Review titled Frustrating
Rated 1 star out of 5
by Anonymous - Posted on 07 May 2024
Supposed to attend my appointment at colorectal Surgery outpatient department at 10:50 and I received a call at 10:00 o'clock that the clinician is filling unwell. They told me the same thing on the previous appointment that cancelled as well. I try to get my appointment for a few months now unsuccessful and on the letter that I received says it will cost £100 to the NHS if missed the appointment. What about me that I travel back home and needed to apply for unpaid authorised absence from my employer for this day? This is more than a frustrating situation.

I received exceptional care from the lovely nurses on the Lancaster Suite again. Together they tried their best to put me at ease during an uncomfortable colposcopy and procedure. I can’t praise their professionalism and care enough. I was given a thorough explanation throughout and treated with utmost respect. Thank you.

Review titled Fantastic treatment
Rated 5 stars out of 5
by Lynne King - Posted on 03 June 2024
I was taken by amublance on 17/5/24 to Derriford after a fall in bathroom, knocked myself out and slight concussion. The treatment and attitude of staff was amazing. I was shown so much respect even though the department (E/D) was full. The Dr. was wonderful, kind and attentive. Considering the overwhelming pressure everyone was under, my care could not be doubted and my heartfelt thank you to everyone who cared for me, during a rather frightening time. One suggestion I have if I may, give the Drs. what they work hard for. Let the Government put the money where it should go, saving lives is important and Drs. are at the very front of every situation that they are confronted by. Well done E/D, you have my gratitude, respect and always in my prayers.

Went in to have my machine repaired only to be told straight away my machine was fine And I had the wrong size mask! Rather matter of factly ( which I need and prefer)! Readjusted the headgear to the correct size mask and now I have slept with no leakage ( and a green smiley face to greet me in the morning) for every night since being proffecionaly put in my place! I feel amazing compared to my defining sleep nights now! Thank you thank you thank you!

Review titled The worst wait of all places I've lived in UK
Rated 1 star out of 5
by Anonymous - Posted on 07 April 2024
It doesn't matter in how much agonising pain you are, they will leave you waiting. You only see nurses and care assistants running around and barely any doctors. I cam yesterday with excruciating pain and the doctor told me to keep paracetamol and ibuprofen even though I told him I wasn't coping with the pain, and needed more as paracetamol and ibuprofen were not giving me any relief. Dr said that the antibiotics would be enough, but it wasn't. After another night with no sleep and pure pain, I came back today. Arrived here at 6.30 am. In tears due to the pain. It is now 10 am and I have not seem the Dr yet. Ppl who were here before I arrived, have not seen the Drs. This is absolutely inhumane and disgraceful for a first world country. I've lived at different towns and cities in the UK, and never experienced this level of complete disregard to patient care. How do they make ppl wait in pain for hours and hours is beyond believe. You can see that no one cares, not even in thr slightest. Plymouth has been very disappointing in the health care department, very very bad!

Thank you for your website comment in which you outlined concerns regarding the care and treatment you received at the Emergency Department, Derriford Hospital. I am always disappointed to read negative comments as it means we may have let a patient down in some way. I can only apologise for the length of time you waited in the Emergency Department before being seen by a clinical member of staff. You may have seen in the national and local media that we are experiencing unprecedented demand in both the community and our hospitals. The area of the Emergency Department that you were waiting in is particularly overwhelmed by the volume of patients attending. I can assure you that our staff are hardworking and take patient care seriously, we as a team are constantly advocating the best for our patients but we are limited of what we can do with a system under unrelenting pressure. I apologise that our care fell short of the standard we accept in this case. I am truly sorry you have had a negative experience and have had cause to complain. Please do not hesitate to contact me in writing or by email at plh-tr.Complaints-PatientServices@nhs.net Thank you Jayde Fletcher Emergency Services Manager

Husband was admitted from Cornwall and he was so well looked after on the Erme ward. Team were very accommodating and the lady doctor will leave a lasting impression of empathy and care not just with the patient but with the family, every time she did her rounds she greeted me by my first name , how she remembers with all the patients she sees every day was wonderful and always included me in the conversation when discussing my husband care . Wonderful team working under such difficult times . Thankyou

