Review titled Supportive but disruptive
Rated 4 stars out of 5
by Anonymous - Posted on 28 October 2024
Recently, I underwent a surgery at the Day Surgery Unit in Nottingham City Hospital. Overall, the service was very good, and I appreciate the doctors and nurses for their hard work and thorough communication before the surgery, making sure patients are well-informed. However, I was disappointed with the post-surgery care. Immediately after my surgery, my doctor left, and I had a few questions that came up. While they encouraged me to ask any questions beforehand, it would have been helpful to have a responsible person available afterwards to address any concerns. Though they provided contact numbers for emergencies, it would have been reassuring to have immediate support. Another issue was the noise in the post-surgery monitoring area. The duty nurses were speaking very loudly, creating a noisy environment, which was stressful after surgery. Patients in recovery need a calm, quiet place to rest, and I hope the hospital will consider improving this aspect in the future.

Review titled Follow up after surgery (2nd review)
Rated 3 stars out of 5
by Anonymous - Posted on 10 October 2024
After surgery you are discharged with a summary. See the surgon in 4 weeks time, that is in my case not reality. Got operated in August, follow up in November. November appointment cancelled, new letter arrives for a new appointment. Fine, I take a day off work (unpaid) and arrive at the Outpatient Clinic on time. I get informed appointment cancelled, no phone call, no letter or message about this. Now I get a new appointment for October, again day off no pay, but on Wednesday there is no clinic for my surgery, patients are seen on a Thursday. This is not Healthcare any longer, no individual customer care. Looking at the Trust Logo, "we put People First. It is our commitment that everything we do, no matter how large or small, should always contribute to improving health outcomes and experiences for our patients, our staff and our communities" I believe there seems to be a discrepancy what they think a patient defines as "individual care". I am sad and very disappointed to find myself in this situation. I feel sorry for all others you have no voice of their own to say something about their own experiences.

Review titled The best care imaginable
Rated 5 stars out of 5
by David Stacey - Posted on 15 August 2024
My wife had appointment at the ultrasound department on the 14th August but unfortunately tripped and fell in the corridor sustaining mouth injuries and lacerations to her arms..the staff from adjoining departments closed the corridor and continued to treat this as a potential emergency. The registrar and his senior colleagues were professionally aware of the risks involved to call for the assistance of emergency services and Truck 8914 arrived within 4 minutes and took immense care to treat my wife ..painstakingly peeling back and replacing lacerated skin to cover the wound to assist the healing process. Having transferred to The Queens A&E the care was equally diligent. My wife had blood tests a CT scan and treatment by the maxfac team together with a team including a theatre nurse who dressed her wounds .All of this care was orchestrated by a young doctor…sadly I cannot name other professionals involved but they were outstanding. At a time when it is popular to say that the NHS is broken and patients bemoan 6 hour waits…where on earth could you receive this amount of attention without a wait in line. My wife’s injuries were not life threatening but none the less traumatic and I feel reassured that the enthusiasm for the job displayed by every single member of personnel involved in our experience should give everyone cause to be grateful. Thanks…if it is possible please circulate this message to the ambulance service also your colleagues in adjoining departments and The Queens A&E I would be very grateful.

my daughter had a baby boy on 27th August at Nottingham City Hospital. I cannot praise the staff enough for their exceptional care towards my daughter her partner and me (her mum). We were all looked after so well by the lovely midwives and doctors after my daughter had to have an emergency C -Section and I cannot thank them enough. ❤️

Review titled Follow up after surgery 4 weeks
Rated 4 stars out of 5

I had a Parathyroidectomy and cannot say anything negative about the Admission Unit, the surgeon (plus Theatre Team) or the ward. That was very good. My concern is the follow up. I was discharged with a report saying I would be seen in 4 weeks for a follow up. Nothing happend, no letter, no contact no appointment. I tried for one week to call the Upper GI and Endocrine Surgery Department. For one week or more it was only a answering machine, the departement is not availble leave a message. I did on several occasions nothing happend. In the end I contacted the Surgical Care Practioner who has helped me with my open wound two weeks before to help me. Additionally, I contacted the outstanding Endocrine Surgery Senior Clinical Fellow twice for my wound and now because I have no fellow up. Both of these individual are probably very busy with other patients but I as a patient was forced to find a solution. After 4 weeks I still dont know if I am cured or have Thyroid Cancer. Beeing on a waiting list nearly 18 months when the surgery was cancelled before (room was blocked?) now having again to wait is not a nice experience.

Review titled Wonderful nursing staff
Rated 5 stars out of 5
by Claire Barker - Posted on 27 August 2024
My father who is being treated for cancer contracted COVID and was very poorly. The staff worked tirelessly, with kindness and treating him with such dignity, there was a point I thought he was not going to make it, and thanks to the wonderful staff he is coming home today. Words will never be enough to express my gratitude. Thank you just doesn’t seem enough xx

Review titled Parking is a nightmare!
Rated 1 star out of 5
by Bob - Posted on 16 July 2024
Your hospital has massive failings on its parking facilities, only a quick search online proves this. I came 30 mins early, but just couldn't find a parking space anywhere, constantly driving around looking for a space. I came as patient looking for help, instead I just went home, so frustrated and stressed having not seen anyone about my illness and ended up missing my appointment. Your hospital shouldn't offer its services, if patients face such obstacles and restrictions, such as parking their car! I feel very angry and disappointed, because when visiting the QMC, I've never had any such parking problems that your hospital seems to have.

Dear Patient, Thank you for sharing your recent experience of our City hospital parking facilities, we are sorry to hear that you felt you had to miss your appointment with us due to a lack of parking. City Campus is a much smaller site to QMC and the space to offer parking facilities is therefore limited. We understand that this can be frustrating, however we have many parking attendants on site whom are available to help you. We also encourage the use of the Medlink service than runs every 12 mins from Wilkinson street. We are taking patient feedback on board such as this, in order to review the parking facilities that we are able to provide to our patients I will forward your concerns to the parking facilities management team to make them aware of your comments however if you would like a more personalised response please contact us via the email address Pals@nuh.nhs.uk and we will facilitate this. Kind regards, Kelly – Patient experience officer.

Review titled Kind and caring experience
Rated 5 stars out of 5
by Kathy Donnelly - Posted on 23 July 2024
I found the everyone at the hospital to be kind, cheerful and caring. I was in the cardiac short stay unit for an ablation on the 4th July. I could not have asked for better care. On the 16th July I was re-admitted to Papplewick Ward after being seen in the cardiac short stay unit. The assessment team were brilliant. Everything was clearly explained to me and doctors, nurses, catering staff, carers and porters were all cheerful and caring during a worrying time. Thank you to all concerned.
