  1. Review titled Amazing Maternity Team

Rated 5 stars out of 5

by Anonymous - Posted on 21 November 2023

Right from the start of my pregnancy, where I struggled with two hospital stays due to Hyperemesis, all the way to the end, where I had to attend almost daily for extra monitoring. The entire Maternity team were beyond exceptional. From the midwives, to the support workers and the doctors. Every single person we came in to contact with were amazing and the care they gave was second to none. Their compassion honestly got me through 9 months of pure anxiety and various difficulties and I’m beyond grateful. How they looked after me and baby, this has allowed me to look back at a difficult pregnancy and feel happy and blessed.

  2. Review titled Thank you everyone it was such a good experience.

by carer mum - Posted on 20 October 2023

Brought a lady to gynae clinic this morning and wanted to thank every one of the staff because she is immunosuppressed. She is in a wheelchair due to long covid & suffers from severe anxiety. We asked if there was somewhere quiet to wait and were immediately taken to a small room to wait. Within a few minutes we were escorted to see the nurse specialist, examined and everything explained. It was such an efficient and friendly atmosphere which helped tremendously. Thank you everyone it was such a good experience. [Very happy with 'Staff attitude'] [Very happy with 'Team work'] [Very happy with 'Staff skills']

  3. Review titled Cancellation of appointments

    by Baghera74 - Posted on 27 October 2023

I recently had an orthopaedic appointment cancelled due to the doctors' strike, and the appointment was re-booked. I travelled around 8/9 mile on 2 buses for the new appointment, bearing in mind that I have had anxiety when on buses. I booked in for my appointment on the self book machine and was told where to wait. After waiting 20 minutes I received a phone call from the hospital orthopaedic department telling me my appointment had been cancelled due to the doctor not turning up. I was very angry. I have carpal tunnels d arthritis in both hands and the function in both hands is very limited at the moment. It’s taken me years for my own GP to actually acknowledge that I have these problems. To now have both appointments cancelled. They sent me a new appointment for February. This appointment they won’t change to a sooner one and I am scared that this one will be cancelled too and I’ll be left with nothing. I do suffer with bipolar 1-mixed states and emotionally unstable personality disorder and am very much depressed

  4. Review titled Great care

Rated 5 stars out of 5

by Heidi - Posted on 22 September 2023

I have just left the hospital after having a c section and I just wanted to leave feedback for all staff across all maternity services. From the consultant, to Antental assessment unit, to the theatre team. I had a very traumatic birth with my first baby and my concerns were listened to and the care I received was fantastic. The midwifery team on m1 and m2 and in anau were brilliant. Every midwife/support worker/hca I came into contact with were so lovely and explained everything. They are really worth their weight in gold and really do not get enough credit for the job they all do. They are compassionate, caring, understanding and very very hard working. You feel like a person not just a number. Thank you to all who do such an amazing job

  5. Review titled Appalling Customer Service on Arrival

Rated 2 stars out of 5

by Anonymous - Posted on 05 September 2023

Having called 111 and had a call back from the Urgent Treatment Centre to arrange an appointment time, I arrived at the hospital unsure where to go. I quickly saw a member of staff in a&e helping people queue at reception. I approached and explained I was unsure where to go and that my daughter had an appointment at the Urgent Treatment Centre. The staff member was immediately extremely rude and told me I didn’t have an appointment and I would have to wait in a&e. I stated that I’d spoken with someone over the phone who gave me a time to attend. I was told that I was wrong, it was not an appointment, it was a time slot, I don’t have priority and would have to wait like everyone else. I was confused, stressed and worried about my daughter so I thought maybe I was wrong and just accepted what the staff member said. I then attempted to explain that my daughter was in the car and I was worried about how I was going to bring her in and were we could wait as she had recently had a lumber puncture, she was unable to raise her head without extreme pain, being sick and going faint and I asked if there was anywhere we could wait that she could lay down. The staff member pointed at the seats in the crowed waiting room and said ‘she will have to wait there just like everyone else’ . At this point I was embarrassed with how I was being spoken too for everyone to hear and also very angry about the lack of care or compassion. As I returned to the car to get my daughter I saw another member of staff outside and I asked where the urgent treatment centre was and she pointed me in the right direction so I grabbed a wheel chair and took my daughter straight there. As I arrived the receptionist confirmed we had infect got an appointment there as I had thought. I was quite upset as I booked my daughter in, after the way I had just been treated in a&e but the staff at the Urgent treatment Centre were absolutely amazing from the moment we arrived . The receptionist made sure my daughter was okay due to being able to visibly see she was very unwell and in pain, we was reassured that if she were to get any worse then to just let them know. Eventually it got to much for her to sit in the seating area and they quickly found her a bed to wait. We waited along time to be seen, 2 hours passed our appointment time but that wasn’t an issue at all, we wasn’t asking for priority , we was simply asking for my daughter to be comfortable during our wait. The member of staff at a&e truly should be ashamed, displaying such lack of care and compassion. When someone attends a&e, usually they are unwell and possibly very scared. My daughter is very unwell and staff members like this make the whole experience so much worse.

