Review titled Wonderful care throughout
Rated 5 stars out of 5
by Sally Coe - Posted on 29 April 2023
I had to bring my child to A&E last night whilst visiting the area on holiday. From A&E, via theatres, to the paediatric ward - every single person we had contact with was kind, thorough, and kept us constantly updated on what was happening. Thank you.

i can not thank the staff enough who dealt with me this morning. starting with the 2 receptionists and the a&e staff who dealt with me. I was'nt expecting to end up in a&e this morning but was told by the 111 gentleman that i needed to get their. i was very well treated/looked after, right down to having a cup of tea and biscuits which helped to raise my spirits. my partner went with me for morale support and agreed that service was amazing. So a big thank you a&e team.

What can I say I was on Portland ward for 5 days for an eeg and video observation. Every single member of staff couldn’t do enough for you they were kind, caring and compassionate. The food was great overall I was made welcome amd they put me at ease amd made me feel safe. Considering I’m very anxious being away from home after my accident. Thank you so much to all the kind, caring and supportive staff.

Review titled Good clinical staff, bad facility
Rated 3 stars out of 5
by Anonymous - Posted on 26 March 2023
I was referred to Poole Emergency Department by my Doctor who had made an urgent arrangement for that afternoon, and was told I was expected. Although this did not appear to be the case on arrival. I was seen by triage quite quickly but after answering all the same questions as before I then had to wait several hours, before explaining and answering them all again. This time waiting would have been more bearable had the waiting room not been far too small for purpose, stiflingly warm and stuffy with no air flow. All bar one wore masks which was good but added to the issues breathing in an airless room. Several parents with babies were asked to choose which parent could stay as seats were needed, however some of them were distressed as they needed support. The waiting room is really not fit for purpose, no one communicates what is happening, ie: staff doing handovers/ large number of ambulance admissions affecting walk-ins/ etc. At least an acknowledgement of people waiting would help. When called through the staff were great, apologised and explained, they were clearly under pressure but made me and others feel valued. Perhaps Reception staff should follow this example, but most of all the hospital needs to provide a facility less like a small, cramped, hot box. People are scared/ worried/ distressed, uncomfortable/in pain and a more comfortable place to wait would not exacerbate their situation as it current does. Joined up Computer systems might help reduce waiting times too!

Dear Anonymous Thank you for sharing your experience with us and apologies the process did not run smoothly for you. There are certain pathways your GP needs to follow in order to alert our Emergency Department (ED) to your arrival and this may mean you would be directed straight to a specialist service rather than having to wait in ED. It appears this may not have been correctly actioned, leading to your delay in being seen. With regard to the waiting area and lack of space, we are currently in a major multiple site renovation with many departments being moved or working with limited spaces while the new build takes shape. Once completed the Emergency Department will be centred on our Bournemouth site and cover twice the space of Poole and Bournemouth combined. We appreciate the disruption and distress this work is having on staff and patients alike and can only apologise for the inconvenience in the meantime but we eagerly look forward to completion of the building when we can enjoy a spacious and modern environment. Thank you for highlighting the care from the nursing staff, despite being under pressure. Your feedback has been shared with the ED matrons who will share with the rest of the team Regards Patient Experience Team

The Urgent Treatment Centre reception team and nurse specialists have been amazing to our daughter. She has had to attend often due to a condition requiring help through the Urgent Treatment Centre. They have been kind, supportive and recognise her condition. It helps that team are friendly and willing to support in anyway they can. This helps are daughter through difficult times and shows excellence within the department. Thank you

Review titled The never ending appointment.
Rated 1 star out of 5
by Paul - Posted on 18 March 2024
I have just had my 6th appointment cancelled. Original appointment September 23. The 7th rescheduled now for May 24. I appreciate the stress the service is under, I accept there will be cancellations, but 6, that pushes the boundaries of hope! After receiving excellent service as an inpatient, the outpatient experience is completely opposite. I have low expectations of the May appointment being honoured.

I was recalled to have a breast screening assessment. Naturally, I was very anxious. The staff at the Breast Screening unit at Poole are a credit to the NHS. Great staff all working as a team to reassure and make you feel as comfortable as possible. The treatment and service were excellent all done by lovely caring compassionate professional staff. Fortunately my results were negative so very reassuring.

Review titled Amazing staff
Rated 5 stars out of 5
by Elena - Posted on 01 March 2023
We’ve had our first baby here just a couple of weeks ago and I can truly say this was an amazing experience mainly due to the midwifes, doctors and nurses there. The surgery team was amazing, walking us through every step and make sure that both me and my other half were okay every few minutes. They have even offered to take photos for us before and after the operation. Throughout the whole delivery they made us feel special, answered every question and clarified every concern, and I have to say that it felt like that wasn’t just one more surgery for them in a day at work like any other day. Once we were moved on the tcu we were again impressed by the care and empathy of the staff there. I’m sorry I couldn’t remember the names of all the staff there that were truly amazing, but I can say that every single one did an amazing job looking after me and my little one even though they sometimes seemed swamped and under immense pressure. The midwife that looked after us first in the surgery and the one that helped on the day we were released, and offering to help with the tongue tie before we were dismissed made a huge difference for my first couple of days of breastfeeding! I’m sorry I can’t remember the name of one of the student midwifes that were there on the last night but I can say she was clearly made for this job! Not only she was kind and caring, but was also extremely keen to help, extremely confident and seemed like she had been doing this job for over 20 years! This truly was an amazing experience for us and all the credit goes to the wonderful staff at St Mary’s!
