  1. Review titled Beyond expectations

Rated 5 stars out of 5

by Michael Barstow - Posted on 24 February 2023

I was admitted to the Lister on the morning of Wednesday 11/1/23 for spinal de-compression surgery following a diagnosis of severe Spinal Stenosis on 8/12/2022. Prior to my operation, my consultant, who was excellent throughout my time in his care, explained in great and clear detail exactly what the procedure entailed and also the risks involved, concluding that there would likely be a 2 to 3 month wait for the procedure itself. With all the bad news in the media concerning National Health Service delays, I was very pleased to be offered a date for my procedure of just 5 weeks from the initial diagnosis and on the day of the procedure itself everything went very well indeed and having been 'put under' at 14:30 that afternoon, I was awake again by 18:40 in the evening, and in virtually no pain at all. After an overnight stay I was back on my feet again by mid morning on the following day, and undergoing physio. All continued to go well and I was discharged to my home later that evening, with sufficient medications for the pain and with sufficient spare dressings too. Throughout my time in your care I have nothing but the highest praise for all of your staff involved in my care, who were all highly professional and highly personable. I had my own very neat and clean room in the new Treatment Centre for my post op recovery, I was fed regularly with three meals a day, and the food was good, and most welcome. My recovery at home has gone very well indeed, with but a few visits to my local GPs for dressing replacement during the first fortnight. The procedure itself was a complete success in my eyes and completely got rid of the at times, worst possible pain that I'd been experiencing prior to my procedure, and it was great to be able to walk more normally and do the many things that I'd not been able to do without much pain since the previous summer. So having now had my 6 week post op review, my consultant gave me the all clear and discharged me. In conclusion, I will honestly say that my experiences throughout from the time of the initial diagnosis, right through to my discharge yesterday has been way beyond my expectations, and I will remain forever grateful for the treatment that I received during my time with you. So once again, a big big Thank you from me.

Thani you to the Radiology/X-Ray department today for amazing service. I walked in without an appointment, reception were very helpful booking me in and then before I even got to sit in the waiting area I was called in for my X-ray with a very professional radiographer. I was in and out of the hospital in about 5 minutes, couldn’t have asked for better service thank you!

  3. Review titled Excellent treatment

Rated 5 stars out of 5

On 12th January 2023, I attended Accident and Emergency. All the staff were professional, efficient, capable and kind in their assessments, tests, treatment. I would like to thank them all, for their care towards me, and the ongoing service they provide, despite overstretched, stressful circumstances. The NHS and staff, including ambulance staff (not to exclude social care staff) should be valued, for the amazing dedicated service they provide, , despite inadequate funding and recognition. They all deserve levels of pay appropriate to their skills and responsibilities. Thank you so much, it is massively appreciated. A feedback comment - the door into the toilets in Accident and Emergency are very heavy. There is a disabled toilet, but it was in use. I was extremely weak and my friend opened the door so I could go in. On the way out, I was unable to get out, as I was not strong enough to open it. (My well and able friend was unable to open it with her left hand too, due to its weight). This would probably be the same for many older or unwell people. Please can this be looked at.

  4. Review titled Awful service

I’ve recently been to lister hospital woodlands clinic and they are very unhelpful and left me for hours misscarrying my child with no support or anyone coming to check on me they did not even do my observations and I’m absolutely disgusted they were pressuring me to have surgery when they wrongly diagnosed me with an ectopic pregnancy and then when they told me it was definitely not ectopic they still wanted me to take medication and have surgery and I was passed from doctor to doctor with no clarification of what was actually wrong I also called the hospital before I went there that I was bleeding and they told me to come down with in an hour and I will be seen right away as it’s urgent I waited for three and a half hours and I ended up leaving due to sitting in my own blood in a hospital where I was not being cared for

  5. Review titled Appalling appointment system

Rated 2 stars out of 5

Once a year I see a consultant in the neurology department, after which I am given a letter with an appt for a years time. Every time, I then receive another letter 2 wks later, that cancels the appt. The letter states ‘we’ll contact you’ to renew the appt but this has never happened!! What a waste of resources to give, then cancel appts in this manner!! Didn’t used to be like this, and I don’t understand why it happens every time now. This needs reviewing please please please!!!

  7. Review titled Fantastic service

I was referred to Gynae outpatient services by my GP and needed to attend firstly colposcopy and then Hysteroscopy clinic for treatment. Both clinics were so efficient, informative, friendly and quick. No waiting in waiting areas. And pain free, empathetic treatments. All the staff from reception to consultant and all inbetween were so lovely. A great team!! I thank them so much for looking after me. Felt well cared for.

  8. Review titled Poor information

Rated 2 stars out of 5

Was given an appointment via text in the 'oral surgery' dept. It is not listed on the Lister plan and after being sent to several different places via helpful but unknowing staff, I was stressed and anxious not only for my appointment but because I was then late. I spent 20 minutes trying to find where I should have been. If it wasn't for a super helpful woman on the eye clinic desk who found where I should have been, I think I would have been a weeping stressed wreck. So, huge thanks to eye clinic staff. The Dr I saw in 'oral surgery' (I never would have found it on my own and using the poor signage at Lister) was then dismissive, condescending and rude. All in all an unpleasant 75 minutes. The other staff I encountered were pleasant and tried to be helpful. Firstly, to help alleviate some of the stress, in the text stating where you have an appointment, ie Oral Surgery, include, yellow zone 2a. This is such a simple addition but would have saved me a lot of stress, at a time when I was already anxious. As for the Dr, I think he forgot that most people don't actually want to be at hospital at all, I didn't refer myself to his clinic, I was there due to a genuine concern. He was completely desensitised to any feelings, thoughts or concerns that I had. I certainly would not be in any rush to attend his clinic again but would probably attend a different hospital due to this interaction. Huge thanks to those staff members who were helpful, but seriously Lister, simple instructions of where to be are a basic must. As for the Dr, I wish that I hadn't been so stressed and anxious and challenged his manner at the time.

  9. Review titled Long wait times

Rated 3 stars out of 5

by Anonymous - Posted on 14 December 2022

Was sent to A&E by the 111 service after struggling with breathing. Was told on arrival there was an 11 hour wait but thought maybe this was an exaggeration. It wasn’t! The staff were rushed off their feet the whole day. They all worked so hard under such trying conditions and I take my hat off to them. They remained courteous to all the patients even the most difficult ones. It shocked me so much the change in NHS services….. the last time I visited A&E would have been 14 years ago for a broken wrist and things were not nearly as manic. Hope not to be back for a long time if ever!

  10. Review titled No facility for those shielding..........

Rated 2 stars out of 5

by Fred Hogg - Posted on 16 December 2022

Attended at 7.50 am and a sign was on reception stating it was a 12 hour wait to see a doctor. I had been sent to A & E by my doctor in the Macmillan department due to my fibrosis and pneumosis in her opinion I need to be admitted for intravenous steroid treatment, admittance having to be done by A & E. But with having to shield due to my conditions could not wait in a packed department I've only got to pick up one good chest bug on top off what I have and it's goodbye Vienna. Could someone please explain how I can attend the A & E safely ??? Past experiences have always been very good in the department, my personal situation has changed.