  6. Review titled Maternity

Rated 4 stars out of 5

by Robyn - Posted on 13 October 2023

I was hospital overall for overall 5 days whilst having my son. I was sent in for induction. The induction process was not pleasant. Although some of Hca and midwife’s we’re lovely there was some not so much or they didn’t believe how much pain you were in. Whilst I staying on the ward a young girl was in labour and ended up being rushed to l&d they kept telling her nothing was happening! When I eventually got up to l&d myself the midwife’s there were lovely but I was in labour for 22 hours, I felt like no one considered my birth plan I wanted to try aromatherapy and lights dimmed that wasn’t offered (I was in too much pain and tired to even discuss this at the time) I had to have the hormone drip which kept getting switched on and off due to having bad reactions. And I was servilely dehydrated. (My wee was almost black) It took the last midwife to mention that the previous one should of noticed and gave me more fluids via IV. after 3 different midwife’s looking after me, eventually I was asked if I would like a section due to my son being too sleepy and labour being too long. In the section something ended up landing on my face from above and no one apologised and in recovery but wasn’t offered skin to skin which broke my heart as I really wanted that and to try breastfeeding. When i moved onto m1-m2 Ward I felt just plonked there, me and my partner didn’t have a clue what to do next. No one came to offer support for breast feeding or still skin to skin. (even through they a big on it) so only thing I felt like I could do was then start to bottle feed so husband could do it as I couldn’t move. No one removed the cannula tubes or emptied my catheter until asked. When they came to remove all that and get you to move around I was in absolute agony and couldn’t stand I felt like no one believed me. Even one midwife or Hca not sure but was very rude to my partner for trying to help me on the bed she just watched instead of helping and pretty much shouted at him for ‘doing it wrong’. I felt very upset and judged for how I felt. No one advised me on what to do for a c section recovery as such and what to expect. I believe the overall induction process and then until leaving has left me with some post natal depression and interfered with the initial bonding with my new baby. I know some of the experience is no fault of anyone and is unfortunately just birth but overall I felt like my feelings and wants were disregarded and I didn’t matter. The maternity ward after felt like they just wanted you gone. After major surgery and being in there for 5 days I was sent home with no pain relief and was back home just over 24 hours after. Just frustrating as other women who have had similar experience to myself did get skin to skin and were able to try breastfeeding so I feel like it just depends on the midwife on the day? Overall I feel my experience wasn’t anything to be desired and left me struggling mentally.

  7. Review titled Excellent experience

    by statusys79 - Posted on 13 July 2023

I had a gastroscopy recently in the Endoscopy department at Doncaster Royal Infirmary. I was quite nervous, but had done a lot of research and watching videos of the procedure to prepare myself. The staff were so brilliant at putting me at ease and finding common ground. Jacki saw me for my pre-assessment and was a ray of sunshine. After this I was taken to the pre-op (I think) room by another member of staff whose name I can't remember, and then met by the consultant who was also helpful and reassuring. Though uncomfortable, the procedure went fine with just the numbing mouth spray (you have the option of sedation) and all the staff helped in directing me on what to do in terms of when to swallow, when to take a deep breath etc. Even down to receiving my report after the procedure, the member of staff was upbeat and smiley. From start to finish the whole team were amazing and put me totally at ease - I wouldn't feel as nervous for a future gastroscopy within this department. Thank you everyone!

Fabulous care by the A&E team and Acute Medial team over the last 24 hours, numerous bloods, X-rays, ECG, CT scan, IV meds, fluids, and ongoing referral, all in such a short time, delivered by the most kind, caring compassionate staff, all during the busiest couple of days, thank you.

  9. Review titled Fantastic practice, Fantastic service

Rated 5 stars out of 5

by Leanne - Posted on 06 July 2023

Over a period of 4 weeks my daughter was in and out of hospital visiting Maternity triage, a weeks stay on m1 and then an arranged c-section. The consistent level of care we received was outstanding, from all the health care team, cleaners, midwifes, Doctors, surgeon’s and their team and reception staff. Everything was explained thoroughly to us every step of the way what was going to happen and what we were to expect. The anaesthetist even took photos for us in theatre after baby was born. The aftercare and services they provide to new mum’s is fantastic using videos, PowerPoints and face to face demonstrations. The hospital is thoroughly cleaned throughout the day the cleaners never stop, i cannot praise the hospital and staff enough they have all done Doncaster women's hospital proud. Thank you very much for looking after my daughter, caring for her and safely delivering my first grandchild. Feel very thankful that we are lucky to have our nhs and feel proud of all the staff who dedicate themselves to care for others, you are all amazing!
