  1. Review titled Occupational therapy

Rated 1 star out of 5

    by K Bradshaw - Posted on 16 January 2023

I was advised 5 days ago that there was no treatment available for my condition . I was also advised that occ . health need to assess my needs before I can go home. The major problem is that it is impossible to contact this department to by phone or email to discuss the matter. It is left to when this department decides to turn up.

  2. Review titled Inconsistent care

Rated 2 stars out of 5

by Jessica Warren - Posted on 02 January 2023

I went into labour on the 28th December and the staff on the labour suite couldn't do enough for me, they were fantastic. They took care of me and treated me as if I were their only patient. However. On the 29th, I was taken to the Bonnington Ward around 6pm. I hadn't been asked if I wanted any dinner, but wasn't aware of what time it was as I'd not had any sleep due to a potential infection I had. I had to ask for food on the ward. To which I got given a sandwich??? I was told on the 30th I could go home, this was around 12.30pm. I was still sat waiting for the paeds doctor to come see me at 9pm. To which I had to assume I wasn't going home. Nobody updated me at all on what was happening I just kept getting told when I asked "they're on their way." Subsequently I had to stay another night unnecessarily. Whilst on the ward the care seemed minimal. I felt as if I was just shoved in a room out the way. Some staff were lovely, but there were staff members who would just come in and hand me a cup with tablets. And I had to ask for water to take them. 2 occasions I was asked "do you need it now" how do you expect patients to take 4 tablets without fluids!? When i was eventually discharged on the 31st the midwife that dealt with me went out of her way to make sure the Paeds Doctor saw me so I could go home. She was fantastic. However, my community midwife came on the 1st and asked if my stitches had been checked the day before (i had a 3degree tear) and had to be cut and stitched due to having give birth with assistance from forceps. My stitches were not checked at all the whole duration of my stay. Surely if my notes say I was taking 2 lots of Antibiotics due to an infection (that was being treated as sepsis as precautions) you'd think my stitches would be checked daily incase any further infection occurred? Is this not negligence on your NHS Trusts part. Fortunately they are okay, but a massive case of neglect on the wards part. A lot of the time I felt as if it was an inconvenience when I pressed the buzzer for assistance. I wasn't aware it was my job to turn it off either, which was impossible for me to do as it was behind me and i had stitches. I once heard a member of staff say (because the buzzer hadn't been turned off) 'what does she want' in a complaining Manor. The toilet wasn't exactly functionable. Toilet paper never flushed so was constantly blocked. The day I arrived on the ward the toilet had a bed pan full of urine in it, that I had to ask to be removed so I could use the toilet myself. As I say there were some great staff on that helped me out when I was upset about not being able to go home and my baby being distressed. But a lot of the time I felt like "just another patient." I think the wards should have a similar care to that of the team on the labour suite because, yes I was fine and am recovering well, but I'd been through the mill during labour and that extra bit of time and effort goes a long way.

  4. Review titled Amazing staff

    by Nottm2022 - Posted on 22 March 2023

My Dad passed away on the Gervis Pearson ward in Dec 2022, after being on the ward for approx. six weeks. Every single member of staff on the ward - day and night were just amazing (including catering staff and cleaners). The level of care they provided for my Dad and for the rest of the family was second to none. They call nurses angels for a reason (and healthcare assistants are the same breed). What was the worst time of our lives was made bearable by the care Dad was shown. It will never be forgotten. People are keen to tell their "nightmare" stories but we are less likely to tell/hear of the positives stories. Our NHS is amazing and the staff on the Gervis Pearson ward epitomise just why that is. Thank you.

  5. Review titled Follow up clinic appointments

    by Emmfn56 - Posted on 02 November 2022

I have been seen at the Difficult Asthma clinic. I have twice had my 3 month review appointments cancelled. They have changed a lot of medications. I was last seen in July. I got an appointment for late December today and then had an email letter to say that appointment is cancelled and my next one will be in April 2023. No explanation. I need to have regular blood tests on this new medication. I have no idea how I go about getting them. I am absolutely gutted and angry that I have been treated this way. Not for the 1st time

  6. Review titled Great service

Rated 5 stars out of 5

by Rosemary Ross - Posted on 01 December 2022

Had an Endoscopy 30/11/22 at City hospital. The service was impressive. The nurses, doctors were efficient, professional and friendly. This is how a NHS department should be run. Well done to all the staff. Much appreciated.

  9. Review titled Discharged with no help

    by plusxm76 - Posted on 23 September 2022

I received a letter today saying I have been discharged from the continence service because they say they have tried to phone me and have written to me and that I have not responded. They are saying they have rang me 4 times and that I have not answered - I don't go out! Also we have an answer machine and there is nothing left on there. No letter has been sent to me except for the one today. I don't think the service is particularly good. I am unsure of the position I am in now, I am exactly the same as when I first went to them. Cannot say that during the six months they have done anything for me, they just say 'more pelvic floor exercises'.
