  1. Review titled Specialist breast feeding service

    I attended the specialist breastfeeding service at Ashfield Health and Wellbeing centre with my son when he was 10 weeks old for specialist breast feeding support due to issues with pain on feeding and poor weight gain. He was diagnosed with a posterior tongue tie which was felt to be causing this and was referred for ligation. Unfortunately I was told that NUH only see babies through their tongue tie service until the age of 12 weeks and as the waiting times were long we would not have been seen before this cut of and would instead need referring to Sheffield Childrens hospital. This had the advantage there was no upper age limit to access the service however the wait time was still over 1 month. I have found the community support and services for breast feeding really positive and helpful for me but this seems almost a waste if an issue is identified yet this cannot be addressed because wait times are too long and a 12 week old baby then becomes ‘too old’ to access a service. NUH is a tertiary children’s hospital with the expertise to manage complex and unwell children and so I doubt that a simple procedure such as this ligation couldn’t be performed past 12 weeks. Fortunately for me I was able to pay privately to have this procedure done for my son, and since then he is feeding better, has better weight gain and overall has less symptoms likely as a result of his tongue tie release. I am aware though that not everyone is in a financial position to be able to do this, and had I not been able to I am sure I would not still be breast feeding. I strongly feel that this service should be more accessible for everyone and reducing waiting times and increasing the upper age limit babies can be seen through this service is so important.

    Arrived in A and E with fast heart rate , taken in and decided procedure required to address. Moved to another area awaiting further investigation. Very good nurse came outlined everything but said long delay, still very fast heart rate. After several hours no sign procedure could be done. Told Incould wait further several hours or wait longer to be admitted, really feeling bad by now and fed up. Said I would be called about procedure to do urgently to slow .. went home disallusioned and v tired as feel like I’m constantly running marathon. Still awaiting notification

    Thank you for the excellent care we received on Monday morning. It was my daughters first experience on the adult wards. Receptionist, HCA and spinal fellow were amazing. Greeted with friendly smiles (makes such a difference) full explanation of interventions given and results of investigations. 5* Thank you

  4. Review titled 29 hours in A&E

    I had to take my husband to A&E in the early hours of the morning due to server trigeminal neuralgia attacks. 8 hrs waiting to see the 1st Dr who was very thorough and wanted a 2nd opinion which took a further 8hr wait. 16 hrs of people watching in the waiting area. Totally shocked at what some people actually came into A&E and how after a few hours wait just get up and walk out! I'd like to say a big thank you to the staff for continually keeping us updated during our wait, and then a trip round to majors for an infusion to help the attacks lead to another 13 hrs wait for a bed. All the staff involved in my husband's care treated him with great respect and care. The amount of patients on beds in corridors was shocking and upsetting to see, but the staff worked tirelessly doing their jobs. Being a patients relative and not a member of staff is the hardest thing to do, but knowing just the small things you do like letting them know what's happening and offering a cup of tea makes such a big difference at such a worrying time. While writing this my husband is still an inpatient, but that's a completely different story!

    On May 25th 2023 I had treatment at the Maxillofacial Department. I cannot speak highly enough of the Dentist and her supporting team. She and they were absolutely excellent. Pleasant, professional,calm and most efficiently reassuring. I am most grateful to them all. Sarah Mansfield

    Hello I wanted to give my many thanks to the nice nurses of resuss. bless them, I must have been out when I last spoke to a doctor in one of the cubicle areas. This was due to an accident last week, I must of had temp. loss of conscious or fitted as they described, was given oxygen, I believe some medication via IV I believe. Its unfortunate when moved to Majors it was a let down, I should have been moved to a ward regardless of blood results as my gp had advised. the resuss team. however were phenomenal.

    My mother (61yo) spent the weekend battling a chest infection, even being visited by paramedics who concluded it was viral and there was nothing to do besides rest and drink fluids. By the Tuesday at 5am my mother said she felt like she was dying, so my father took her to A&E where the triage moved her straight through to x-ray with suspected pneumonia. While being monitored there, she deteriorated further and the rapid response by nurses and a junior doctor led her to being treated immediately for suspected sepsis. She was moved to resus where she received the appropriate attention and medical treatment, and was well monitored and looked after. She spent the day being treated, having scans, and waiting to be moved to city hospital which happened within the 24 hours. Really happy with the A&E triage and with how responsive the staff were to her sepsis symptoms which could have been written off as being only pneumonia. She is now recovering. Thank you so much.

    I was referred to Eye Emergency by my Optician following retinal detachment. From the moment I first attended and booked in with the Receptionist until I was signed off by the Consultant post Op I received superbly professional, friendly and helpful support from Admin and Clinical staff alike. I can’t fault any element of the service I received from with communication or clinical delivery and my case was dealt with incredibly swiftly. Thank you for making it all quite a ‘painless’ experience in so many ways.

    I had a spinal cord tumour removed at the Neurosurgery department at the QMC in April. From my the first clinic appointment I had, through the surgery & hospital stay & follow up scans & appointments I have received excellent care from the whole team. I am very grateful for the professionalism and support I received. My consultant surgeon was excellent - very clear, calm & supportive. The team on the NSPU ward were wonderful including the services team giving out fresh food & drink as required. The nursing team were great & I felt very well looked after in terms of pain management & support. In addition the visiting physio was very helpful supporting with initial swallowing issues I was having. Additionally I would like to thank the broader team for their kindness. The hospital porter for helping me get my robe on pre-surgery when I was nervous, the CT & MRI scan team for wrapping me up warm when I was having a scan & was shivery post-surgery, the nurse who rubbed my wrist in comfort as I was going under general anaesthetic. It's hard to understate how much these acts of kindness mean when you are going through major surgery & I will always be grateful for the professionalism & kindness I experiences as a patient at QMC.

    After a 3 days of my partner struggling to breathe and being an asthmatic, she tried getting into her GP of which she was refused an appointment on that day due to it being an no emergency appointment, she was told to ring 111 or go the the local walking centre. She rang 111 who told her to ring GP back after sending them a message, she rang them back to be told no appointments were left. She attended the A&E as a last resort being 24 weeks pregnant she need some help, being in there 30-45 minutes she was seen by a nurse and told to wait in waiting room, 4.5 hour later she still hadn’t been seen by a doctor breathing getting worse had to leave due to using public transport. How is it that you can have patients that are showing signs of breathing difficulties who are also pregnant left to wait over 4 hours and still not been seen. Yet you can have prisoners and drunks come in and be seen straight away. Disgusted isn’t even cutting anymore from the NHS
