by authenticbd44 - Posted on 22 March 2023

I have been under this service for two years. My telephone appt was delayed by four months due to the consultant being unavailable. I have been getting near constant pain for weeks and contacted to ask for help and have been totally ignored. Have emailed complaints and still nothing. I’m requesting a transfer under right to choose. If my issue turns out to be serious I will be holding the service responsible. My GP says they can do little as I’m under the gastro service who are simply ignoring me. It’s appalling. Not sure if they are a particularly bad service or whether the NHS is falling apart.

  9. Review titled Exceptional care

Rated 5 stars out of 5

by Gillian Edmondson - Posted on 07 January 2023

Care on Neurosurgery Hdu was exceptional from doctors to HCAs, could not have asked for more. Food not to my taste not a fan of pre boxed salads but that's a minor issue. Consultant registrar who saw me on admission was excellent and did his best to put me at ease, can't remember his name as there was a lot to take in. Would have liked my partner to be with me but he was told he had to leave at the door. Was a little scary hearing what could go wrong when having spinal cord surgery and sat on my own. Anaesthetist who saw me on admission was very good and explained in detail what would be happening in theatre, but there was a lady in theatre inserting the canular who could improve her bedside manner she was a little bit abrupt when the canular would not go in and did not relax me. Not a complaint but at that point I would have happily got off the table and come home. Hospital in need of renovation especially on the trip for Dosa to theatre, peeling paint on the walls and in need of some Tlc. Obviously this did not affect my care which was very good. If I was to comment on one thing to improve it would be that when the doctors come to see you they explain what they are discussing with one another, eg what is a raised blood count and what it means to me as a patient. Only minor observations as my care in the NHS was really good. I should also mention the nurse who dealt with me on pre-admission who was extremely helpful and took time to explain everything in detail. Thank you so much all of you

  10. Review titled Pharmacy outstanding

Rated 5 stars out of 5

by Sue Highton - Posted on 10 December 2022

The person in the pharmacy organised delivery of medication for Covid and went above and beyond to make sure I received it. I can’t tell you how much that meant to me and wanted to thank them to show my gratitude. That gratitude is also extended to the person who delivered it as well. I wouldn’t have been able to get it in the bad weather and their efforts show how much we should appreciate the NHS and all the people who work hard in it.