Thank you for your kind and thoughtful words, all of the staff work really hard to be caring and compassionate with patients, relatives, carers and staff alike whilst working in a really busy ward environment. We are so pleased that you were looked after, that you and your husband were involved in the conversations about his care and management. Your message will be passed on the teams on Erme. We completely agree they are a wonderful team and it is a privilege to work with them. Wishing your husband a continuing speedy recovery. All the best Mrs Rachael Buller, Service Line Cluster Manager, Mrs S Pickbourne, Matron, Neurosurgery

Review titled Chaos
Rated 1 star out of 5
by Penny Bailey - Posted on 19 April 2024
My husband was admitted to Derriford with severe chest pains. He was informed that a ct scan was needed for his treatment to progress. 8 days later he was still waiting! The whole hospital is in crisis, chaotic and a shambles. The staff are doing their best but it's not enough. Having been told on the morning of the 8th day, and prepped for a CT scan, nothing happened. The Ward Sister tried phoning the department coordinator, only to find she had left work at 4pm. Leaving many patients in the lurch. If you have a Choice as to which hospital you, or your friends/family are admitted to, don't choose Derrford

In under 2 hours I received an X-ray of my hips, a consultation with a Fellow with a future plan of action and an injection under ultrasound. I was very impressed with the professionalism, skill and caring attitude of all the staff concerned and would like to especially mention the radiologist and the nurse. Thank you to you all.

Review titled Appointment at Rowan House
Rated 4 stars out of 5
by Anonymous - Posted on 27 April 2024
On Monday 25th April 2024, I attended Rowan House for removal of a small lesion on my right ear, I previously had what I was told was a biopsy, however after several phone calls to check it was needed I was told definitely yes it was. Imagine my amazement when I went in for what I thought was a minor op, only to be told on reading my notes it was not necessary for any treatment, I am 85 had arranged for someone to drive me the 50 mile round trip, a total waste of my time, and staff time at Rowan house, probably depriving another patient an appointment.

Thank you for raising your concern through the Trust website. I am sorry to read you feel you had a wasted journey to the hospital for removal of a lesion that you had been listed to have surgery for. It appears, unknown to the Dermatology team, that another department had removed the lesion but had not made the dermatology team aware. Whilst you feel you had a wasted journey the dermatology team had to review you to ensure the correct lesion had been satisfactorily removed. Kind regards Karen Attis Cluster Group Facilitator for Plastic Surgery and Dermatology

Review titled Excellent Care

Admitted to A&E Majors with C-Diff & Campylobacter (very serious due to medical history & previous surgeries) and the staff were fantastic. Was there for 24 hours. Moved to Tavy Ward and was not a great experience there. I was in insolation (was placed in a room that was obviously used as a storage unit, the lamp did not work & only the main light did, which was awful when they turned it on in the middle of the night to check my obs every few hours and contained 3 broken chairs) and very unwell and found the staff on Tavy not very approachable and was made to feel as if I was an inconvenience (always seem to find this on Naval wards). Was not even offered food even though I was there for 36 hours and was allowed to eat. Moved again to Norfolk ward (was there for 4 days) and what a difference! Staff were fantastic, very approachable and attentive (was still in insolation). Every member of staff I encountered in A&E Majors & Norfolk (Cleaners, Domestics, Doctors, Volunteers, Pharmacists, Nurses and HCA's) were cheerful, friendly, courteous and could not do enough for me.

It is very much appreciated. Jayde Fletcher Emergency Services Manager I am sorry to read about your experience on Tavy and wish to extend our sincere apologies for the experience you received. I can only assume you were isolated in one of our patient cubicles as we do not use a storage unit as a bed space for patients. On reviewing the three cubicles following this feedback, I have requested for the bedside lamp in one of the cubicles to be repaired. We have also recently replaced several of our visitor chairs as we were aware that some were no longer fit for purpose. Thank you for sharing your experience with us and for highlighting areas of improvement on Tavy, it is not the standard of care that we aim to provide for our patients. I will share this feedback with our nursing and hotel services team to learn and improve from this moving forwards. Kind Regards Alex Alex Williams | Senior Sister | Ward Manager MAU Tavy Thank you very much for the kind feedback you have given our staff on Norfolk Ward. We always try to provide the best care possible and I am pleased to hear that we were able to provide a good service for you. Kind regards Pete Martucci Ward Manager - Norfolk Ward
