  3. Review titled Hand laceration repaired in theatre

by Loyaltothefoil - Posted on 12 June 2023

I was admitted to trauma unit 1 for 24hrs where the staff were excellent, working tirelessly through out their shifts, nothing was too much trouble. My sleep wasn't helped by a mattress inflating every 10 minutes but staff did try to help with he issue. The weekend trauma team could easily of left my procedure to be done until the next day but they worked hard to get me on the end of the list. The theatre staff were fantastic and made me feel at ease after a very stressful day, in particular the female ODP (who's name I didn't remember) and Dave the anaesthetist. Oliver the surgical registrar was very accommodating, patient centered and was more than happy to talk through any questions. The operation went smoothly, I had a regional block which worked very well and the surgical team facilities a prompt discharge soon after which was much appreciated! Huge thanks to everyone involved in my care!

  4. Review titled My experience after a fall

    by leopardpy56 - Posted on 21 July 2023

I was an inpatient at the Royal Cornwall Hospital in Truro. I was originally admitted due to requiring surgery. However after having my surgery I experienced what I was told as delirium. I was confused, agitated and anxious, this caused me to fall on the ward and sustain an injury. After my fall I was frightened and confused. I was unsure what happened and why. I felt alone. Staff on the ward were rushed off their feet, they supported me and checked I was okay but there was no follow up or support after this. Everyone seemed to care more about completing paperwork than asking me how I was feeling. I was scared to move, scared to ask for help if I needed something, and scared I was going to fall again. When I was well enough to go home. I was waiting in reception for my wife, I felt reserved and lost a lot of confidence from my fall. Everything around me felt overwhelming and I became anxious and tearful. A young member of staff who was dressed in a navy uniform walked past me and noticed I was upset. They asked if I was okay and if they could help me. They listened to my experience, how I felt and I felt heard. They were the only person who followed up and asked how I felt after a fall and if there was anything they could support with to help build my confidence. It is a shame I did not have the opportunity to share my story with them following my fall on the ward instead of when I was discharged to go home. As I felt this could have improved my patient journey after such an awful experience. I cannot remember what department they work in or their specific job role, but I wanted to thank them from the bottom of my heart for taking the time to sit with me, show compassion and empathy and sharing a smile. Their support and knowledge was very valuable and because of them I felt safe and reassured when leaving the hospital.Thank you. You are a ray of sunshine and brightened one of my stormiest days.

Dear leopardpy56 Thank you for taking the time to share your story with us. I am sorry for the delay in getting back to you on here. I was saddened to see that you didn't receive any follow up support after your fall which resulted in you feeling scared to move or ask for help. I am sorry that you were left feeling overwhelmed and anxious as you were waiting for your wife in reception. I am relieved that, whilst you were feeling tearful, a nurse noticed and came to sit by you making you feel heard and supported. I am so pleased that this helped build your confidence. I am writing to you as a member of the Patient Experience team but I will ensure your story is shared with the relevant team. Please could you let us know which ward you were discharged from so that we can forward your story on to them? You can do this by replying to this story or sending us an email at rcht.patientengagement@nhs.net Thank you, again, for taking the time to share your story and for your kind words. Thank you Megan

  6. Review titled A short stay and impressed with care

by Strictly Treliske - Posted on 03 July 2023

I had a short stay on this ward which was about the nicest I have ever had at RCHT Treliske. Although I did not need the specialist services supplied on this ward for the extremely frail and elderly, I could not but be impressed with the levels of care and patience provided by the Health Care Assistants and general Nursing staff. The facilities are also very good.

  7. Review titled An exceptional a&e department.

    by aurigabc33 - Posted on 28 June 2023

Whilst on holiday in Cornwall my baby became unwell. I had taken him to the Royal Cornwall hospital a&e department. My experience could not have been more positive. From the moment I went in, the receptionist greeted me with a welcome smile and made the checking in easy. The nurses, doctors, consultant and domestic staff were caring, compassionate, approachable, thoughtful and provided the highest standard of care. Overall this is an exceptional a&e department.

  8. Review titled I have nothing but praise for the staff and service

    by statusfh93 - Posted on 30 June 2023

I had an outpatients appointment at the eye department and had to phone to say we'd be late as we were held up in traffic. As it happens it was only 5 minutes. I registered and didn't have time to sit down. I was called in, had the photos of my eye taken and was on the way home 20 minutes later. My appointment was when it was due (6 months from my previous one) and I was reassured all the way through the process. I have nothing but praise for the staff and service I received on this occasion and all the other occasions I have had to be in contact with the NHS.

  9. Review titled Dealt with efficiently and with much care

by Jood Falmouth - Posted on 15 June 2023

I discovered a lump after my two excitable dogs caused a bruise on my right breast I did think and hope that the bruise was the cause of the lump but when the bruise went and the lump remained - I got worried. I saw the doctor and within 2 weeks I had been referred to the Mermaid to get it checked out. Saw Mrs English who immediately put my mind at rest by agreeing that I was probably right in my assumption but still sent me for a mammogram and then an ultrasound to make sure. Just over 2 hours later - great news - it was as I thought, damage to the tissue from the bruise. I was dealt with quickly and with dignity and humour - very relaxed - what a lovely place with lovely staff in all departments I visited. Thank you so much

  10. Review titled The fear of the unknown was overcome through kindness and compassion

    by RayShell21 - Posted on 29 June 2023

I have been unwell for months, probably years, time seems to play tricks. My GP referred me to the hospital. Treliske Hospital responded quickly. Being autistic and I find unfamiliar settings very frightening, but the other patients and the hospital staff were amazing. Therefore feeling scared morphed into increasing curiosity about the procedure. My consultant was kind, listening to me on a very human level. Indeed, the eight or more people throughout the ward who looked after me were positive and treated me amazingly well. Oxygen is fabulous! And although I was very sleepy for several hours, well, days actually, the ability to breathe fresh oxygen was a most welcome gift. The fear of the unknown was overcome through kindness and compassion generously shared by all those who were tasked with looking after me. Thank you, NHS, and my team particularly.
