  1. Review titled Dedicated and friendly

    by melonkk97 - Posted on 09 June 2023

Went on for my first appointment due to a problem with my left eye. When I was seen by the scanning photographer it was clear I had wet AMD. As it was at a very early stage she arranged for me to see the doctor straight away. The doctor then started me on treatment and I had my first eye injection. I just have to say how good the staff were, dedicated and friendly, very well done.

Dear melonkk97, Thank you for taking the time to leave feedback for the Eye Unit. I am so pleased to hear that the photographer went above and beyond, and managed to get you seen by a doctor. I am also delighted to hear that the doctor managed to start you on the correct course of treatment and you had your first eye injection! I will be sure to pass your kind words back to the team, Kerry Trembath Senior Staff Nurse Ophthalmology

  3. Review titled I had no chance to ask anything

    by Janej94 - Posted on 16 June 2023

After breaking my wrist at home and having a back slab plaster on, I was given a follow-up appointment at the Fracture Clinic in Treliske. Even though I was still very swollen, I was sent on arrival to have a new cast put on and have an x-ray. The waiting time then to see doctor was over 2 hours, which I understand as it was very busy. But when I did see the doctor they were concerned as I did not have much movement in my fingers or my thumb. The doctor wished to examine it without the cast, so I went and had the cast removed and came back in just a sling. My arm was already really painful and this obviously didn't help, but I understood that the doctor was trying to be thorough. The doctor checked it over, called the consultant to to look, who said it would probably improve over time, so went back and got another cast on and another x-ray. Which I did again in a great deal of pain. Waited again to see doc, who them informed me that my bone had moved, and was back to what it was at the original break. The doctor went to ask consultant again. The consultant came back, took me theirself to the plaster room where they and plaster man manipulated my wrist back into position with no pain relief whatsoever! Then had a 3rd x-ray and was told to go home and they would check the x-ray. I have a follow-up appointment at West Cornwall Hospital, but I had no chance to ask anything about my care plan, how long I'll be in plaster, my concerns about my joints (I have 2 types of arthritis, for which I swim every week). I only have a number in case of emergency and no idea who I can turn to for answers. It felt very much like a conveyor belt for patients - all treated the same as this is how we do it. No thought for a widow in pain, living alone who has never has a broken bone before! So I went in with questions, ended up with a re- broken wrist and very little help or care.

  4. Review titled Really not happy with how I was made to feel

    by claired0205 - Posted on 04 July 2023

I had a video consultation with an occupational therapist and I am very disappointed in this. I was added to the list last year and got an appointment last week as GP expedited me so was given an appointment with occupational therapist, no questionnaires were sent out prior to the appointment and I am left feeling very angry at how the appointment went. I was more or less told that my symptoms were due to other illnesses I have but these are well under control and all blood tests show this. I was more or less told it’s because I’m overweight that is causing this, they said they thought it was sleep apnea, how can you offer a service that is done via video link and not even a full medical history to be done, just because I’m on the list for weight loss surgery doesn’t mean that my symptoms are related to weight. The reason I gained so much weight is because I am so totally tired all the time that any sort of exercise is just far too much! This service needs to be looked at and if you don’t have doctors or consultants then perhaps you should not be running a service. Really not happy with how I was made to feel on this appointment.

Rated 5 stars out of 5

Had my second cataract today and from the waiting list staff through to the reception staff, the nurses and theatre staff to the consultant were very welcoming and informative which instantly puts you at ease. Everything was explained throughout the procedure in a very understandable way. Quite simply, they were all amazingly fantastic and are an immense credit to the trust. I have no hesitation in recommending this absolute painless procedure to anyone who may have concerns. Please pass on my heartfelt gratitude and thanks to all concerned. Thankyou.

  9. Review titled Hand laceration repaired in theatre

by Loyaltothefoil - Posted on 12 June 2023

I was admitted to trauma unit 1 for 24hrs where the staff were excellent, working tirelessly through out their shifts, nothing was too much trouble. My sleep wasn't helped by a mattress inflating every 10 minutes but staff did try to help with he issue. The weekend trauma team could easily of left my procedure to be done until the next day but they worked hard to get me on the end of the list. The theatre staff were fantastic and made me feel at ease after a very stressful day, in particular the female ODP (who's name I didn't remember) and Dave the anaesthetist. Oliver the surgical registrar was very accommodating, patient centered and was more than happy to talk through any questions. The operation went smoothly, I had a regional block which worked very well and the surgical team facilities a prompt discharge soon after which was much appreciated! Huge thanks to everyone involved in my care!

  10. Review titled My experience after a fall

    by leopardpy56 - Posted on 21 July 2023

I was an inpatient at the Royal Cornwall Hospital in Truro. I was originally admitted due to requiring surgery. However after having my surgery I experienced what I was told as delirium. I was confused, agitated and anxious, this caused me to fall on the ward and sustain an injury. After my fall I was frightened and confused. I was unsure what happened and why. I felt alone. Staff on the ward were rushed off their feet, they supported me and checked I was okay but there was no follow up or support after this. Everyone seemed to care more about completing paperwork than asking me how I was feeling. I was scared to move, scared to ask for help if I needed something, and scared I was going to fall again. When I was well enough to go home. I was waiting in reception for my wife, I felt reserved and lost a lot of confidence from my fall. Everything around me felt overwhelming and I became anxious and tearful. A young member of staff who was dressed in a navy uniform walked past me and noticed I was upset. They asked if I was okay and if they could help me. They listened to my experience, how I felt and I felt heard. They were the only person who followed up and asked how I felt after a fall and if there was anything they could support with to help build my confidence. It is a shame I did not have the opportunity to share my story with them following my fall on the ward instead of when I was discharged to go home. As I felt this could have improved my patient journey after such an awful experience. I cannot remember what department they work in or their specific job role, but I wanted to thank them from the bottom of my heart for taking the time to sit with me, show compassion and empathy and sharing a smile. Their support and knowledge was very valuable and because of them I felt safe and reassured when leaving the hospital.Thank you. You are a ray of sunshine and brightened one of my stormiest days.
