  2. Review titled Skylark ward

Rated 5 stars out of 5

    by Em j - Posted on 04 January 2024

On the 30th of December our 5 week old baby became very sick. It was a truly frightening time seeing our baby weak and struggling to breathe. The skylark team were amazing. They could not do enough to help and were very reassuring. They all showed compassion and they went the extra mile. They gave amazing care.

Everyone was so friendly and helpful, from reception to the nurse in wellbeing to the radiologist. I felt completely at ease. The whole department was clean and welcoming. My appointment with the consultant was on time and he explained everything well and he was very kind. Everything was handled smoothly and professionally.

  4. Review titled Absolutely brilliant service

Rated 5 stars out of 5

by Rachel Parrott - Posted on 30 December 2023

Now, I know recently in the news the NHS has had some stick, but being a front line worker myself I feel I need to give credit when it’s due as I know all front line workers don’t always get recognition and just see it as ‘doing their job’ Last night, my dad had a fall and due to his weight we were unable to pick him up. He also seemed some what delirious. We had to call 999 for an ambulance. I know Friday nights can be particularly busy for the Ambulance service but we had an ambulance with us within the hour. Firstly, I can’t describe the service we received from the ambulance crew other than brilliant. I have never had paramedics that have been as compassionate, understanding, knowledgeable and kind as they both were. Along with treating my dad with the up most respect and in a timely manner to get the care he needed. I feel awful for not taking her name, but I think my dad took a shine to the female paramedic (or technician). I believe this was bought on by her in depth understanding and compassion of addiction and not making my dad feel ashamed in the slightest. They also got on, as her sense of humour was similar to my dad’s. She also ensured I knew everything that was happening and that I was also ok. I can’t thank her enough for ‘just doing her job’ , but the diffidence she made to the entire experience was outstanding. Next, my dad got transferred to green resus on arrival to hospital. Of note, a male nurse took care of my dad. His people skills were also brilliant. Nothing was ever to much for him, with humour along the way to make the experience not as daunting. Lastly, in the same department, the doctor who was treating my dad was the best doctor I have ever come across in the times I or any family member have needed to visit hospital. His complete wealth of knowledge on the side affects of long use of alcohol and his non judgmental persona were brilliant. Not once, did my dad or I feel ashamed for discussing this with him. He explained everything in such depth and no question was a problem. He carried out every check possible and kept me well informed along the way. He also discussed care for my father and how we could go about this. Of late, I have felt stuck and with little knowledge on processes this seemed daunting until I spoke to this doctor. Not only did my dad feel comfortable and cared for, but he came out of hospital realising something needed to change and in my 26 years I have never heard him say anything close to that. I truly believe this is all down to the care of these members of staff. I would really appreciate if this could be passed on to the 3 members of staff mentioned about above, along with a huge thankyou. I am aware I didn’t ask for a single name in which I feel awful. But I know from my job, this can sometimes be figured out. This occurred from when the ambulance arrived approx 1130 hours, father’s name R Parrott arrived in resus approx 1230 hours. Thanks again

  5. Review titled 'Great practice'

Rated 5 stars out of 5

by Rachelle Swan - Posted on 17 December 2023

I was admitted to Kettering Hospital after I slipped on ice after my works Christmas party. From the ambulance to discharge I received Outstanding care. The ambulance crew were amazing, giving me plenty of entinox and reassurance. In Accident and Emergency, I was again treated with the most amazing care, care that was above and beyond any words can describe. When I was told I had fractured my left neck of femur, I was mortified at the inevitable loss of work. This was met with reassurance and kindness and that thing will be alright. I had the trauma nurse come and gave me block in my hip to relieve the pain, we talked about everything except the needles she was using to perform this, this did alleviate pain immediately as she had promised. The lovely consultant came to see me and explained that given my age of 54, being very active, working and driving a total hip replacement was my best option. He was very thorough with his explanation, expessing and reassuring I could be almost back to baseline within six weeks. When I went to theatres I was a bag of nerves about having an anaesthetic. This again was met with much reassurance from an extremely kind anastetist. One of the surgeon's performing the surgery and a nurse thoroughly explained my operation prior theatre, ensuring I knew exactly what operation was being performed. I woke up in recovery again to just kindness and reassurance, I was in pain and very anxious, both symptoms were quickly eliviated. I was then transferred to Barnwell C ward, where I stayed for another three nights. I cannot express again the kindness of the doctors, nurses, and lovely Health care assistants. The care was amazing. Discharge was tricky as it always is and I was full of fear going home on a zimmer frame!! My anxiety did change my personality and how grateful I was unfortunately. At home I received a visit from the occupational therapist and physiotherapist and I was introduced to crutches. Now two weeks later I am walking around with one crutch, progressing everyday. I had a ton of annual leave to take, so just as I was reassured in Accident and Emergency by the nurses, financially things are going to be alright. I am delighted with my progress and even thinking of doing a couple of hours at work this week. I am so grateful we have our National Health Service, you realise how much it is there when we really need it. Thank you to Kettering General Hospital and the lovely wonderful staff.

  9. Review titled cardiac investigation

Rated 5 stars out of 5

    by Jo07 - Posted on 10 November 2023

I visited the cardiac investigation department today with my two year old child who required an echocardiogram. I was apprehensive about how the appointment would go with such a young child. My fears were instantly elevated by everyone that we encountered and in particular the sonographer. She was superb. She was gentle, friendly and warm and both myself and my little one felt at ease. She was incredibly skilled and knowledgeable and turned a potentially frightening and stressful experience in to a positive one. Thank you.

I brought my wife via St Luke's, Harborough to Kettering A&E on advice from 111. We arrived at 5.30 on 27th, and are still waiting at 12.30 on 28th! I appreciate we are treated by priority but we have no way of knowing how long will still have to wait, and nobody in charge! Crazy!
